I'm Still Standing (Live at UNSW Main Walkway, Feb 13th 2024)

Hey everyone, this is a recent performance I did as part of a university music event. I had the opportunity to perform three songs, with "Rocket Man" making its live debut. While my piano-playing has shown a major improvement since 2023, my vocals are not fully up to standard, due to my voice not being properly prior to this performance, and the weather being deadly hot. Without further ado, let's get into the song breakdown!
"Philadelphia Freedom" is a decent version overall, with an upbeat tempo and a slightly different piano intro than usual. The first pre-chorus has several vocal issues, with "live and breathe" sounding strained and "PHILadelphia freedom" being way too sharp. Despite this, the rest of the song sounds fine, and I even attempt a "shine a light" falsetto attempt in the second chorus. Making its live debut, "Rocket Man" is a generally good version overall, with great piano work and decent vocals. However, many of the belts are strained, due to my inability to gauge my own vocal power on this song. Furthermore, I am not fully confident with the "OH no no no"s in the choruses, leading to them being delivered either in flat belts or weak falsettos. While I run into a few vocal issues during the piano improv section, it is generally good overall, especially for my first time playing this song live. Finally, "I'm Still Standing" is a spirited version, though more conservative than the rendition I played one week prior, especially in the final chorus. The audience energy is not as high, and many of the Ab4 "I'm"s are flat. Similar to the previous week's version, I play two choruses after the piano solo, inspired by Elton's Bonn 2003 rendition of the song. Overall, this was a good performance and I really enjoyed it!
