Thanks for this. I saw this a few weeks ago, and I applied some of this video in my own pair of sticks for an MVS. There is a lot to learn about DIY arcade sticks that you are showing, that you may not realize. A month ago I didn't know squat about arcade sticks. I learned enough from watching this to build my own. I learned a bit more by doing it. Thanks.
I just did a similar thing. One warning, the extension cable I got didn't fit into the db15 breakout properly. It was too deep and my db15 couldn't reach the pins and just fell straight out. So I used a Dremel and shaved down almost 1cm of plastic from the extension plug and now it fits perfectly :)
Ron, I will definitely be doing a version of this myself. I recently procured an AES that came with only one controller. And, you're right man, they're out of sight online. I think this will be the cheapest route to having a second controller. Plus I solder too, so I'll probably be going with that instead of the screw down type. Good Job MLP!
Allen Mitchell Nice! I know this isnt going to be a popular video lol because its for such a niche audience but I still wanted to do it as I think the simple way of wiring your own Neo Geo controller isn't exactly widely know.... Or not that it so easy is widely understood. Hopefully this helps some people out! Appreciate ya watching and commenting!
Well, I believe you that some of this information is not widely known from an NES controller I was trying to add a new cable to. The replacement cable I bought had different colored wiring from the original and I played heck trying to figure out what went where. I ended up checking the new cable with a multimeter for continuity. Long story short a lot of this info you'd assume is out there may not be. that's what makes work like this so important man.
Amazing! I bet I could map out my other classic consoles to arcade controllers. The neat thing about the NeoGeo is you can select level difficulty whereas the MAME versions of the games is stuck on coin draining difficulty.
Im gonna smash one of those in a few months...but I like the 6 buttons ones though; Im street fighter since 91...I might get one of those DIY kits to make my arcade stick
Thanks guys~ We will do the tutorial for sure, but it won't be for maybe a couple weeks. Lol need to take a break from all the Neo Geo stuff for a moment haha!
So how did you mount the breakout DB15 to the side of the control panel? I pretty much came to the same solution as you did for a project like this but since I haven't gotten the connectors in my hands yet I'm not sure what the best, nicest looking way to mount them will be.
Hey MLP i have a serious question for you about retropie, that i cant seem to find a tutorial on or any info on it on the web.. but see it commonly in the retropie community... How would u go about making Separate game folders for your roms in the main menu? or a separate custom category you could say.. thanks man love your vids.. keep on keeping on brother!
There are a couple different things you could do. But its very difficult to exactly explain in a comment. The first and easiest way is to make sub folders within the system itsself. But then youd just have extra folders in that system. Another way is to edit your theme and create new themes for wheel art etc for the custom creation. That can take work and can be difficult if you havent done so before. Another way is to simply use custom collections or create your own collection on a theme that supports custom collections. This may be a topic I do a closer look at when I have time.
Liteup X please clarify, because cbox says that it will only work with original saturn controllers. By nothing to write home about, are u talking about the performance of the controller or the port not working will. Cause my cbox got delayed cause they had to redo all the saturn ports cause of a error in the wiring
Gaming in still Life I’m talking about the performance of using the Saturn controllers. It didn’t feel right. Especially when playing a fighting game, special moves were hard to pull off. I can’t speak on the Saturn rgb port as I didn’t try it.
All,y bottoms is working... but my joystick is not working.. I am using seimitsu parts... do you have any ideia if the cables in the joystick is diferente? The order? I just get one input the left ....
I know the cables is reverse on the seimitsu.. the orange is the ground .... but why I don’t get other imputs ... only the left.... I’m am going crazy with this project...

jgfjgfify that's the whole idea, that it looks like you ripped it off a real neo geo cabinet. But a Pandora's box is pretty much the same size...

I've just ordered this design and all the buttons and bits to build it myself. I can't wait.

I want one of these so bad. Y'all really nailed it with this one MLP & GRS
DJ K Thanks a ton! GRS has been awesome. Maybe some other new surprises from them in the future~ we will just have to wait and see :P
I need something like this for my Wii since that's what I mostly play Neo-Geo games on.
Im gonna smash one of those in a few months...but I like the 6 buttons ones though; Im street fighter since 91...I might get one of those DIY kits to make my arcade stick
This is one badass setup bro! Boom!
Liteup X Hell yeah! Thanks man!
Nice tutorial. I'm looking forward to the dual purpose video.
Joel Kolb likewise here. I would want to use for more than just an AES.
Thanks guys~ We will do the tutorial for sure, but it won't be for maybe a couple weeks. Lol need to take a break from all the Neo Geo stuff for a moment haha!
Madlittlepixel Awwwe...This will be worse than a Flash Gordon cliffhanger (:P,
Can’t wait.
Does anyone have an actual schematic for a Neo Geo AES controller they'd be willing to share?
Did the manufacturer of the panel create the art for it too?
So how did you mount the breakout DB15 to the side of the control panel? I pretty much came to the same solution as you did for a project like this but since I haven't gotten the connectors in my hands yet I'm not sure what the best, nicest looking way to mount them will be.
Those Sanwa push buttons, are those 24mm or 30mm? Love what you've done here and making it relatively easy for us.
They'll most likely be 30mm
Would this process work with any empty enclosure?

Can you provide the Neo Geo photoshop art?
Thanks. Good video.
Great vid man, I will be doing this as soon as my cbox comes in. Have you had any issues with using third party saturn controllers with the cbox
Gaming in still Life In all honesty I didnt try any Saturn controllers on it, only used the SNK ports.
Gaming in still Life I tried SS controllers on a Cbox, they work but nothing to write home about.
Liteup X please clarify, because cbox says that it will only work with original saturn controllers. Liteup X ok, maybe that's why he wanted time to make better as he says
I’ve got a question for you - with this setup using the db15 - is there a way to inset coins when running the MVS? Thanks Ron!
Select button is the coin button
@@CuccoMagic That has not worked for me. It looks like the coin button is slot 2 on the DB15 (not used in the above video).
What if I'm trying to play a 6 button game like a cps2 game like marvel vs capcom
Then you dont build a stick made for Neo Geo.....
@@Madlittlepixel yeah I know that I thought id ask for an alternative..
@@jdestroyer9721 they sell the same panel in different layouts. 6 button etc.

I have Input on A B C D Start Select and right ...
How long did it take them to make and send the kit to you?
Is it going to work on a NEO GEO CD console?
Yep
