Zhong (owner of HQ) confirms my conclusion that this prop is designed for racing. Specifically indoor racing. INDOOR RACING 5" QUADS???? Okay apparently it's a thing. The durability and cornering are great for tight environments and the slightly lower top end doesn't really matter because you seldom top out in doors anyway.
I was just going to say...the tight indoor tracks we race here in China are PERFECT!! for that prop!!! We need tight maneuverability and control over top speeds.
So what’s with the stubby instead of patch on goggles? I’m not finding any info. Tried it out with the menace Stubbs we got in the quadbox this month. But it’s dumping snow and I only was within a 100yd. I was in house. Too got good reception.. learn me please🤓
I just wanted to thank you for all the info and responding to your comments, you Leander me a couple thing, but Answearing my question a few weeks ago. Big thumbs up from me for the work you do for all of use. I’m a little older than most these fpv pilots and am very new to this hobbie but watch you and all your vids does make it a little easier I must say. Again thank you...
Great flying Josha. That mic on go pro is insane. Very clear sound. At 4:20 you said that you sow vibrations on googles but gopro with his insane stabilization managed to smooth that out. I like the sound of this props. Cant wait to test them on my 6s 2400kv beast mode quad.
@@JoshuaBardwell definitely should give it a shot in a different location, smaller trees bunched up together and with a bunch of obstacles. Curious to how you would feel about the props in those circumstances? Rmxg

Personally i enjoy watching you fly because there isnt music playing , you can hear you working those motors its just better!! And you can fly man i hope i can fly like you one day!! Great prop test.... Badass flying too. Joshua, what's the worst crash you've ever had at home with a quad ?? Through a window ? Into your car, or up one of those huge tree's ?? Do tell ;)
Been waiting for them to come out with some forever! Loved my dal 5040 4-blades. But HQ is my go to for props now. Can't wait to to try them out myself!!!
The HQ 4-blade V1S on a mild motor is my favorite setup. I have a QAV210 Charpu with chee pass motors and HQ 5x4s and I get spectacular freestyle performance and long battery life.
Dude that was the sickest rip I've seen you do!! You know all the sweet spots of your yard(obviously😀), but that was dope brother👊👊 Oh yeah, sweet lookin props too lol
That's some really cool crazy flying Josh. I guess you don't ever need any tree trimming. So, do you go back in the house , when its cold outside , and fly around your yard?
Great review, never considered 4 blades. Looks COLDER there than u would think it would be down south. I'm hoping the single digits are over with in Indiana.
I only recently discovered these... my favorite now. I love the control and lower throttle range. I actually get better flight times on these guys than tri blades.
I actually really liked Lumenier's 5x3.7x4 prop... it was light weight, but just barely stiff enough to not flatten out at higher rpm... was decently fast.. but mostly just felt like a quadblade without all the typical downsides of quadblades, or not quite as bad as typical. Also really like seeing 4.8" size.. I remember a year ago ranting about how did 5" become some magical number.. why not 5.1 or 4.9. I like seeing seeing other diameters being tried... well we'e had some 5.1-5.2" props but now nice to see the other side. My biggest complaint with Lumenier was really that they only made it in black. I had gotten some white prototypes but after they got bent I didn't wnat to fly all black props.
Test bench? I can make you a bad ass one. Big ass esc, wind speed meter, laser tachometer, digital scale, a pezio(for the vibes), watt meter, amp meter, volt meter, flight controller (for the black box and data log), vtx(display), SOME FOG & LASERS! It'd be all good.
I have some of those and i dont fly them cause i get high throttle osolations. Your quad is obviously tuned to them. Great flying! That move over the fence looks crazy
I was gonna say, the 4blade props definitely take corners really well compared to your normal, also saw a few oscillations in your 180s on the 3 blade props that wasn't there with the 4 blade. Good flights, but holy hell 5 inchers indoors!! WOW
I've never broken a 4 blade prop. I may bend them and take a few chunks out of them but they feel so much smoother and make the quad feel super locked in. I mostly fly racekraft 5x4x4. I also like the strix 5x4x4 their pretty much the same prop as far as I can tell.
Nice flying and great to see the differences. Ps. your garden needs some attention bro! Lol. Its like you have other interests or something these days :D :D :D
You should try doing half of your flight RAW and half with some music on it because it would be nice to see you do an edit with those beast skills you have from all the work you've been doing. And for me, it make you be able to recognize the quad performance "flow" easier with music. Great video though!
No music is important when judging a prop performance. Need to be able. To hear the prop. Look up last week's video "black coffee drive" for freestyle.
WoW!! seemed to me the 4Blade in the transitions was very clean and smooth all the way through. Then when ya got back in the throttle seemed like it was keyed in. Even in video it was like I could feel the difference.
I reckon you looked smoother n way more swing with the 4 blades .. I'd say there aimed for bigger motors that need say a 6 inch prop but want to fit them in a 5 inch frame to make the most of them... more blades give more thrust but need the extra power to be able to turn it at the same rpm ... say a 7 inch 2 blade may be the same surface as a 5 inch 4 blade but now it's smoother but same power and smaller ... would like to see them on some 2608 motors 2250kv on 6s and see what they do
Did you crop video or add a stabilizer I see your left prop now and then in the video ? If so kinda takes away from the best way to see how good or bad is a no edit correct ? Not sure why I'm asking
The motors are given power using squarewave impulses. So it can make audible sound. It's just as the same as the bootup ESC sound. Google Frequency changer. I think esc act on the same principle.
Has anyone here tried recycling broken 5" props? I don't mean dropping them in the recycling bin, but cutting them down to 3" or 4". I've got a bunch of Avan Flows which have one tip ripped off, and probably more over the coming days, just wondering if it's worth 3D printing a jig that mounts to a rotary tool to accurately trim them to a smaller diameter.
@@Timberjagi throwing broken props in the recycle bin and buying new ones will generate more demand and companies will produce more props. Instead you could just use the current props and not manufacture new props! Remember the recycling process is not 100% efficient and you still have to throw stuff away. You never went over 60 thr the last test not sure how much you did before on avg thr I would think that's a good way to see how they do also . Seemed like you where moving good with the lighter quad at around 40thr up to 40thr but maybe that's just a set up number more then a performance one. What's your opinion ? I'm not sure but wanted a opinion I'm still learning
Thanks Joshua. I bought a set of these, the F40s really make them sound sweet. Definitely drain the battery more then three blade. I didn’t have the same outcome on durability :/ .
I don't think so. On my ultralight a tri-blade is very quiet compared against a bi-blade-prop, and the bi-blade is a more low-frequent sound. I'd expect the 4-blade is a higher and smoother sound and quieter because there is less weight and less pressure on each of the blades, but the difference here was not that clear as i thought.

You can hear a difference in case of RPM. Both sound smooth. Footage looks also clean with both props.
I know this is an old video, but one of the best freestyle FPV pilots would argue that point, as he absolutely rips a 4 blade!
