2019 Yamaha YXZ1000R SS Test Review

  • Big updates make the Yamaha YXZ1000R the most improved sport side-by-side of 2019. Yamaha has packed a lot more versatile performance into the 2019 YXZ1000R. We love that nearly every update to the car was focused on making it into even more of a no compromise, pure sport machine with improved durability. We were astonished that the abundance of improvements was somehow accompanied by an $800 reduction in the MSRP of the base model. We would have preferred a $500 drop in price and kept a roof as standard equipment, but for that much savings, we wouldn’t mind picking one up at the dealer.
    As we mentioned in the beginning, if you’re new to side-by-sides, the 2019 YXZ1000R is worth serious consideration. If you’ve been involved since the launch of the YXZ and weren’t sure if it was the right machine for you, we’d strongly suggest that you take a second look. While we were fans before, the Yamaha YXZ1000R is our pick as the most improved sport side-by-side of 2019.

    My 2017 YXZ is absolutely awesome and bulletproof. Just did a Weller flash tune and the power is dramatically increased while running cooler at 180 degrees. The whole unit is a blast to drive and shifting gears with a clutch pedal is second to none! Don’t get caught up with horsepower number wars and go look and drive a YXZ. Lastly...there is no belt to blow leaving you stranded!

    • @UTVonDemand
      @UTVonDemand  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for sharing your experience with the yxz with us. We've also noticed that reflashing stock ecu's lowers operating temperature in addition to building horsepower. That shows you how lean the manufacturers are being forced to run the air-fuel mixture to meet emission standards. Thanks for watching.

      DUNEYXZ I saw an advertisement a while back from Yamaha bragging about the YXZ racing King of the Hammers race, and the fact that they don’t have a belt. The funny part is that for the past several years a belt driven Polaris RZR has dominated this race.

    • @DUNEATV
      @DUNEATV 5 лет назад +2

      Steve&Stephanie Caudill... Well, more RZR’s enter because they are more plentiful. The Can Am X3 changed 5 blown belts in one race. No thanks!

      DUNEYXZ If the YXZ was as good as Yamaha claimed to be that wouldn’t be a problem, it still could have won. It just doesn’t preform as well as the RZR’s or Mavericks.

    Don't complain about the price. If you can't afford latest/fastest top machines, buy a lesser & more practical SxS for half the price. Not everyone can afford a Lexus either. $20k, that's not a lot. Payments on a new diesel truck, a toyhauler AND a $20k SxS are about the same as the cost of raising a couple kids.

    Looks like a great car. Yamaha makes a good product and that engine has proven its self. I'm still going to wait until March 2019 before I lay the cash down. I sort of want to see this new Honda that is supposed to be talked about on Nov. 27th. It should be interesting. I know for sure, after watching my buddies deal with belt problems, that I'll be sticking with a transmission for sure. Breaking down in Hatfield McCoy around dusk wasn't a fun time getting back to camp...

      The one you have in your garage!!!!! Go test drive and buy the one you like and want. That's the best advice I can give you. All the big manufacturers have excellent products. Some people are brand loyal and wont deviate that. Some folks go and shake down all the machines aka the gear heads and go for the best machine. That could change every year. Just go and drive as many as possible and do your research. These dealers love the impulse buyer!!!!!!! Then you have regrets afterwords. So study up and drive. Take your time with your purchase. Dangerously, we can't really speak to that as most side by sides tend to be a bit nose-heavy. However, the the rear shocks don't seem to kick as much in whoops so we would expect that it would fly a bit more level off of jumps. Testing in the desert and woods, we didn't have a chance to get it out on a track and hit some properly built jumps.

You can buy a Jeep Wrangler for that kind of money and have something that you can play with, like these, on weekends and drive to work during the week. I just don't get it anymore...$15000 to $30,000 for these things, $10,000 to $15,000 for snowmobiles, $10,000 to $15,000 for dirt bikes ...all toys that are one trick ponies so to speak. I was talking to a salesman at the local Yamaha dealer and he says he knows that many of this type of one use expensive toys are bought mainly as garage trophies by people that live in suburban areas where they have no chance of riding them other than around the yard or illegally in the roads. Like I said I don't get it. The sad thing is the manufacturers could build and sell these type vehicles for probably half the price they are now...they are WAY more high tech than they need to be... but they don't and won't because they know the consumer these days have more money than brains and are out more for status than actual personal pleasure....so why not i guess. After all it IS all about money these days and showing all your friends and neighbors that you have it, or at least making them think you do.

      If a person has the income to financially responsibly purchase a side-by-side like this we see no problem with it and are glad that Yamaha offers this type of vehicle. That being said, we agreed that there is a real disconnect between the manufacturers today and the income of the average consumer. One of the few things that you said that we can disagree with is that you could ever drive a Jeep Wrangler the way that you can drive the yxz or other similarly priced side by sides. You would destroy any Jeep trying to drive them at the same pace over rough Terrain. It seems like there's a lot of room in performance and cost between a high-end machine like this and somewhat crappy caged go karts, but until consumers refuse to purchase machines that they cannot afford to purchase with cash this is the direction or manufacturers will continue to focus.

      @@UTVonDemand Perhaps true somewhat. And I am NOT talking about those Chinese go cart dune buggy things either. Does Yamaha REALLY need to put probably $1200+ apiece shocks on every corner of these UTVs...No. Does Yamaha need to put a bazillion dollar 3 cylinder water cooled, fuel injected, 4 or 5 valves per cylinder with INDY car technology with of course a gamut of computer controlled tuning engine into these vehicles...or snowmobiles, or dirt bikes??? NFW. If they didn't would the resulting vehicle be a lot slower and less fun??? A little slower absolutely, but considering that only a very select few buyers have the skill and courage to drive them at their top performance I guarantee nobody would notice a less fun factor plus maybe they could cut the cost in half they would sell a lot more of them. Its like with snowmobiles...there is not a snowmobile on the planet that NEEDS liquid cooling. It is a small performance enhancement for a huge cost...not to mention another harmful chemical being dumped into the environment that otherwise might have never seen such a liquid...that being antifreeze. Ditto for motorcycles. Yes I know that all this modern technology adds to performance but like I said there are only a handful that can actually use the added peformance and every year there are less and less simple and less expensive machines on the market that more people will enjoy. Is there a market for this solid gold Yamaha...absolutely. As I said there seems to be a huge status competition fad now with millennials. The more bling I have in my house, car and garage the better I am and I win. Thats why I said these machines are great garage trophies...they sure are pretty sittin in the garage here in my cul-de-sac....and I guess these days that is all that matters! And remember ...you can drive a Jeep to work, and to the grocery store, and to the gym, and to the...well you get the point.

      @@bultacowally we do get the point. Something to keep in consideration is that fuel injection on Modern machines has as much to do with meeting emissions standards as it does improving performance. One thing that we can't stress enough though is the fact that financing now rules our industry. New trucks cost $50,000 and more, houses cost two to three times as much as they did 30 years ago, kids can't afford to work their way through college anymore and cell phone companies who used to sell you a $700 top of the line phone for $300 in cash if you would just commit to using them as your carrier for 2 years now Finance phones at full retail over 3 years and people believe they're getting a better deal because they don't have to pay $300 in cash. Instead, they pay $30 a month. Cell phone manufacturers seeing that consumers have traded in getting a phone for more than 50% off for financing it at its full retail price are now cashing in on the stupidity of consumers and the retail price of a new phone has nearly doubled over the past few years. Innovation in cell phones has slowed while the increase in retail price has gone up dramatically. What's the cause? Financing. if people only purchased what they could afford to save up for and buy everything would cost significantly less.

      @@UTVonDemand couldnt have said it better. Financing or even credit cards create money that doesnt technically exsist. It screws up the economy yet drives it at the same time. Drives inflation through the roof and makes the US dollar actually hold less value. Even when the Fed. Leaves it alone. Which they never do. 😆

    The updates to the YXZ are nice but still not on par with its competion in the SXS market in general. The new RZR is light years ahead of the YXZ and really in it's own class at this point. Yamaha needs to address this fact with a completely redesigned machine. The YXZ is still to specific in it's over all design and simply changing a few things on the machine won't fix it.

    • @UTVonDemand
      @UTVonDemand  5 лет назад +6

      If you are comparing it to the new Turbo S, you are comparing a $20,000 vehicle to a $28,000 vehicle. The Maverick X3 is pretty comparable at that price point. The Yamaha is very unique and based on its retail price is most comparable to the standard RZR 1000 although the Yamaha offers something unique that none of the other manufacturers do. Not many people aren't really racing their side-by-side so it's really not about which is the best it's about which one is best for you. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. You are right in saying the RZR S and the YXZ are different machines but they are always being compared to one another. For an additional 8k I don't think I can get a YXZ in the same ball park HP and suspension wise as the RZR ( 6k for a turbo a 7-8k for a complete suspension upgrades). If Yamaha were to make a mechine that would compete in the same price range as the RZR s that would be nice to see.
