The roots start to rot because they're not getting enough oxygen. In water, especially when the water is changed often, provides sufficient oxygen. The wet soil prevents oxygen from getting to the roots, and they turn orange and begin to rot. It's the lack of oxygen that causes this, not the water itself.
Thank you for all of the helpful tips! I just got my second sansevieria and have ran into a few issues I was able to resolve with my first one, the biggest thing was, I didn't realize this plant species was part of the succulent family! That makes a big difference on caring for and loving your plant.
Putting in water worked for me. I tried cutting a leaf then put it in a water with my dying fortune plant. Both thrive and then I saved my dying snake plant by removing it from soil and put in water. 😊
I have one that's about 10 years old, we've been through a lot together. She's huge so can take 3 months without water. She's attempting to break out of her plastic pot again so I hope she'll flower as she loves being pot bound. I adore my big girl, I hope she'll be with me a lifetime.
When planting these in water instead of soil do I need to use any fertilizer in the water occasionally or just water alone? How often does the water need to be changed? Is tap water ok if I let it sit for a day or 2 first so the chlorine can evaporate? Also when using a larger water jar, is it beneficial to use a fish pump to aerate the water like maybe turn it on every few days and let it run for say 5-10 minutes to help oxygenate the water?
Such a strange fact that the plant which cannot bear overwatering grows so beautifully in water ..amazing nature 🎉
True, nature always amazes us 😊💚
