Republican lawmakers want to stop or slow down EV adoption. Some examples:
    * Republican lawmakers have sought to roll back proposed fuel economy standards that favor EVs. This includes efforts to block the Biden administration's stricter emissions standards for new vehicles, arguing that these standards are unrealistic and harmful to the automotive industry
    * In September 2022, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill aimed at stopping states like California from phasing out internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
    * Senators Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Pete Ricketts (R-NE) introduced the CARS Act to counteract the Biden administration's environmental agenda. This legislation aims to prevent the implementation of proposed rules and regulations that limit consumer choice in vehicles, specifically targeting EPA's authority under the Clean Air Act
    And the list goes on.

You missed a very important point. Elon Musk is the CEO of Tesla. As such he has a fiduciary responsibility to protect the company. His involvement in politics can put my investment in Tesla at risk regardless of who wins the election. If Trump wins: 1)ALL of the incentives/regulatory requirements are at risk (and please don't tell me they don't matter when half of Teslas profits this quarter were based on regulatory credits), 2) Europe may turn against Musk as a result of Trumps withdrawal from Ukraine support, 3) China may turn against Musk as a result of s significant increase import duties. If Harris wins, well, seeing as she was an aggressive and very successful prosecutor, you can expect far more interference from the 3 letter agencies. Worse case, one fatal accident involving FSD (which already exists) and the Harris administration may deem it to dangerous to allow on the road. There could even be limits put on what SpaceX is allowed to do. His political involvement is a lose/lose situation. I was an executive with a very large IT company. I had to sign a Business Conduct document every year that stated that if anything I did, both business related or in my personal life, had a negative impact on the company, that I was subject to termination. Most people are somewhere in the middle, politically. The 10% of the far left which are hyper-woke progressives, and oppositely, the 10% who are right-wing extremists get all the attention, and Elon seems to think half the country is super progressive, so his rhetoric and responses have been equally extreme, and to such a degree, he is literally alienating half the population. Tesla has even more compelling products than Apple and Nvidia, yet those companies are dominating, and in no small part to the fact that I have no idea where Tim Cook and Jensen Huang lean politically. They have no time because they are too busy focusing on their businesses. To put it simply, they have done NOTHING to alienate half of all potential customers. Overall, Apple’s total spending on federal lobbying efforts amounted to $32.4 million from 2020 through 2023. That marked an increase from $25.9 million from the previous four-year window of 2016 through 2019. The spending, while notable by Apple’s standards, still trailed that of Meta, Amazon and Google.

Maybe you shouldn't get your moral reasoning from literal fiction written by some of the most biased people on Earth.
Allowing others to express their opinions regardless of how distasteful you find them, is also a moral responsibility. It's literally a prerequisite for a civilization and one of the few things that makes places like the US superior to places like China or North Korea.

Larry hit the nail on the head. Several times. My take is: If Elon wants to get political messages out there, then he'd benefit more by putting the resources into it to make it make sense. Short, sometimes vague posts about this or that just give one side or both the opportunity to make up their version of what he supposedly means. Put some data behind the opinions, and presumably they'll be more credible. Overall, though, the best thing to do is to pick a lane (Engineer/entrepreneur OR political messiah/windbag/call-it-what-u-want), and then focus on getting it done. Sure, the 4D chess moves might be in play here on the big picture/AI/politics/you-name-it, but in the meantime, it's making Tesla's development/expansion harder than it has to be. I believe, like Larry, the future of the company is secure, and it will return me many times my investment (actually already has, but I expect it to repeat). The sideshow political stuff just makes it more volatile in the near term, and more subject to the whims of whatever group is in power in his biggest market (all companies/nations considered).

It is simple. It is great to have a open platform. Like X. But shut the f up on your view about the politics. By saying you support this or that politician. You are injecting bias into your own platform and fan hate speech more.

His platform, eX-twitter, is not open. Earlier this week eX-twitter suspended an account that raised money for Harris with no explanation, presumably at his request. I used to like him and believed in his mission. But I hate dishonesty and taking advantage of your position which Musk is doing. Stuff is happening now that indicates that he is fundamentally dishonest. What a colossal disappointment he has become.

Agree with Larry, it does cost sales but the real picture is so much bigger that it’s really inconsequential. Having met and dealt with many individuals on the spectrum, including him, I think that has to be taken into account and one should not be so quick to judge.

Elon has the right to express his opinions. I am a shareholder and I find it ridiculous that people think otherwise… If people are deciding on what they shouldn’t buy based on someone’s political views, then they should stop buying everything made in countries that are run by dictators!
