- This is a 1980 corvette with and automatic transmission. If your reverse lights are not working this could be why. The fuse is the same fuse for the brake and turn signals so if those work the problem is not the fuse.
It is easier to remove both seats just to lift center console to access those plugs. Much easier. Also it would be best to leave the unit in tack and remove the bracket and all. New part should come with silver bracket attached. And see other video for pin. That little pin pushes into a little hole on shifter to align it.

Thanks for the video. I had no idea where to locate it on the car. For some reason on my 79 it stips workong when the car is hot but starts again after it's cooled off.
Should be a very easy swap out
It is actually easier if you take both seats out. Just to lift center console to pull those plugs. And this did fix my back up lights.
When you remove the plastic parts of the switch by bending the tabs that hold the housing onto the metal mounting plate, there are 2 tiny springs & 2 tiny copper rollers that will drop out from the smaller “second piece.” The rollers lay across the brass strips imbedded in the larger piece of the plastic housing.
Before removing the switch you can save a lot of trouble by testing it with a multimeter. Shift into Park & Neutral to see if there’s continuity between each set of wires. Then shift out of Park & there should be no continuity.
