I do the same thing when I take my goggles off....look around and scope out my surroundings. I always thought the T-5143 were really peppy and responsive at low throttle on my samguk 2600kv 4s flosstyle. They're so fragile though I'd like to find a replacement.
Thank you so much for all this info.... the Johnny 5 “ prop, would it be ok to use with my 2306/2450kv set up? Rubbing 4/5s on the 5” armattan rooster?
One reason why I use the ethix props is because I know that the people who fly them stick with them. They may not offer the most power but they are perfect for smooth solid flights and are very efficient.
The biggest point of the S3 prop is the response. I've literally felt nothing else as responsive in the 5" prop size. Unfortunately speed and efficiency suffer quite a bit on them however. Really low efficiency compared to so many others.
What would you choose for a light 2205.5 2522kv 4s setup with a smaller battery. AUW is 350g. For racing. I'd like a good balance of speed, handling and efficiency. Tried cyclone 5051 and HQ 5x4.3x3 and DAL was quite good but lacked power and durability.
Definitely absolutely without a doubt this gemfan prop. However, I wouldn't recommend anything less than 2207 for a 5" anymore. I realize your quad is probably a bit older. Moving forward, 2207 and 2306 are the smallest I've found to give really good 5" performance regardless of AUW or anything else.
I have something that sounds really close to that. It'll be hard to beat the GF5149 for going fast, and that HQ is up there in terms of performance. If you can tolerate the same durability as the T5051's, the TMotor 5143's are really good, as are the Ethix S3's. Otherwise, if you need really durable stuff, I run all mine on T5046C V2 Cyclones. They're the universal B student, but for an all around setup that's amazing
I haven't tried F1. The carbon resin material is still there it's just really expensive so it's not very popular. It's definitely my favorite material however.

On the 4 blades props. I've tried some today. They're so quiet. Incredible!🙌 However I was getting more prop washes. Any tip on the filtering or on the PIDs to do to remove these prop washes I usually don't have with tri-blades props? Thank you
Hi Kabab, those props look fantastic, even looking up close at the prop they look high quality. I'm sitting here going damn I just finished a 3" build lol. What would you recommend for 3" props of an equivalent quality in you opinion? I have been using avan flow 3" props. Good thrust but I think they might be giving some of those robotic flight feel characteristics you just described. Great video as always. Peace.
Looks like you've found a nice location to fly + test! Thanks for sharing all your thoughts on these props. So long as there is no jello, I'll take the extra minute flight time of the GF5146.6. BTW nice "Zero Emissions" number plates too :)
What props do you recommend for 6s 2207 1900kv fast flying? Currently I’m running Cyclone T5045C 3Blades on everything. They are okay but there are probably better options.
The gemfan prop in this video may be the best option but would be maybe excessive power. The reason why I'd say it's a good option is because it's going to hold up better at high RPM than something like the S3 or T5143 prop. What you'd really want is a shallow pitch prop that doesn't deflect too much at high RPM. The trouble is that a prop like that doesn't exist. Your best option is probably to use whatever prop you like and just limit your max throttle to maybe 75 or 80 so your battery doesn't die.
R Morgan yea I also realized that 2 blades work pretty well for this setup. Higher top speed and maybe a little bit better efficiency. My problem was that the copter gets a little bit unstable in low throttle acro moves.
I did a video on it a loong time ago. I like it out because it keeps crap off the fpv lens. There are supposed to be other benefits too but I can't tell in flight
KababFPV thx for the quick reply that’s what I was wondering I understand the part about keeping grass etc off the lens but flight wise I can say I notice a different feel either..

There is nothing that can even begin to touch the S3 prop with respect to response. Maybe the T5143. The closest would be the original glass nylon 5x4x3

Amazing flying, Bob! Really fantastic! 😃 Next time take one of those FPV watches with you and let the security guys watch you flying. And, who knows... Maybe next time they let you fly a little longer. 😉
I really like the HQ quad blade on my 2204 lightweight racer. I used to run the old dal quad blades but these are so much more durable. And do you also have a slight resonance on those different prototype props. I can hear it but not feel it at least if those props are what it think they are.
@@Kabab I run tem on 2206 2450kv 4s. I and other people I fly with have certainly heard something at a certain throttle setting. I did swap props to confirm it's not my frame. But al HQ pros look so similar so it could be a different prop.
I thought the shaky sticks was just a greenhorn thing, I'm surprised to hear that from such an amazing pilot as yourself. I loved the video super informative as always. I tried these props and my kwad seemed to bobble more with just casual straight flying, perhaps my auw is more than what these are designed for. I'm sitting around 720grams with a runcam3s and 5s battery.
The general bobbles are likely caused by betaflight if you're running betaflight. Try running Emuflight. It's a fork of betaflight with different filters. Tends to perform better with less effort
@@Kabab awesome advice I'm going to try that today. Thank you so much. P.S. great work with fpv cycle, very impressed you find the time for full time orthodontics and what it takes to start and operate and design everything you create.

Steve B he doesn’t like reviewing Flight One, but now that the lawsuit is over and Flight One won the suit maybe he will start reviewing them. It’s kind of hard to not discuss their hardware in the world of FPV now...
I think you meant to respond to the other guy above lol. But F1 didn't win the lawsuit. Apparently Helio actually won but we don't really know because it's not public. What we do know is that F1 is still around now and Helio is dying out. If F1 decides to pickup support for the Helio boards as I expect them to, I may consider giving it a try because of the good will they will have developed with the community.
Really looking forward to trying those 5146 gemfans but you've cooled me off a bit since you've got me running 22xx exclusively. I really want a good responsive prop with a bit more speed than the 5143, can't get on with any HQs and gemfans always seem really solid to me.
Thx for sharing these thoughts Bob! Whats your recommended prop for freestyle w/2207 2600kv motors? Sticking with HQ 5x4.3x3. c Came from DAL. Significant improvement!
Whew! A couple times there I thought you were a goner. Especially on new props. My "bottom" feel often takes a couple packs to dial in & new props are the perfect time to execute that "epic cartwheel into oblivion" ;) :P
Kabab my bro, I hope you read this since its a late comment, no one talks about the 4 inch props since they are so unused by the major drone manufacturers. and some of us who need 4 inch props for our special drones are left out to dry, DALPROP sold almost all of their 4inch cyclone looking 4045 v2s, we are left with slow bullnose props what are garbage, or with low 4040s. DALprop sales ppl tell me its unprofitable to make them, and I would need to order 500 batch of them to make them available in the future...
Unfortunately 4" just isn't popular. It's too big to actually make a small quad and too small to get the power and efficiency we want. Also, the gemfan 4x4.3x3 v1s is still the best 4" prop imo. It pretty much does everything perfectly. If there was an overall prop award I'd give it to that prop even though few fly 4". There's literally not a thing it does poorly. Fast, responsive, efficient, durable, great throttle curve. Give it a try.
The props I like most currently are the Gemfan 5146.6 and Tmotor 5143. The S3, Johnny, HQ 4.8x3.4x4 come in tier two of the props I like. All for various reasons...
On 5" you're dead right about 3 vs 4 blade speed and control -- but ... when I'm flying 2.5" and 2-blades (10kv, 1103) it's fast and with crazy amounts of control and agility. If I try a 4-blade prop I get a bit more quick thrust, less speed, but the difference isn't as noticeable as 5" -- I guess what I'm saying is that number of blades is just one factor -- and now I'm curious of the difference between a 5" 3-blade at 2000kv vs 4-blade at 1500kv. Just thinking out loud -- sorry for that :) I also want to 4-blade prop with *slender* blades --- not just another fat blade tacked on.
I know u probs cba with prop vids nut could u do a vid where u talk about classic props that people still use and how relevant they are in 2019 such as the cyclone 5046 and hq 5x4.3x3 as these are most likely the most popular props ever made
I think I know why that prop is so smooth and inefficient. The blades can flex up and down while flying so it adds like a suspension effect but also decreases efficiency
So if the prop market is getting so competitive how come they aren't getting cheaper anymore? I started out flying king kongs and they were perfectly acceptable for the motors I was running back then. Where are the decent budget props with a modern pitch and profile?
Well there was something liberating about flying cheap props. I would just automatically change them after the slightest nick. Now after a crash I find myself bending them back or I build up a collection of b grade props and every now and then I have a balancing session. Good props are really only good props until you trash them.
Is it just a park, or a national park? AFAIK, the reasoning for flying in national parks being illegal isn't the people, it's the animals, the fire risk, and the risk of polution (if you lose the quad).
Props are getting ridiculous....(just like the slews of motors lol) thankfully I found 3 awesome props that works great for me (and I tried T5143 and few other before I found the ones that work for me). Thankfully I found what works for me fairly fast, and I honestly dont think someone needs anything more then these. For 5" Dalprop - T5046C HQ - V1S 5x4.3x3 For 3" Avan - 3X2.4X3 I do still use HQ3X3X3 also, but I prefer the Avan, much more cleaner and quieter too
Yeah you're doing it right. It really doesn't matter all that much. Just get used to what you like and stick with it. I just like trying lots of things but almost always go back to my one preferred prop which has changed over the time but not that often. Previously it was the T5143 but now it's the gemfan 5146.6
@@Kabab well I'm only 3 months into the hobby just built a 5" a month ago... and a friend sent 4 sets of T5143, something just felt slow (my 3" was faster lol) so I tried a few sets and my 2nd set I tried was T5046C and wow what a difference, on everything all around, I absolutely love them and see really no need for anything else (specifically these will be good for racing)... dont get me wrong T5143 are nice, but like you said in your video they are mushy and you can feel that. Just not my current style at the moment. Same with freestyle, tried a few and the HQ VS1 are nice.... I thought states and local governments were not allowed to regulate drones. Isn't that the exclusive domain of the FAA? It's illegal, or in violation of local ordinances, to fly in the city parks where I live too but once I learned they're not allowed to regulate the airspace I have considered doing it anyway when there is no one around. Of course there is the fact that just because they're not allowed to regulate drone use doesn't mean they won't still do it. I doubt my telling the officer that he is not legally allowed to write me a ticket would get him to not enforce what the mayor and city counsel tells him or her to enforce.
There really are no rules. The FAA is not allowed to write law. They only suggest. It's up to local districts to actually find a reason to write the ticket. That's as close as it gets. Nobody is certain why we're getting regulated to begin with. We haven't done anything wrong
@@Kabab The government likes to regulate everything. Especially when there is money to be made or favors to sell. We don't have to do anything wrong. We just need to be enjoying something that could potentially be misused by nut jobs, dummies or terrorists. The majority of the population is easy to scare. Show a picture of a Chilean helicopter with a hole in the windscreen and a bloody face mask and they have their public support to regulate the piss out of these dangerous things we play with. Maybe we need to mail every elected official an FPV drone and a copy of Pink Floyd's Learning To Fly?

I do the same thing when I take my goggles off....look around and scope out my surroundings. I always thought the T-5143 were really peppy and responsive at low throttle on my samguk 2600kv 4s flosstyle. They're so fragile though I'd like to find a replacement.
Thank you so much for all this info....
the Johnny 5 “ prop, would it be ok to use with my 2306/2450kv set up? Rubbing 4/5s on the 5” armattan rooster?
Is there anywhere to purchase spare parts for the Glide frame? I already broke an arm :/
@@Kabab well ok, which has better efficiency? DAL 5040? Something better please!
@@Denis_3301 the dal t5040c is a very efficient prop. Other good ones are this gemfan prop and the HQ 5.1x4.1x3
That is an epic spot!
Any news on the 2210 motors? I have a 7 inch build and i have no idea what motors to get.
I think we need esc firmware to improve because it has that annoying throttle down wobble
What happened to the corbon-something material i think Azure has?
Also: have u tried FlightOne?
I haven't tried F1. The carbon resin material is still there it's just really expensive so it's not very popular. It's definitely my favorite material however.

Peace.
I actually haven't looked into 3" too much. I don't even remember.
Love the azure 6145, now they are sold out everywhere. They also need to put out a 7inch prop.
I believe they are working on one but no actual plans with it currently
Kabab I run s4 on 4s and they feel good but my 700+g quad needs little more punch and I wanna get almost same efficiency 51466 or Johnny prop?
The johnny prop is very inefficient. The best way to get more punch is by dropping some weight on the quad.
Dang another killer review
Thanks Bob, always good info.
I think youll like the gemfan hulkies.
They're good powerful props but inefficient for me. Good for racing.
@@Kabab I fly freestyle but love the response and power they have at low and high end. I dont mind shorter flight time.
Looks like you've found a nice location to fly + test! Thanks for sharing all your thoughts on these props. So long as there is no jello, I'll take the extra minute flight time of the GF5146.6.
BTW nice "Zero Emissions" number plates too :)
I wish azure would make a popo race prop. (maybe they do and I just have missed it?) Always wanted to try one but my main rig is popo pro.
I wasn't really sold till you started bending it and showed it came in green
@@Kabab T5143 is the T-Motor prop?
@@SpikeJonesTheCr0oked yep
Gemfan 5552 or 5152 tris or bis are super fast
R Morgan yea I also realized that 2 blades work pretty well for this setup. Higher top speed and maybe a little bit better efficiency. My problem was that the copter gets a little bit unstable in low throttle acro moves.

I did a video on it a loong time ago. I like it out because it keeps crap off the fpv lens. There are supposed to be other benefits too but I can't tell in flight
KababFPV thx for the quick reply that’s what I was wondering I understand the part about keeping grass etc off the lens but flight wise I can say I notice a different feel either..
I wonder if flexible props bend when you turn due to the gyroscopic effect...
They actually do! Most notably with big x-class props

I recommend 2208 or 2306 in 1750-1800kv. Great on both 4S and 6S
I love the S3 props for the smoothness and the control I feel in tight spaces. Any recommendations for props that compare to the S3?
I fly 6s 1750kv.

There is nothing that can even begin to touch the S3 prop with respect to response. Maybe the T5143. The closest would be the original glass nylon 5x4x3

I really like the HQ quad blade on my 2204 lightweight racer. I used to run the old dal quad blades but these are so much more durable. And do you also have a slight resonance on those different prototype props. I can hear it but not feel it at least if those props are what it think they are.
I haven't noticed resonance or blade deflection on 1750kv 6S
Is the quad blade a prop you’d recommend for someone who prioritize being quiet but still don’t want to lose to much control etc? Is there another prop that is quiet but better?
Yeah it's definitely the best balance of low noise and performance
Do you prefer the Gemfan 5146.6 over the HQ 5.1x4.6x3 they seem very similar but seem slightly better in every way from what i can tell from a few of your videos. What about some 6in prop love?
Definitely. I just got the final polished version too. Oh so buttery smooth on the throttle. Just effortless.
Personal preference I love the robotic feel but great video and review
Many racers prefer that robotic look and a highly responsive stick. Pure preference
I was up in LA yesterday looking for somewhere to fly.. great spot!! I’ll try those quad props.

I’ve had good luck at the public school field in my neighborhood, as long as it’s a weekend or after hours. It’s even lighted at times with nobody around. Philadelphia Suburbs
The gemfan is your prop. It's really shockingly well rounded. They did something really really right with that one.
Can you recommend a prop for running a 2207 1800kv on 4s?
(You had done that before iirc)
The new Gemfan 5146.6 when it comes out or the Tmotor T5143. The HQ S3 prop is also good but will have the lowest efficiency of the group.
Thx for sharing these thoughts Bob! Whats your recommended prop for freestyle w/2207 2600kv motors? Sticking with HQ 5x4.3x3. c
Came from DAL. Significant improvement!
Whatever feels good to you is what I recommend. I personally like this Gemfan prop the most right now.

Got me reaching around for something to hang on to
you should do a test with a smaller frame and run it upside down and u can put bigger props on a frame made for smaller props
Please watch some of my frame videos. There is so much wonky with that sort of setup it's too much to type here. I've tested a LOT of things...
But is it a flaw with the prop when you're flying it outside of its designed parameters?
I'm flying it outside its parameters? Sure I guess it's just made to fly very very slowly. It's still inefficient at that
How do you get rid of the jello in all of your videos?
An ND filter. The one I'm using here is the one I developed which is a very dark ND16 and does great in general sunlight. It's my favorite one.
Are there more efficient props than the HQ5043?
Which h ones and no. The only prop in this video that would match the 4.3 v1s is the gemfan 5146.6
Whew! A couple times there I thought you were a goner. Especially on new props. My "bottom" feel often takes a couple packs to dial in & new props are the perfect time to execute that "epic cartwheel into oblivion" ;) :P
A side by side comparison with the Ethix S3s would be nice.
the S3 prop has extreme response. Super duper extreme response. similar poor efficiency and low speed. S3 is less durable.
@@Kabab Thank you sir, much appreciated. I'll probably buy a couple sets to try them out. I still have a bunch of cyclones I need to break first, lol.
@@Kabab Will do, tnx for the info bro.
Why do you keep getting kicked out? If you register your drone you can fly anywhere that doesn't have posted signage
My quads are less than 70g and they kick me out. You're not even allowed to fly a kite in LA
So are the T-motor props still your fav?
Just thinking out loud -- sorry for that :) I also want to 4-blade prop with *slender* blades --- not just another fat blade tacked on.
things change completely as you vary size. On the small scale everything changes as nearly all effects are exaggerated compared to a 5"
Nice proximity at 01:46 :)
These props are not out for consumers yet?..both
Supposed to be out tomorrow

3.5" diameter? Depends what you're doing but no. Not on a 5" quad
@@Kabab no, 3.5 blades 😂

So if the prop market is getting so competitive how come they aren't getting cheaper anymore? I started out flying king kongs and they were perfectly acceptable for the motors I was running back then. Where are the decent budget props with a modern pitch and profile?
Do they really need to be cheaper? It's kinda not worth it for the companies anymore if it's a lot cheaper.
Well there was something liberating about flying cheap props. I would just automatically change them after the slightest nick. Now after a crash I find myself bending them back or I build up a collection of b grade props and every now and then I have a balancing session. Good props are really only good props until you trash them.
@@mowogfpv7582 I still change at any issue. Changing is more annoying due to the prop nut than anything else. It's the time that matters more to me.

It's the same performance essentially. Will just sag the battery harder.
