- Filmed on Friday, March 8 2024, I enter the Sunset Point rest area in Black Canyon City, Arizona, which might be the most beautiful rest area in all of America.
#drivingtour #arizona #sunsetpoint
To be fair, if you pick a quiet morning on a beautiful day, with blue skies and fluffy clouds, ALL the rest areas in the Arizona and New Mexico deserts are beautiful.
Ah, the Great American Southwest! You can drive for hours before hitting the next town. I drove the I40 at night with the windows down, the moon out my driver's window all night long. The full moon dodging between clouds. It was very 3-D and memorable. Just a beautiful quarter of America!
A more honest title might have been, “A beautiful view from a rest area.”
That would have been a good title for your video on your channel. 🎅
I pass this stop every week. You should see it in the spring when the wildflowers bloom. I don't think it's the most beautiful rest stop I've ever seen but still is nice.
I was too busy noticing the deplorable state of the roads to notice the view.
There is a ridiculous amount of truck traffic there and the roads take a beating. The highway itself it generally in good shape but the access roads do appear to be neglected.
@@effthegopAlso a surprising amount of ice and rain up there
@@DuneJumper That is true. The 100 degree plus temps in the summer combined with some snow and ice in the winter is not good for asphalt.
Sunset Point is just above the elevation of Denver at 5300 feet. It's the area of transition from the desert floor of Phoenix and the high desert and pine trees of Flagstaff at 7000 feet.
You can look south and see the beginnings of the desert and cactus and look north and see the San Francisco peaks and Humphrey's Peak at 12,600 feet.
Flagstaff is just barely 7,000 feet, not 7,700. I lived there for 6 years.
@@wannabetowasabe Thanks, corrected my comment.
This is kind of the last nice relatively cool area before you drop down into the extremely hot desert and of course the ugliest part of the state which is Phoenix.
@@sunandsage We had a saying or commandment in Flagstaff: "Thou shalt not travel south of Camp Verde from April through October!"
Iowa and Nebraska regularly impress me with the quality of their Interstate Rest Areas. Clean, VERY well maintained, spotless restrooms, Wi-Fi, informative displays, tourism ambassadors, nice picnic amenities, and spaced very nicely along I-80. My hat is off to those employees who keep them in tip-top shape! You can tell that they take great pride in their work.
Any rest area with decent restrooms is beautiful
Soooo damn true!
bonus points if it doesn't smell like a port-a-potty. negative points if it's literally port-a-potties.
@@exploreusacities No kidding! There have been some nasty pit toilets in my past...and probably in my future.
There's some nasty places out there
Name one.
Been stopping there for the past 40 years on my way up to Flagstaff/Mormon Lake Arizona to camp. Sometimes my kids and I will just drive up from the valley to watch the sunset and experience the slight drop in temperature.
Agree this place is nice and after driving 11 hours straight it's nice to pull in and have a nice restroom
Have been here, it's one of the best
I90, Washington State, Rye Grass Summit rest area on a clear day with a view of Mt Rainier from the east side.
Very nice. For me, however, the most beautiful is the Randolph Collier Rest Area off I5 north of Yreka in far Northern California.
@@stevenelson3515 I've lost track of the number of times I've driven the I-5/CA99 stretch between Roseburg OR and Bakersfield CA. Yreka and Weed were always a good place for a quick break and the views of Shasta are beautiful.
Yes sir!!! Some truly awesome vistas on the I-5 in Northern California/Southern Oregon!!!
Great memories of the area while the interstate was being built! Beautiful views of Mt Shasta and Shasta Lake....none other like it in America!!!
Very Nice 🎉🎉! Thanks for sharing 👏👍! 💪🙏
In TX on US 62 180 while starting up Guadalupe Pass at the base of El Capitan Peak is my favorite. Although not a full rest stop. Just roadside picnic tables.
That is Texas. Roadside Picnic Tables. Very cool. A place ot eat my Subway sandwich. TY.
That is a good one. I like that one as well.
That is indeed a pretty rest area. Most beautiful? Hmm.
How about I-15 north of Helena MT, Wolf Creek, especially northbound that has the creek. Southbound is nice also with the mountain, but I prefer the creek side. Especially if traveling with children who need to work off some energy... (don't know if they have closed down some of the access - I've not tried crossing the creek or climbing the mountain for some years!)
The Interstates through Texas have interesting themed historical rest areas. Each is reflective of the locale. None should be missed.
Yes,it is very lovely for sure! There's one in southern Kansas on Hwy264 that's is also awesome!
Not bad, but there's one in Nevada I like better. More grass, bigger trees that give more shade and taller mountains to look at.
New Hampshire on the way north to Portsmouth. Lots of snacks, clean, and even has a small museum and fireplace!

Boy you weren’t kidding! It’s gorgeous.❤
I actually didn't recognize that until I saw the view towards the end. Back when I was an OTR driver. I did make quite a few stops at this rest area.
Ever see the rest stops in the Columbia Gorge? This doesn't even come close.
That is a truly awesome rest stop
It is nice, but frankly the approach ramps and exit ramps, and the general traffic pattern just plain suck. Great view though...{!-{>
Driven through there several times between Phoenix and Flagstaff and totally agree - certainly top 10 at least. There is one on Hwy 82 just after crossing the Fred G Redmon memorial bridge north of Yakima, WA that is gorgeous as well.
That’s a nice one. The western states have the best views. Unless you hate mountains, of course. After 20 years of commercial driving, I’ve seen a lot of beautiful views as I’m sure other commercial drivers have.
Beats any rest area in OK !!!!
@@brucewzimple6475 I grew up in Tulsa and the rest areas between Joplin and OKC were just covered picnic tables unless you stopped at one of the fuel stops.
I grew up in Phoenix and traveled between Phx and Prescott innumerable times, and always thought it was boring. But I've got to admit, definitely beats anythig in Oklahoma, lol.
Yes this is a common stop for me, I do find it special,
But not sure it qualifies as most Beautiful in America
Threw a couple frisbees off the edge about 30 years ago !
hahaha, I bet those frisbees went for a mile
The Texas rest stop on I-10 near Orange at the Louisiana border has a long wooden boardwalk that snakes through Blue Elbow Swamp with great views of cypress tree woods.
Top ten for sure!👍
There are great views from a number of rest stops. This one is pretty darn good.
Beautiful ❤
You were not exaggerating! Beautiful!
Driving west desert roads at night you will likey be able to listen...via the skip...to far away AM radio stations. I80 west of SLC I've listened to Calgary and San Diego.
I knew it was Sunset Point from the thumbnail :) It is halfway between my summer and winter homes.
I have driven by it a thousand times but stopped there only a few.
Nice! Stopped at one on I80 in NV. Opened the door and the wall moved! Covered in flies! Nastiest place I’ve ever seen!
Nevada has the WORST rest areas out of anywhere I've been so far. Have never driven north in NV but I bet they are even worse than those in southern NV
@@exploreusacities I’ve never seen anything like it
So?
Every fall one side of my house is covered in box elder bugs. It happens.
No, I just sa w the most beautiful in California with the ocean view near San Diego :) I didnt filmed that one but today We'll be recording Los Angeles :)
All I could think of while watching this was how barren. Wisconsin has beautiful rest areas with TREES. Also charming dog walk paths maintained through the underbrush. Picnic tables by shade trees. This is not even worth getting out of your car to pee.
Ha...Come to Vermont...best and my scenic,and clean,and interesting information rest stops,especially during Fall Foliage Season...Apple Cider,Donuts,Maple Syrup...10stars❤
I’ll be to Vermont soon, even though you are a bunch of communists!
It's ok, for high desert...at the right
time of day and the right time of year.
You're better off getting past this area
of I17. Every other day it's closed
down for an accident or a brush fire.
Nice but the most beautiful? Not hardly.
There was a brush fire there when I went by two days ago.
That's good, but the ones off of I-40 are pretty good east of flagstaff. Painted Cliffs Rest Area just before the NM border is one of the best. Much better than that one!
Nice stop at that stop sign
There are a couple on I-89 that could give it a run for its' money and defend the honor of the Northeast. Springfield, NH and Sharon, VT (both northbound) to be specific.
You had a very photogenic day for it.
Gorgeous
That's looks like the one on I-17. I've been there. It's nice.
Bet they got good cell phone coverage. I know towns that don’t have that many towers
Someone mentioned the Columbia gorge as the most beautiful rest area. I’d say the Starbucks outside of Mount Shasta off the 5 is beautiful. Another one is the rest area overlooking the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas. This is pretty but the most beautiful? No.
There is a nice one in Texas off highway 40 with Texas shaped BBQ grills
I've never seen someone actually grilling at a rest area. Lots of picnics, sure. But who the hell brings raw meat with them on a road trip?
@@exploreusacities Truckers
@@josephhoward7496 good point
Nice, but we have at least 2 on I-81 here in Virginia that are as beautiful. Beauty is not confined to the area west of the Mississippi.
Well it takes forever to get to it and it's huge. WA state rest areas are quite different.
Now I'm thinking hard...I've been in this rest area once, it does have a nice view...some states are better at this than others...Florida does good, and Alabama...New Hampshire and Oregon are nice...for scenery Arizona and Utah are way up there, I always liked the one on i10 going west into Tucson...
The I17….one of the most dangerous interstate sections in the US. Lots of traffic. It is just about the only North-South road in Arizona so everyone funnels thru it. Up further north, where the 179 forks off, there are magnetic “vortexs” (Montezuma Well is one) that tends to mess up folks (and the steep incline doesn’t help, either), causing numerous accidents and deaths between 18 wheelers and tourist cars. Killer views all along the road, tho.
We was there 12 years ago.
Wyoming got this bet
3:33 is the best part.
I have been there and believe me it is not beautiful. It is a hot, arid, dusty pull-off next to a busy interstate…
Some people you can't please anyway
It can be nice in late fall or very early spring when the temps are tolerable. No rest area itself along an interstate is beautiful.
This most certainly is the most Beautiful rest area in America.
Look at those broken up Arizona roads.
Build back better at work?
That's the access roads. They're not all that way.
@@DavidKroff😂😂😂
@@srvntlilly I drive them all the time. There terrible.
Nevada (best roads) needs to teach Arizona how to build a road! AMEN!
That’s just Arizona, the most beautiful area in the world!!!
CAUTION rattlesnakes!
Stay on sidewalk
This isn't a rest stop it's a seinic destination.
Knew it wasn't going to be Arkansas, their rest areas are disgusting.
It might be nice until you go into the restrooms.
Do you NOT know what STPO signs are for?
what da fuq are you talking about
There's a certain irony to uploading a video claiming to have seen something beautiful in 144p
My videos are in 4k, your internet connection is lacking
I’ve seen better but it is a nice view.
what hath God wrought?
United states not america north america usa mexico canada
Worst: Colorado
Best: West Virginia
Honorable Mention: New Hampshire
But I have never been to this one
Not much of a rest area in my opinion
That's it? Not very impressive at all .Pretty lame.
Did you want me to film the toilets?
The one on I-40 near Havasu is heated and air conditioned
Why are people so freakin rude? Honestly, don't want to sound cliche', but if you don't have anything nice to say, why say anything?
Blasphemy..... lol
You might need to get out more.
wow that's really rude, you are hurting my feelings
@@exploreusacities you're right. my apologies.
