    Spec Miata Brake Bleed MX5, Autocross. This video was a request from Annette who is going to tackle the brakes on her own. My method of doing d flush or just bleeding brakes.

    Your tip mentioning the farthest bleeding point being the Rear Drivers (Left) side is Gold! I've watched other videos and no one mentioned it. Truly Awesome Info.Thanks!!

    Just found your channel and wanted to watch and see how you do things to evaluate your videos. Glad to see someone on here NOT demonstrating what you DON'T want to do, plus you explain the "why" as well as the "what" needs to be done. I'll watch more because we can all learn new tips. Also, I just wanted to add that if someone wants to flush their brake system to replace old with fresh fluid, what I do is use a kitchen baster to suck the fluid out of the master cylinder and top it off with fresh before I start. By leaving just enough old to cover the bottom you don't risk sucking in air, and then with it topped off with fresh it's that much less fluid you have to bleed to get clean fluid coming out. Saves a little work. Thanks again for making great videos!

    OMG, I was wondering why I couldn't properly adjust my rear brakes, I have had them on backwards for years. Boy do I feel stupid. I switched them, everything good now. Your vid is priceless my man, thank you so much.

      @@aracing The car was purchased with the calipers on backwards so I never really thought twice about it till I replaced both calipers and something wasn't right. You mentioned your students bled a Miata for 3 days and couldn't figure out what was wrong, then you mentioned the proper position of bleeder nipples, yea, I said nipples, lol, I remembered that and kicked myself in the butt, I should know better. Even replaced both parking brake cables but we're talking about a 30 year old car too so it didn't hurt. Thanks again

    I just bought a NB miata with 75k miles a couple of days ago. The car is near mint condition, but the brakes needed some love. Your videos have been incredibly helpful.

    Thanks a ton was always doing brakes the old way lol this way makes it so easy and you can pump old fluid out quickly. Did my flush in like 10 minutes

    Hey Al! Thanks for making these, it means to someone like me that is new to working on my own stuff.
    I recently have been suffering from a softer feeling brake pedal in my non abs car, i figured it needed a bleed. I took it in and they told me the bleeder screw was seized but did not elaborate, is this something I can replace or do is a whole new caliper the only fix?

    Awesome video, and great channel. I cannot find any inofmation on how to connect/adjust the cable going to the caliper. Do you tighten the outside nut first then lock it with the inside not or is it the opposite?

    I work on my NAs alone. I've seen kits that have a metal check valve between two pieces of airline tubing. Then you take a large syringe and suck out the fluid. I already have the syringe for other draining tasks. Would this be good for this, or does someone else still need to hold the brake down?
    Do you fully remove all the fluid from each caliber, or just until the bubbles stop?
    Is this the same sort of procedure for hybrids too?

      you are on the right track. I have never used those special plugs. But I hear good things about them. I bleed till clean fluid comes out. Thank you for watching

    Hi, I have a question. My 99 miata been having a issues, when I drive for over 1 hr. the car would just shut off on me. It only turns back on if I let it rest for about 1 hr. I've change the crank sensor, cam sensor, spark plug and wire, new ignition pack new fuel pump and new fuel filter tand new maf sensor, trying to fix this issue and nothing. Today I went for a drive and after 120mins it turn off and I've been trying to turn it back on for about 5 years now and no luck. At times it sounds like it wants to turn over but noting. Do you have any suggestions.

    Hello, big fan of yours from Romania !
    I have an unusual issue with my Turbo 1.6 NA Miata. Suddenly last year i lost brake pressure until i reached the end of pedal travel, i tried everything, swapped three brake pumps, 1 brake servo, even tried another ABS Pump, did all the bleeding like in your video. With the car on lift and engine off the pedal is firm after bleeding. as soon as i put it back to ground and turn the engine on the brakes are again like before ( no brake pressure until the end of pedal traver ). If i try to brake two times, the second time the pedal is rock hard. I have BBK from NB SVT with all calipers rebuilt. Now i'm going to change the discs and install HEL Braided brake lines. Got any advices with my problem ?

      Forgot to write, brake pads are Hawk Performance with minimal wear and the brake fluid is coming out clean out of the bleeders

      how does the bottle method prevent the air bubbles in the other brake lines from foaming up while you work on them one at a time? Does loosening the stopper release the pressure and prevent foaming in the whole system or just locally to each wheel, meaning all wheels need to be bleed at the same time? Im prepping to flush my brakes myself for the first time and am curious about this if anyone in the comments could help that would be appreciated!

      All vehicles with juice brakes (hydraulic brakes) have bleeder screws.

    So I’m about to do this today for the second time, my brakes should feel firm right, not too hard? What does the brakes feel too hard mean? I know spongey/ soft is oxygen in brakes lines , but what about when it’s hard to push down on the pedal?

      well it should feel really firm when the engine off since the booster will have ran out of vacuum. If it is still too firm with the engine running I would check the booster and the vacuum that goes to it. Please note in 15+ yrs dealing with Miatas I have never had one with a bad booster.     Is it not true that doing a solo brake bleed, not having anyone to hold down pedal, that as long as fluid is in line going into bottle you'll be ok?
    I just replaced rear calipers, bled lines, even bled front and pedal goes to floor still, I can pump it up but I let it sit a few seconds and pedal goes to floor again. I do bottle method, no one to help me. Oh, I have a stock 91 Miata

      Yes so long as the hose does not come out of the fluid you will be ok. Sometimes when I have to bleed them alone, I find a stick or broom handle to hold the pedal down while im working with the caliper. I would try to have someone hold the pedal down then have all 4 wheels up in the air and spin them one at a time. if the rears spin with the pedal down you still have air in the rear system. and need to bleed accordingly. If the fronts spin your problem is in the front. same cure. Also make sure you have the rears adjusted with the parking brake off. Adjusting them with the parking brake on will give you a low pedal too. Send me a email with your number and I can call you with more advice if you need it. alangulo530@gmail.com
