  • Unprepared and conditions beyond safe limits, but we got Out There anyhow! The first overnighter on the new Gheenoe Classic 15'6" went well down in Panama City Beach after Hurricane Micheal. Took some risks but in the end everyone (me and the boat) made it home safely!

    Kayak, paddleboard, boat, it doesn't matter. That's not why I watch you. I watch you because I love to see you explore new places. I love your view that "while things seem to sometimes go wrong" you are always positive. You never know what Trip might run into and that makes it even more fun. Life is an adventure

    Gheenoes are the ultimate fishing machine in the creeks and rivers. Hate to be the ranger raccoon safety person but your a firefighter like me and I know you realize bad things happen all the time; put that PFD on, least when running and especially solo. Got people waiting on ya back home,

    • @TripSmith

      Yea, I'm really liking the Gheenoe... There are times when I will wear the PFD. Around Florida, 95% of people probably don't wear one when boating....

    Kinda skipping around from video to video when I can, but love the content, new and old. I could only wish to have a sliver of the adventures and experiences that you have had. I hope you will continue to share and have safe and fun travels. Thank you. As far as the water not being good that day, I’ll take Floridas waters on their worse days over ours. All we have in Louisiana is muddy water but, I’ve got a new 4 stroke, and I plan on starting to explore what I can , when I can.

    Trip, I've got over 230 springs mapped out along the Suwanee (mix of private and public land, from first magnitudes to small boils). I'm working on getting every spring in North Florida mapped out onto a public GPX file since it seems impossible to find a reliable single source map. A lot of the data come from various sources... USGS, old topo maps, etc. We did a five day Suwanee paddle, 70 miles, still didn't even get to a quarter of them! The motor will help, but even spending 30 minutes at each spring...you'd need a month of perfect weather to visit them all!

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  5 лет назад

      Yes, it does seem impossible to find a good map... You would need a lot of time to visit them all, but I'd be more interested in hitting the biggest ones on that trip. Let me know when you get a map together! WOUld love to check it out.

    You should join me on the Suwannee River! I have 7 acres, 2 houses, and guide from Branford, Fl to the Santa Fe to the Ichnatucknee and then off down river hitting all springs and parks along the way. Spend the night in Suwannee, maybe fish for breakfast and then head back up the River or for a Longer Adventure, on to Steinhatchhee on the West Coast, all in our Gheenoe's! Yes of course a Florida native has a Gheenee! Reach out and let's make a plan, I'll even help shoot it to help my Suwannee River Rest & Adventures.

    You need the firebox stove for stealth camping. Look it up on Google and RUclips, the guy that invented it or sales it has a RUclips channel Firebox stove.

    Nice 16 Classic! Good to see you on one. I have a 15’4” Highsider. Not as nice as yours but very effective for Fishing smaller bays and back country marsh areas. The nice thing about Panama cities bay system, is that it’s always easy to launch and stay on the leeward shores out of heavy winds. There is always a pleasant section for a Gheenoe adventure.
    It amazes me why there are so few of us with Gheenoes in the panhandle. I imagine it’s because when you are coming from a paddle craft background, a gheenoe is actually stepping up in speed, stability and overall luxury. Where as one who has never even owned a kayak would give a big “ hell no” to the idea of a little Ghee. Lol. Man are they missing out.
    Love your stuff! I met you a long time ago at Sunjammers water sports. We need to go sight fish some reds.

I am in the process of making a gear hammock. I am a boat owner and I never thought to use my 17.5ft. Lund Fishing boat for an adventure but I bet I could easily. Nice to see you are expanding. I started looking at square stern canoes. We are getting a travel trailer so won't be able to tow my Montgomery 15' Sailboat. But a canoe could go on truck rack! Good timing. I live too far to get one on these. But again good timing.

    Nice vid. I do appreciate people that can have a good time by themselves and dont need a crowd. Seems the most amazing things happen when your by yourself. Some of most amazing days fishing come when there are no witnesses (for me anyway)
    Please please please tether the killswitch to your wrist or belt loop. You happen to fall out underway and you have zero chance of getting back in the boat and may have a very long swim (if your lucky) while your noe continues to another county.
    Be smart.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  5 лет назад

      Hey thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, it can be amazing to enjoy the outdoors by yourself at times...
      You are absolutely correct about the kill switch. I didn't notice it before starting on this trip, but the kill switch tether was to short. On the upcoming video (few days) I've extended it so I can wear it while underway.

    If we want our kids and grandkids to have access to those beautiful lakes are rivers like we do, we need to preserve them. spraying aftershave in the wild can damage the ecosystem. Some people will say that a small quantity will have no effect and it might be true but as more and more people go into the wilderness, human wastes are being spread across those places. Best exemple is mount Everest, people are climbing it and taking shits and urinating on the mountain as they climb. Today all the streams near the mountain are contaminated with human feeces and water supplies of nearby villages are now undrinkable. Food for thought.
