- The Foo Fighters with David Lee Roth playing Van Halen's Panama and Ain't Talkin 'bout Love at Dave Grohl's Birthday Club Show at the Forum in Los Angeles 1/10/15
People slagging of Diamond Dave's vocals are sadly missing the point! He has never been just about vocals (regardless of his age now). It is his unpredictability, story telling, martial arts moves and charisma etc that has made him so watchable as a front man over the years! Saw his DLR band in 88 with Vai and it still ranks in my top 3 gigs of all time! Fantastic entertainment (coupled with brilliant VH hits) and fun not to mentioned superb guitar playing (Vai) and drumming with (Bissonette) and put a smile on everyone's face! just like now all these years later. Look at the rest of the band's faces. It is of kids in sweet shop! Legendary rock front man right there! Its all Pizza baby!
Dave's got Carazma!
I agree 100 percent
Sigh... I remember the first time hearing Yankee Rose and thinking this would be the next great American rock band. EEAS was such a great album.
If you spent 40 years screaming some of the greatest rock vocals of all time then you're voice might be jacked now, too.
yep, on on board for ole Diamond Dave! (now the caveat) EVEN THOUGH, and aside from other probably more significant critiques which may apply, he (courageously and out of hair-loss necessity) broke a popular taboo that i have kind of complained about over the years: rockers with haircuts ( I am 50 so growing up with long hair rock - from woodstock to glam rock - is kind of engrained)... whatever, my two cents.
my right ear loved this.
Both of my ears enjoyed it.
mine too.

Dude that's perfect I actually checked my phones.🤣🤣🤣
I met him at a Sushi Bar when I was working as a waiter. He was the nicest musician I met in LA. Very gentleman.
Cool.
Who...dave??? I think he would be a cool person and someone good to hang out with...love him!
and very rich , he doesn;'t care what people think when they couldn't compare to his shirt in the talent category
Lier
That's nice to hear
Makes you realize how back in the day how great this guy was jumping off 10 foot speakers while doing a split touch his hands to his toes in mid-air Landing like he had a parachute on his back while still blasting out vocals don't make them like that ANYMORE !
@@magicmojoman I think your right that. I'm in my 50's, and feeling pain from all the shit I did when I was younger.
It made him rich though.
RIGHT?
THEE BEST AMERICAN HARD ROCK BAND THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN
@@ralphtom3431 Quite possibly. After using an MXR echoplex, Im a beliver. EVH always sounds better with it IMO.
Dlr was all that back n the day> legend, ty foo fighters 4 takin a chance on mr ego :)
Diamond Dave, one of the greatest frontmen ever.
When he walk's onstage it's like someone flicked a switch & the Magic is still there like it always was, the man is a legend.
The way Dave moves on stage reminds me of the TWO WILD & CRAZY GUYS from SNL!!!
At that age, he has to keep from upsetting his sciatica.
The way he acts too when he talks, (delusional), glad to see other people remember that.
Its the funky 70s hat and clothes
Hahaha that’s pretty funny
Saw Van Halen when Eddie first did Eruption !I was 15 first concert and from that night I was hooked on live music !I have never seen a band since then with the energy and pure joy playing their music!David Lee Roth was a killer front man !
Diamond Dave...still crazy after all these years. Great to see him with the Foo's!
you say that and only can think of Paul Simon
God Bless Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters, and God Bless Dave Lee Roth! He was a legend showman, shame to always see and read so much negativity thrown at him, he definitely doesn't deserve that! If he wants to move the way he does on stage at his age that's his prerogative! Not many 60 + performers can do that! More power 2 u Mr Roth!
He still is
I agree with Jag- Dave Grohl is a one of a kind that has no insecurities. If the ones that remember or will acknowledge with the release of 'Van Halen 1980 first LP' on February 10th how the 8-track was completely the shit... I saw them live in Shreveport LA in 1979 as the 3rd or first act in front of Journey and Mahogany Rush. After Van Halen opened the show Frank Mahogany refused to play citing Eddie V had stole his licks. Mr. Dave Grohl honors the 'once' most popular bands or game changer bands and I respect him for it.
Live by the sword die by the sword
I agree. He is a national treasure.
Diamond Dave Still Is a Legend!!! and So is Dave and the Foos! RIP Taylor!!! 🤘🤘🤘
I come here because I'm a Van Halen fan, but I firmly believe that Dave Grohl is a world treasure.
Agreed
It’s seriously hard to believe that someone as grounded as him can be worth $400 million.
What a awesome 2 songs!! Dave Grohl is so awesome and Dave actually sounded awesome and truly enjoyed this opportunity to join forces with Foo Fighters!! Dave Grohl YOU ARE THE MAN!!! He's like a kid in a candy store!!
Grohl is living the dream. Lucky S.O.B. gets to play with all his music heroes. : D
Neil Mcintosh And he played drums for KILLING JOKE too. ::sigh::
+DevilMaskMedia Luck has nothing to do with it... you're as skilled as he is PLUS intelligent enough in your marketing, you're gonna get to be with the legends. However, I feel like since David Lee Roth has REALLY lost his chops, Grohl was doing HIM a favor.
+Chris Mueller Intelligence, hard work, and talent are factors, but there is also an element of luck that he attained the level of stardom that would give him the ability to be in this position. Another big factor is that Grohl comes across as a very likable fellow. People enjoy being around him, and his positive, enthusiastic attitude.
+DevilMaskMedia LUCKY???????? Grohl is a SUPER musician BAR NONE. At this point he is doing these old gizzards a favor.
Super musician? Bwahahahahahahah. He's ok.
Does the audience know who that is. That's David Lee Fucking Roth. I know his voice isn't what it used to be, but he is still one of the greatest frontmen ever. Absolute legend. Doesn't need to prove anything to anyone! I hope my body looks that good when I'm 60.
💯❤💯❤💥✌👋🤚
I was just gonna say the same thing Chris. The man is the ultimate showman. I was lucky to see him on his solo Skyscraper tour with Steve Vai and company in the early 90s I think, and again on the VH reunion tour in 2007.
It's like the crowd went yaayyy... oh!
Hes SHARP..I think hes still capable of hitting all the notes ...on the money....but WHY? HEs done it already...When this crowds PARENTS were in the seats of that very Stadium...doing drugs they still dont want these kids to know about.
They know who he is...It was only 35-40 years...lol..
The best front-man in the history of front-men! GO DIAMOND DAVE!
Next to Freddy.
@@stephenhensley5631 and Axl rose
Jim Morrison wipes the floor with Roth.
@@MrDeterioration I’ve been a HUGE Doors fan, for 34 years. Jim was a great front-man. But DLR is the best. But hey, that’s just like, my opinion, man.
Freddy was the best but DLR is up there for sure.
A dream come true for Dave Grohl. He looks like a kid on Christmas morning.
No.. He & Taylor were more excited having Jimmy Page & John Paul Johns 💥
Ain’t Talkin Bout Love. Song from my youth. VH 1 was a seminal work. Roth is as much a legend as a genuine freak. Love it.
Look at all the smiles in that crowd!!! Diamond Dave...
the FOOs show much respect to DLR.. Very impressed
Watching this made me love Dave Grohl just a little bit more. He's got a big heart :)
DLR is the Bruce Willis of Rock-n-Roll. No matter how old he gets, he never goes away. He keeps on rockin.
I think a better way to word it is: he won't go away and should.
Actually not
Unbelievable! Walks on stage chewing gum and continues to do so through both songs, forgets half the words, and still ends up rocking it like only a legend can!
Taylor’s smile through this, makes this even better years later. He got that moment we all want of bands we love.
Yes!!!!
That's DLR for you! Forgetting half the words, singing above his register, talking in the middle of a song but at the same time, mesmerising the crowd and giving them a rocking time, is all part of his legend!
Half the fans inside there, are probably Roth's kids
🤩🤣😂🤣😂🤩
Your Daddy? PENDERO
:)
More like Grand kids!
Well played.... Best RUclips comment in years! LMAO!
I'm glad I saw Diamond Dave live in 1988...back then he was still one of best...
Saw them in 80, 81, and 82. Dave rocked the front but the band rocked the building
Man to see all the bands that I grew up with like Van Halen getting old and the fact we'll never see and hear them again like we did 30 years ago makes me really sad...
Makes me sad too.
I hear ya. Gotta be glad for past experiences though
Yeah, it's hard. I miss the 80's so much!
Takes 3 guitarists to sound a little like Eddie. 😊
Yup
The Foo Fighters, with 3 stellar guitarist, still can’t hold a match to what Eddie could do. I love the Foo Fighters for putting it out there, showing respect, and having fun!!!
@@richardwhite420 That’s what it’s all about. Showing respect and paying tribute. You don’t have to sound like the guy for people to understand that you loved him.
@Scott Williams Yea, he is such a good hearted dude, and plays Awesome gear......but I'm with you. The first album was something completely different than what he done before, Monkey Wrench was Awesome back in the day too, but his band just plays mediocre stuff the last 2 decades. Love Pat Smear from his Punk days, but don't care for the bands output as well.
Nobody can replace Eddie, Eddie fuckin`legend!!
Did any group of musicians look more happy. The Foos are just class.
It's been my observation that Michael, Alex & Eddie looked real happy when Sammy was onboard the VH train. And yes, I love the Foo's as well. Great musicians & music.
@@TheUmystifyme18 I agree with all the video performances of Hagar-era Van Halen. They seemed like a brotherhood. Whereas Roth era Van Halen it seemed like Roth acted like Alex, Eddie, and Michael we're mere sideman for his ego.
What you see above you in the video is people having a good time. What you see below you in the comments is people who for some reasons are not happy , it's OK.We still love them.
I was there!!! One of the best live shows I have ever seen. Definitely a once-in-a-lifetime event.
This should be the Super Bowl Halftime show!
I agree Ed. Won't happen though since the US recording industry keeps trying to shove that pop $hit down our throats....
@@mainoffender5557 that's why I turn off the half time show cause its like you said its total trashy garbage
Best comment
Good luck with that. They only hire booty shakers like J NO👎
Dave sang a higher percentage of the lyrics in this video than he ever did on any tour.
Aint that the truth!
They all get SO SICK of singing the same song 1000s of times. They HAVE to switch it up. Especially lone frontmen/women
No kidding!
I love how he isn’t doing any comb over and is just confident being himself at any age. He is so funny, you never know what he will say!
Yeah...ummm...he wore a wig from the late 80's until he cut his hair short. And see that huge scar in the back of his head? Hair transplant.
Being in Nirvana and the Foo Fighters is pretty sweet, but 10 minutes of pretending to be a part of 80s VH ... yeah thats something you'll never forget
+sublimeade Exactly! Perfectly said ;)
Gotta check them out at Wembley stadium with Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin. You see how much playing with them meant to the Foo Fighters. It was great stuff.
+sublimeade Roths been doing it since the 70s...pretending to be a viable part of VH..lol
omg..lmao!....80s vh was a party like no other! as was the entire decade....
+sublimeade Ironic that Grunge killed the Hair Metal bands and u see DLR playing with Dave!!!
DLR first record every spent my own cash on.The man is a legend.good to see him still swaggering..
It doesn't get better than this...this is so great!
Let me watch it one more time...again...and again...
This was flippin' awesome!...look at the smiling faces!!...those guys growing up,listening to Diamond Dave's music and now playing backup...a memorable night for the Foo's!!
All the foo fighters definitely enjoyed this moment
Awesome video! Look guys, Roth is an old man, worn out from all the shit he did to himself earlier in his life. He doesn't sing as much as he used to, so he is a little rough. Nonetheless, he is a legend, and the man deserves his applause. Great video - Thanks!
The dude is pretty healthy for all the shit he is done and works out a ton to this day.
He never had the alcoholism/addiction issues the VH brothers had. He's lived a pretty healthy life by comparison.
living legend, and yup, he is past his prime, but you see how great he must have been in prime. The attitude, swagger, looks, and sang well in his youth
Yeah...but he still looks good!
Sounding better than Axl.
Great to see Dave again, after all this years
Still one the best front man ever... Its difficult to imagine Diamond Dave Bald !
I think Velvet Revolver should give him a call. ...
SelectCircle
Lol! Yeah right, DLR wouldn't even make it past 1 rehearsal.
tparnelli Just keep the cameras rolling. That'd be enough. : D
and rock as we know it just died....
JOE FAQURSELF amen. I will never spend another penny to see or hear VH play live. RIP haha
Damn, my goosebumps got goosebumps hearing and watching David jamming with the Foo Fighters! Please do more!
This just made my night. Fucking epic. So good of the Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl to let David Lee Roth rock out like that.
More like the other way around. It seems like the Foo Fighters wanted to rock out with Dave
Nice. Diamond Dave actually put in some effort. Great Moment.
This is bad ass!! Dave rules!!!
As hard as it is to watch Diamond Dave right now, he was the ultimate front man for the ultimate rock and roll band of the 80s ( and beyond ). Long live DLR.
+patron40silver 100% right on
+patron40silver right!
David Lee was to van Halen what a match is to a stick of dynamite total ignition no one else set the stage like Dave
+Dodge King I totally agree 1000% In his day, He kicked ASS!!
They ruled the rock world in the late 70's and early 80's what a great time it was
Really nice of Dave and the Fighters to bring up David Lee Roth.... Dave's about 15 years older than the rest of the band but is still in better physical shape than all of them. Both Amazing!!
DLR is a legend. The man has been in one of the most successful bands in history and played with THE most influential guitar player of the late 70’s who DEFINED what it is to be a guitar player for that generation, not to mention the influence he and the band had on fashion, lifestyle, etc. no his stage isn’t as big as the sets they were one lined with walls of Marshall amps and huge stadiums lighting...but it’s DLR. And to be I the same stage with this man is a historic all event. He’s older. No denying that. Yup and still crazy - but that’s what we loved and still love about him. One of the best front men to walk on a stage and one who loves what he does and will until the day he can’t. Thanks for sharing this.
we get rusty as we age, but this guy was a monster in his prime, no wonder he was such a big star.
there's a reason they call him Diamond Dave! ... loved all that dancing!!
I feel happy for Grohl and the rest of the band sharing this moment
No one can say Roth isn't one heck of a showman, older and still going strong.
DLR SUCKS
His vocals suck now. His pipes are gone……
😂😂😂😂Going Strong😂😂😂
He's done. Youth is what it is. In his case as well as mine: Gone. Fun while it lasted. So many memories. Thank you VH for the memories.
holy smokes.. i would have gone nuts to see this LIVE.. my god..
What a JAM! These guys on that stage all look like kids smiling at one of their ROCK HEROES! So great! And DLR was FN great!!!! Full of life and gracious. Cheers!
Stallone got all the old action stars together and they had a great time with the Expendable series. Dave gets all the old rockers together and they have a friggin' blast.
And who ever did the mid air splits and martial arts onstage like Diamond Dave!?
Dave had swag before there was any.
+NeverOwned true story, long live dave he is a rock n roll legend
He stole his swag from Jim Dandy of Black Oak Arkansas.
Not swag just really conceited.
NeverOwned roth is a cock, posing fucker, its not about the music it's all about him, total wanker
Lee roth, ripped out his head on coke, he's chewing his cheeks as he's singing, the guy is a dick, a real heavy rocker like ozzy or lemmy would a ripped that stage up, not like that posing tosser roth, it's all about him, pure dick head
Diamond Dave still moves around like he always has! His singing has not been as fortunate, but he’s still great!
Bless Mr Roth....what a showman.
1:04 “Panama!” Foo Fighters with VH’s DLRoth...priceless!
Chris’ solo was kick ass.. & two Dave’s DO make a right 👌🏼
Two of the coolest Daves on earth on stage together.
thank u so much for the upload man!
What I love about this the most....Is the respect these guys displayed to a man who SHOWED them decades before them HOW to fucking rock and roll....NO apologies!!
This was Taylor’s every dream come true and you can see how deliriously ecstatic he is..and the other band members know it too, smiling at him throughout.
Dave's got a million story's, can't believe he's still with us .
Given how he smokes, NOT for long. Same shit killed Eddie.
Your vid is on Rolling Stone online magazine, dude! Because it is the best one!
Is there a cooler band out there than the Foo Fighters? These guys pay so much respect to the legends by always featuring a classic cover or as in this case giving an artist his due. Amazing respect to Dave Grohl and the Foos. Covid watching in Hawaii 10/28/20 😷🤙🏼
Two notes in...and you KNOW it's NOT Eddie playing!
Godspeed to the genius...we will NEVER see another like him again. Smile on EVH! 💔🎶
Will always always love David Lee Roth
When I was a teenager Dave was a black belt. Now I'm in my 50's and this guy has got to be a Master Sensei. He won't talk about it, but when you watch him on stage (he isn't doing it in this video) he has this certain core balance that I can't explain but it is amazing to watch.
Guy pushing 70 with a young man's swagger gotta love it.
he's 66 now. Was closer to 60 in '15
He looks like an old bald man waiting for a bus.
💎DLR my favorite frontman of all time! Much ❤️ to Grohl and the fighters of Foo but wish EVH and Alex were showing them how to play this!#EVH#RIP#🎸#🤘🏻#VanHalen👑
Never thought I’d see them sing together. Thank You guys. 👍😎🎸
Foo Fighters amazing.... and they must be enjoying this moment. Van Halen would not have been the same without Roth , his voice in early years was powerful and the vocals that made it ROCK!
Man, the Foos are like ambassadors of Real Rock and Roll!
I just love Diamond Dave
& the Foo Fighters just got even more cooler to my ears!
Happy birthday Dave ! Are ya gonna go do something with D.L.R. when his b'day rolls around in october.?!! Xxo
Anybody givin Dave shit just doesn't get it. Think about the life he's lived compared to yours.
He wins.
Game over.
+shawz10 DLR's 'been to the edge' and survived! Many ended up 6 ft under. If you didn't experience DLR VH, you'll never get it. It was an awesome time to grow up.
+shawz10 AMEN
+BHAKTI BROPHY -I totally get what you're saying, He is a bit goofy in his old age, but everyone looks silly compared to their glory days and that same whacky attitude was what made him great back in his day.
Main thing these commentators seem to forget is time waits for no one. We're all gonna die, but most of us haven't had as much fun as Dave has, on his way to the graveyard.
Legend, nothing can change that.
I remember him in the 70s so well and he still good today he is a legend
You just gotta love Dave. I dig how the older he got, the crazier he got.
When Dave Grohl introduced David Lee Roth and he comes walking down that...THAT'S ROCK AND ROLL SWAG!!
He is getting older just like the rest of us..but he still has it...the body..charm..looks..personality...gotta love him
he was born a lead singer
Despite all tha is being said here, he is hitting some serious full voice notes here, with a huge ammount of power, due lacks the air control...And, offcourse, Dave Lee Roth is awesome!
He is a living legend there so lucky to be rocking out with Dave I love it
Holy Fucks .. one of the best front men ever .. I know he's old now.. but David is awesome cool !!!
I missing Eddie's guitar though Van Halen one of the greatest rock bands i love them dudes just with Dave and Michael Anthony! They originals!
At first glance I thought Steve Martin was doing the wild and crazy thing from Sat Nite Live
Oh my god, this is spot on!
LOL man XD
Damn that's funny, but unfortunately true.
Damn that's funny, but unfortunately true.
HA! True. In the Cradle Will Rock video in 1980 DLR makes a lot of Steve Martin lookin faces.
Fuck that was amazing! Pat had a shit eating grin on his face the whole time!
Now that's rock-n-roll right there. The epitome of it. Nothing better.
I grew up in the Van Hagar era....
But have total respect for Dave... He was the pioneer and sometimes that's forgotten.
He's never changed.... He's always been the ultimate showman.....
And for that I will always love him ❤️❤️
Every family has a crazy uncle Dave who entertains at the family cookouts : )
you gotta remember DLR was 61 when this was shot and I don't think I want to be jumping around at that age like he use to.
Sammy Hagar 74 still has a better range than prime roth.
“You don’t pay me to remember the words, baby.” David Lee Roth
Dio Benedica Voi e David! ...L'ho capito solo adesso!...Migliaia di ore davanti ad i vostri video devono funzionare in qualche modo!...Suonate esattamente il disco!...Armonici compresi! GRANDIOSI! Grazie! Grazie! Grazie!
I’m sitting here watching this with a shit eating grin loving every second of this.
David Lee Roth was a great vocalist and showman....He also had a great radio talk show and even more important to the content and character of this man was he became a Paramedic...kinda wonder how many lives he helped save on the car back east...GSWs and full codes and cardiac arrests and more
Seriously, I never knew that. That’s why you should never medicate your hyperactive boys, just try and keep up!
I love the Foo Fighters and I think Everlong is a masterpiece. Not only is Dave Grohl a brilliant drummer, but he's seriously underrated as a guitarist. That being said, there are three (3) guitarists on stage, a bass player, a keyboard player and a drummer, yet they still can't keep up with the three guys from Van Halen. Listening to this, I really miss Eddie's playing.

How did I not know this existed? Thank you!
