Please tell me they did this part of the tutorial "how to auto-size type to the frame with data merge" in some other video! I can't find it anywhere if Andrew actually kept his promise 😀
Hello! Your video is very helpful for learning how to data merge. Although, when I tried to do so myself I kept getting the same error, "The selected data source has one or more empty field names. Please fix the file or select another file" and I can't seem to figure out how to stop getting this error.. any chance you know why?
Once you create your merged document, it will created a new document that is a ‘flattened’ version of the data flow with each entry being its own page.
can you data merge urls? If I need each data set to have a link to an external source can I automate that through the data set in excel or do I need to manually add a url after the data merge?

@@AdobeCreativeCloud In German and messy. I came up with my own faster solution. I create a text box and assign the URL field from Data Merge to the text box. I place the text box over the link icon ( or over anything I want the users to click on.) I resize the text for that URL text field using its own paragraph style to be tiny (Size does not matter). I then lower the opacity of the text field to 0 so it is invisible, but there. I run the Create Merged Document and all the pages populate. I open the Hyperlink tab and click on Convert URL's to Hyperlinks. Done. I now do this for documents with hundreds of records and works in seconds.
very informative video, and looking to learn more from you. Could i merge a set of hyperlinks specifically over a set of image icons with indesign. I have an icon of (buy online) at every page of my garments catalogue, and i need to merge every unique hyperlink(page of specified garment) with its respective "buy online" icon catalogue Thanks for taking care.
Hey there, thank you for your comment. Many users have requested a PDF export option in Illustrator. I encourage you to upvote this feature request on the Adobe Illustrator UserVoice forum: adobe.ly/3UZCO6e The Illustrator admin has explained that there isn't a true PDF Export since the software allows for editable PDFs with Ai-content stored within. While no clear solution has been found yet, the team is still hoping to find one. ^AS
Any idea how InDesign would perform using these features in a long document with 100s of images and 100s of merged text? I write 200 to 300 page documents that could literally have 300 merged images and 1000 merged text blocks.
Andrew! I was looking for a tutorial on data merge and found this. SUPER helpful, man. Thanks for making it happen. - Dylan

I'm trying to merge 80 addresses into a table. It will run hours and never finish. Despite that it will do 5 at a time. What's the point.
Hey, can data merge also convert Letters like ä, ö, ü. ? I had some problem with it. They will be displayed in a very cryptic way

Can data merged content be "flatten" to the document, thus removing the data connection once the multiple pages were created?

Thanks for this helpful video! Does anyone know how to change the color of all qr code when using a date merge?
Illustrator needs the pdf export option as it is common to send the files to an external printing company.

It could handle that just fine. It would be a massive file, but from what I know, there’s no limit to the amount of entries.
