When you said that the chicken momo filling needed a little spice I instantly realised where that was coming from. The momo you had back in India weren't authentic nepali momo but more of an Indian version where they use a little more spice. If you get momo in Nepal or Sikkim or Darjeeling they will have little to no spice but quite a lot of ginger which is I believe a more authentic Nepalese momo. We nepali people like to savour the simple flavour of the meat the most and the dip and jhol is what has most of the spice. And yes we do eat around 20-30 of them in one seating. 😭
Mo:Mo isnt newari food. The word Mo:Mo itself is tibetan. The tibetan merchant brought the food to Nepal. You can google it before being ignorant and replying to me.@@BishwakarmaOfficialyt
I am crying!!!! I am Greek and i am in love with Nepal, Nepalese food and Nepali people.. i Have been in Nepal 22 years ago and i still have the taste of the food in my mouth.... I was the Queen of Momos.. Unfortunately i cant find in Athens a Nepalese restaurant.. Thank you for bringing those memories back !!!!
I agree with the momos being the best dumpling out there statement... When I was in Nepal I couldn't get enough of them. Nepalese people had the BEST sauces to go with them, I distinctly remember that. My partner and I ended up looking for a cooking class to know how they make them... SO GOOD!!! The spices and everything they use are just heavenly. If anyone goes to Kathmandu, go have veg momos at White House Kitchen. AMAZING
We have many Nepali people here in Northeastern India, they have such a beautiful culture but I was honestly expecting Sel Roti in this video and surprised it did not make it, Sel Roti is such an iconic Nepali dish during Vijayadashami/Dashain.
My cat Momo (named after the “flying lemur” from Avatar the Last Airbender) was listening very intently each time someone from the video said his “name” 😉😸
As a Nepali person, I'm so happy you're doing this episode! I also think Mexican food and Nepali food have some crossover in terms of flavours and spice! Plus we have titaura which I think is quite similar to Pulparindo!
I agree! I’m Mexican and worked at a nepali restaurant for 4yrs and I’ve cooked many Nepali dishes at home and my family thought it was a family recipe lol
Thank you Beryl for featuring my submission! :) Loved watching you try nepalese food. The grilled tandoori meat with samaybaji is called "Chhoila" and the falafel type of thing is "Bara- a pancake made out of lentils". I think the chatamari you got had a thick base, which normally is not the case. There's much more to nepalese cuisine. i hope you will try it in the future as well! Much love from Nepal!
You actually miss the main dish called "Dhal bhat tarkari" which is very famous in Nepal. Every nepalese eat this daily. I think you should try this! Love from Nepal🇳🇵
Remembering my trip to Nepal and all the lovely people there - I don't think I've ever been to a place where the people are just so genuinely sweet and generous ❤️ - And yes, the portion sizes are like that, and not only for guests - my nepali friends always joke about serving (and eating without the smallest shred of guilt) a Himalaya of rice and dal. They can never believe when I capitulate after about a third of what is heaped on my plate 😄
Just reading all these comments from brothers and sisters from foreign countries and how they have Nepalese restaurants where they live and they visit often. It makes me so happy that our Nepalese brothers and sisters have well flourished our cuisine overseas and how so many different people enjoys them. Thank you to all the Nepalese abroad, to all the people for beautiful comments and to you Beryl for this video. ❤
I'm surprised (in a good way) that Newar cuisine features so prominently in this sampling of Nepali foods. It confuses me that chatamari would be a main dish while samay baji would be an appetizer - those should definitely be switched! Samay baji is a composed meal, in much the same way that a Thali is. The thing in the middle is a lentil fritter/cake, called wo in Newari and bara/vada in many languages in Nepal/India. Chatamari is more of a snack or small meal, and is often cut into pieces and shared. If your chatamari was doughy, it wasn't properly made. It should be crisp on one side and tender on the other, like an utthapam. Chyang, like momo, is of Tibetan origin. Momo has a longer history in Nepal, as it was brought back by Newar traders. The way you eat dozens of momo is that you gather with family and eat it while you make it. The littlest hands roll the dough into balls while experienced matriarchs roll them out into wrappers. Someone is in charge of depositing the exact amount of filling and everyone else pitches in to pleat them shut. You pop momo straight off the steamer into your mouth, while continuing to make more. You spend the whole evening this way, chatting, drinking, eating and making more and more momo. Like Sukuti, the best momo filling is buff (water buffalo meat). It's not really available outside of Nepal, so I hope one day you're able to travel and try it.
My favorite food is dumplings and I’ve eaten almost every kind. So far, my favorite dumplings out of all of them are Nepali Momos, so completely agree with you, Beryl! 😄
This whole video I was like,"No Beryl, everything you ordered is one serving of food and we eat it in one sitting. Alone. Especially the samay baji set in the beginning.(Yes, we eat it all. plus they come around to add more)" 😭 Also, about the 30 momos thing. We usually have the whole family involved while making them, so we eat while we make more. You tend to lose count of how many you ate while making more. 😂
When we came to Nepal a few years back, we were each greeted with a plate like the one in the beginning (where we stayed). It took us 3 days to finally finish the food 😂🤦🏻
I live a few blocks from that restaurant and love it. Especially the chatamuri which isn’t something I’ve seen on a lot of other Nepali menus in the area. I’ve had it there and delivered and it’s def better there. It also comes with a little goat curry to poor over the top. Really satisfying. Great restaurant and one of dozens in the woodside/Jackson heights area.
There's a Nepalese restaurant in my city which does some of the best curry I have ever eaten, but I haven't been able to narrow down the kind of recipe they use for my favourite one - it's labelled as "Jomsom" on the menu, but based on my research, it's the region their chef is from, rather than a specifically defined style.

I feel so emotional beryl, the way you put so much respect and care into making this video really hit my heart. As a newari person, it’s so lovely to see so much of our food highlighted 💕
This Momo (my nickname) LOVES Momo's and I remember when we were living in Austin, there's this lovely Nepali mom who sold homemade momo's at the local Farmers Market along with her wonderful sauces and salsa's and I'm not kidding you that there were dozens of people in line waiting to pounce and get their hands on them when she opened her stall. I've had momo's in India and Nepal and agree with several of the comments below about the spice level being amped up in India and found the Nepali ones to have a more subtle fragrance to them. Either way, you can't go wrong with a Momo!
I love this episode. I had no idea what Nepalese food is. Yum, I agree it's community food. I have always been amazed of the land and her people in Nepal. I've watched so many documentaries and no one talks about what they eat!. Thank you for posting what you ordered in the description. I already know what I would order if I have a chance at Nepalese dining.
OMG nepalese food in NYC is amazing -- you should try Nepali Bhanchha Ghar in Queens which has the most amazing Sel Roti -- its soooo scrumptious and oily and fresh -- with their fresh dipping sauce -- omg I'm fasting and my mouth is watering just thinking about it
you could've had yomari as a dessert which would go well with the menu that you had in this ep. Its also a newari dish kinda like a dumpling filled with sweet fillings (chakku, khuwa, etc)
Just took my 14 year-old foodie son on a restaurant crawl for his birthday. Nepalese was his very first stop!! Momo’s and lamb pepper fry were delicious.

We can and usually eat 20 or 30 momos if it is homemade. You truly got the essence of Nepali food most of our food is meant to share. You should definitely try more Nepali food considering the food you tried mostly belonged to Newari community. A suggestion if you want to be shocked and thrown off completely try Rai and Limbu food.
Nepalese cuisine is awesome! Chatamari and Samay Baji are so loved in Nepal, as well as Wo. Chatamari is a perfect dish for a filling meal plus it's gluten free, has protein and is super healthy AND you can have it for any meal of day breakfast lunch or dinner. Chatamari should be just slightly thicker than a crepe and not too thick, and it comes in various types. Traditionally you have egg chatamari or Buff Chatamari (minced buffalo with mild seasonings). You can definitely have it with sauces if you want. If you're vegetarian of course experiment with vegetables to your liking. Newari Jhol momo is soooo good I love the flavour of this dish, it's mild and has fragrant taste of sesame, sichuan peppercorn, and hog plum. Jhol momo is glorious. Lastly, I wish you could try the authentic Nepalese Buff momo Beryl! Chicken momo is great but Buff is even greater. Closest thing you could substitute if Buff isn't available where you live is Beef. Now I'm off to go make some Chatamari because watching this video made me crave it so much!
I find it kind of ironic- I am from the US but live in a village in Nepal, about 9 miles from the border of Tibet. As I watch you, in the US, eating Nepali food, I am here in Nepal eating Shepherd's pie which I just made in the pressure cooker. But I do have a side of chiura (beaten rice) on the side!
Momos are awesome. We had a random mom and pop pizza place that had homemade beef, chicken and veg momos on the menu. I didn't even realize they were Nepalese I just make a habit of eating anything on the menu I've never heard of.
Consuming beef is very rare in Nepal and found only in a few communities like Muslims or Christians. For the Hindus, cow is a holy animal and they would never eat beef momos. Hence, buff momos are very popular here but the beef ones. Maybe they aren't even made. Furthermore, the Brahmin communities (the older generations mostly) dont even prefer buff so buff momos always come in round shape to make them more identifiable.
And I love that you actually tried AUTHENTIC Nepalese food. 🙌 Too many times some people make videos about Nepalese food and there's just a bunch of Indian food. I love this video!
Hey Beryl, I love your videos! They are both entertaining and educational! I live in Houston, Texas so there are a lot of international cuisines here. these types of videos give me a much better idea of what to try when I get the chance. You Rock! Love from South Texas!
I was having my dinner while watching this. I cannot watch Beryl and her food-related enthusiasm when I am not eating... because I will be eating by the end of the video anyway. :)
There’s a Nepalese cafe not too far from where I live and a potato dish I had there is probably the best potato dish I’ve ever had in my life but I don’t remember what it’s called. 😊
ITS MOMO NOT MOMOS. You don't say pizzas, its pizza, whether its a slice or multiple slices, its always "x number of pizza slices". The same goes for momo, whether its a piece, multiple pieces, a plate, half plate or multiple plates. Its always momo. You could say "x plates of momo" but never "momos".

@Christopher Kinsella omg yeah obviously! I pass by Kathmandu kitchen all the time! You know those places that are just like part of the furniture so you don't even really see them any more? Thank you haha
One of my favorite restaurants is Himal Chuli in Madison WI. The thing that is so great about Nepali food is you feel … vibrant? Healthier? It’s hard to describe, but every time I’ve eaten there I just feel complete afterwards. And, you know, also, it’s so delicious. Lucky for me we also have a Nepali restaurant where I live in Minneapolis. It’s a different vibe, almost like Nepali meets North Indian food, but also very good.
Delicious looking food guys. This looked really good. Only has Nepalese food a couple of times but both times was sooo memorable. Great recommendations ❤
Beryl is so cute! She was so confident when she said Bhel but she still said it wrong. Enjoyed this episode as well. Something about her videos that gives such feel good kind of a feeling.
Chatamari in Kathmandu is totally different from what is seen in your video. It is a crime to serve chicken choila in a samay baji set where the buffalo meat is grilled in hay and then spiced with enough tomato puree, chilly flakes, and ginger garlic paste. I would also recommend having sel roti (deep-fired rice flour-based doughnut-like bread ). Nepali lentils are totally different from the daal used in India as we dont use dried spices. A sweet yomari ( sweet dumpling with jaggery or would complete your journey of exploring Newari cuisine over the rasbari (which is more of an Indian dessert).
Beryl, I completely agree with your preference for ordering a table full of dishes to share! I'm absolutely a "let's try everything" diner and am always so happy to go out to eat with friends who are on board with family-style dining.
I love dumplings. We have a type of dumpling in Australia called the 'Dim Sim'... (not Dim Sum)... It is a Chinese Australian invention, usually made with beef or lamb but sometimes pork and cabbage, white pepper, chinese 5 spice, sesame oil, garlic and soy sauce. I'm not sure if these are available internationally but the most famous dim sims are 'South Melbourne market dim sims'... you can buy them frozen in the supermarket here but they're an actual takeaway franchise from Melbourne Australia.
Fantastic as always! The momos I have tried have been disappointing. You have inspired me to keep searching for the delicious ones! But note to self: do *not* watch Beryl's videos while fasting! Ramadan Mubarak y'all!
As a newar its a preety good feeling.I think you should visit Nepal especially parts of Kathmandu to see the culture of newar and the Jatras that happen here.Jatra is a very giant festival or a sort of a party its crazy with alot of instruments, dances and many more.v
Newari culture is a mix of many generations of different ethnicity which ruled over Kathmandu valley. It is not any specific ethnicity that many believe. Newari culture is the true culture of Nepal.
I agree with you, Beryl! I hate going out with people (mostly previous co-workers) who only order their one dish and are not open to sharing multiple dishes, family style.
Beryl, you are a magical human being. This isn't the first episode where you made this picky eater excited to try new food. Also, the "that'll give you arm hair" reaction almost made me shoot coffee out of my nose.
My mum's version growing up was "that'll put hairs on your chest", which as a little girl who did not want chest hair really put me off a few things hahaha when it was supposed to encourage me to eat up!
Nepalese food just doesn’t exist in Cleveland Ohio, but I had an insane rice dish in London last September at a place called “the Junk Shop” in Greenwich! What a fun time, just hanging out with the proprietor,Tobias,so cool,he’s like Keith Richards😂
I don't understand why people refer to this food as 'momos' instead of 'momo'. I believe this might be because others are also using the plural form, and as a result, it has become more commonly accepted.
I tend to order the same thing when I order out, so lately Beryl has helped me travel more in my cusine. Writes up what I`m curious to try and order when I can :), Thank you Beryl.
Beryl I would to see you go and watch some foods being made, like imagine watching different types of momo being made and then tasting them. Either at a restaurant or on location! Some of my favourite parts of travel have been cooking classes of different cuisines, would love to do that vicariously through you!
It was basically a Newari food episode. I would love to watch Nepali food episode. There are a lot off different cuisines from east to west and from north to south of Nepal(all different from eachother).
Momos with the tomato chutney is amazing. It is my favorite dumpling as well. Sorry to all other Asians. I love all dumplings but Momos are my favorite.
You could definitely tell that momos are a Nepalese staple from that montage of 4/5 guests saying some variation "and of course momos..." and then the 5th guest coming in to recommend a specific type 😂 If I ever get the chance to visit a Nepalese restaurant, I'll make sure to order some!
2:35 "::::exhalation:::: That's gonna give you arm hair." HAHAHA Beryl! You brought me back 50 years to when I was a little kid and, when we were surprised by a food item's taste, and would start to whinge about it, our dad would say, "That'll give you hair on your chest." Not sure, to this day, what he meant by that, but you took me back to happy times. So, thanks! Everything looked so good. And, little doggy's appearance in the beginning made me so happy! I cannot wait to track down a Nepalese restaurant, or some recipes here on RUclips, to try the foods from today's video. Well-done, as always, Beryl!

I wish you had tried chicken momo with the soup (jhol) that vegetable momo came with. That’s the perfect combo.🤤
I didn't know anything about Nepalese food and now I'm dying to try it!
This remains my favorite series of yours.
omg omg omg as a reagular nepalese viewer this makes me so happy beryl!!
1 momo = MoMo
2 momo = MoMo
Infinite momo = Also MoMo
Thankyou
Nepalese are so good in making momos and i love ❤ it from 🇮🇳
We can and usually eat 20 or 30 momos if it is homemade.
Beryl's said it. Momos are definitely the best dumplings out there!!
@@Moonshine.44ya, but he is talking about momos sold in the U.S. Buff meat is not available in the U.S. so I m sure they sell beef, pork and chicken.
Ik but I'm just awaring them IF they might not know and they might consider beef momos are made in Nepal.
Spent 2 weeks in Nepal.. Miss the people, scenery and mostly the food.. 🤤
We have a growing Nepalese population where i live so it truly is nice to see this. 💖💖💖
Just sat down to eat my lunch - what perfect timing to eat together! ❤️
May be Aalu dam 😂
‘aalu tāma’ - aaalu (potato) tāma (bamboo shoots)- popular soup dish and is served heavily in local cafes
Rains outside and Jhol momos are made for each other combination ❤
ITS MOMO NOT MOMOS.
You don't say pizzas, its pizza, whether its a slice or multiple slices, its always "x number of pizza slices".
The same goes for momo, whether its a piece, multiple pieces, a plate, half plate or multiple plates. Its always momo. You could say "x plates of momo" but never "momos".
Oh, Beryl, the queen of cuisine,
Her love for food, a sight to be seen.
Her taste buds tingle with delight,
As she devours each scrumptious bite.
From curries to soufflés, she'll never tire,
Her passion for food, a burning fire.
Her RUclips channel, a culinary quest,
A gastronomic journey to be the best.
Rajat, her husband, a loving man,
Supports her food adventures as best he can.
Yet, he knows deep inside his heart,
In Beryl's world, food claims the largest part.
Her kitchen, a canvas for her creations,
Whipping up meals, a true sensation.
From street food to gourmet fare,
Beryl's love for food, beyond compare.
Oh, Beryl, the foodie queen supreme,
Every dish, a flavorful dream.
Her love for food knows no bounds,
Through every bite, pure joy resounds.
Rajat smiles, he understands,
His wife's love for food, so grand.
For in each plate, he sees her heart,
And knows food love keeps them from falling apart.
So here's to Beryl, a culinary muse,
Her love for food, we all could use.
Let's raise a fork, a spoon, or knife,
And celebrate the deliciousness of life.
I love your Ode to Beryl! ❤
@@lauraellen189 thank you laura! I must say the soul and brain is mine but the hand that thread those word is of an AI!
Very nice!
Didn’t read all of it but impressed
Bravo MN & well done. Hope Beryl pins your comment.
Chuckled at Beryl's reaction to spicy carrots...
"That's really hot.
Whatever that is...
that's gonna give you arm hair." 🌶🔥🤯
I definitely LOLed! 😆
This is so cool Beryl. Thanks for this 😍❤️
You were talking about shared meals and my brain was like SHARE IT WITH ASHA. SHE'S RIGHT THERE. 😅😅
me too :D
Best chatamari is made when the base is crispy and the toppings are well cooked and soft.
We went to a Nepalese reastayrant in Dublin of all places, and it was just amazing. 11/10, would do it again!
Oooh! I live in Dublin! Di you remember what it was called?
@@Rose-jz6sx there’s Kathmandu kitchen on dame street or fishtail out dundrum direction. Had great food in both.
@Christopher Kinsella omg yeah obviously! I pass by Kathmandu kitchen all the time! You know those places that are just like part of the furniture so you don't even really see them any more? Thank you haha
Chatamari looks so good, I'm drooling! it also looks like Filipino Torta in a way.
I agree with the momo statement...it is the best and it is heavenly..
I loooooove momos. I can’t do spice very well, but the Nepalese food place by my house makes them so good that I don’t even care how spicy they are
Beryl is so cute! She was so confident when she said Bhel but she still said it wrong. Enjoyed this episode as well. Something about her videos that gives such feel good kind of a feeling.
This looked so amazing and delicious, I'm hungry now!
This video is coming to such a great timing!! I'm actually travelling to India and Nepal next week! Can't wait to try so many new things!
As a Nepali I approve Nepalese momos are the BESSSTTTT you passed the vibe check
Looks incredible! Thankfully I just moved to a place near a Nepalese restaurant
Beryl, I completely agree with your preference for ordering a table full of dishes to share! I'm absolutely a "let's try everything" diner and am always so happy to go out to eat with friends who are on board with family-style dining.
I love how you always add some extra decorations to the food. You are so artistic! And kind to the food!
I’ve only been able to try Mimi’s from the Nepalese stand at the FM but now I really need to find more Nepalese food!
Thank u for trying it ❤
I love that Aisha got a little bite! She was looking interested when you ordered, so I'm glad she got to share in the food!
Fantastic as always!
The momos I have tried have been disappointing. You have inspired me to keep searching for the delicious ones!
But note to self: do *not* watch Beryl's videos while fasting! Ramadan Mubarak y'all!
Ramadan Mubarak!
I find it hard enough to watch these videos while waiting for lunch or dinner, I don't know how you did it!
LOL the struggle was real! :)
@@cjtorres5917 enjoy your iftar this evening!
Thank you! :)
As a newar its a preety good feeling.I think you should visit Nepal especially parts of Kathmandu to see the culture of newar and the Jatras that happen here.Jatra is a very giant festival or a sort of a party its crazy with alot of instruments, dances and many more.v
Nepali food is really so tasty and comforting.. i would really like to try some authentic food in authentic places ❤
ahhhhhh THANK YOU SO MUCH
Newari culture is a mix of many generations of different ethnicity which ruled over Kathmandu valley. It is not any specific ethnicity that many believe. Newari culture is the true culture of Nepal.
beryl always bringing us the knowledge of the world
I agree with you, Beryl! I hate going out with people (mostly previous co-workers) who only order their one dish and are not open to sharing multiple dishes, family style.
I couldn't agree more...Momos are definitely the best dumplings Everrrrrr!
The only thing more beautiful than your plating, is your dimples!
Thanks for everything!
Beryl, you are a magical human being. This isn't the first episode where you made this picky eater excited to try new food.
Also, the "that'll give you arm hair" reaction almost made me shoot coffee out of my nose.
Same!
After that $20 bottle of rice wine, sounds like Beryl is a "Chyanged" person 🥁🥴
omggggggg hahahahahhahah
Lots of Love ❤ From Nepal 🇳🇵
Love this series!
I don't understand why people refer to this food as 'momos' instead of 'momo'. I believe this might be because others are also using the plural form, and as a result, it has become more commonly accepted.
Whenever I hear someone call it 'momos', it makes me cringe.
Momo is the best dumpling out there!!!yes you can absolutely say that
I tend to order the same thing when I order out, so lately Beryl has helped me travel more in my cusine. Writes up what I`m curious to try and order when I can :), Thank you Beryl.
omg thank you i have been requesting this video from like day 1 of watching your video. hope you liked our dishes love from nepal
Beryl I would to see you go and watch some foods being made, like imagine watching different types of momo being made and then tasting them. Either at a restaurant or on location! Some of my favourite parts of travel have been cooking classes of different cuisines, would love to do that vicariously through you!
Hi Beryl, I really enjoy your videos. Just wondering, will you do a video of Ramadan/Iftar food around the world again?
Finally nepalese dish 😅
Love from nepal ❤
I was literally thinking of ordering Nepalese food for dinner before I saw this video! It was meant to be!!!
I'm from East India and can confirm Jhol Momos are life, thanks to our friends in Nepal.
