  • Your brake calipers are constantly exposed to the elements, letting the seals and pistons get coated with all sorts of unwanted grime. Eventually, these components will need to be replaced to ensure safe and reliable brake function. In this video, Mike Usrey shows you the step by step process to rebuild your Miata Rear calipers using our quality rebuild kits from FrenKit.

    This is a very good step by step video. Well done. Last year I tried to rebuild a rear caliper for my 280zx but I couldn't get the very last mechanical piece out and I had a very hard time trying to get the rubber dust boot over the piston and seated correctly. I am now attempting to do this again, and this video will come in handy. Thanks again dude. Gotta get those pliers now

    Well done 😂 the rear brakes a weak point on my miata specially right side. I watched a few repair videos for miata your video siuts me good. The camera work is 👍. I put in refurbished calipers and now i rebuild the old ones. There are two mechanics on RUclips i learnd a lot from, john twist from university motors and the trailor fitter fom the landrover toolbox. 37 minutes are ok to start a saturday morning 😅 thank you.

    Have old 626 4tg gen and looks like it have exact the same model.
    I bought brand new disks and pads and after this video i definitely will buy a new kit's cos i noticed like the piston did not turn all the way back when release the brake. Very likely the prev owner is changed the pads only and i can feel how the sistem strug's tho open back, i can even hear how pads touching the disks till first several shocks on the road.
    So, that is the only video i need.
    You are an amazing instructor with nice talk slow and clear, step by step.

    Thank You! A brilliant breakdown of not just the rebuild, but for me identified several issues i didn't pick up when simply replacing the pads and disks... Re-build now due! Also well paced video, not a 10 minute rush through but also not so long as to put me off watching! Now subscribed! And really liked the only product placement noticable was for an Eci Friendly cleaning spray 🙂

    Great detailed video, thanks,- we're just doing my sons' Honda CRZs rears at the moment. The piston was seized on the left side , but managed to free it with some big waterpump pliers and unscrew it. Not sure if the adjuster is working properly, as it's pretty tight, so might need looking at. Always good to know where all the parts go before you pull something apart (orientation etc).

      Unfortunately, we don't have any advice for you there - we only work on Miatas/MX-5s, so we don't know what the CX-5 calipers are like. This particular video covers the earlier Miatas, so your calipers may be quite different.

    On sport brakes anyway, you will have to reuse your factory bleeder screws. The replacements in the Fren kits are the wrong thread pitch on both front & rear kits! Also no replacement copper washers are included in the kit for the parking brake adj. plug bolts or the banjo bolts.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  11 месяцев назад

      The bleeder screws was a known issue, and that should be fixed on all current kits. If you bought the kit from us, reach out to our customer support team so we can send you the proper bleeder screws that come with the current kit. The copper washers can be reused and don't have to be replaced, They are only helping to keep out dust, not sealing in brake fluid.

    That ebrake actuation lever doesn't come out with just removing the spring does it? My lever is sticking, but i'm not trying to go out and rebuild the whole caliper at the moment. That'll be a spring job or winter when i store the car for the salty season.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  8 месяцев назад

      The parking brake lever is held in place by the threaded rod under the piston, so it can't be removed until you've disassembled everything else.
      Check to see if the sheathes of your cables have any damage - that can allow debris to get inside and bind up the metal cable. You can also disconnect the cable from the caliper and actuate the parking brake arm on the caliper with pliers to see if it's the caliper or the cable that is sticking.

      @@FlyinMiataVideo my issue was last time I replaced rear brakes the adjuster wouldn't move the piston. I had to crack the line to get the caliper retracted enough to slide over 1 new pad and the better of the old 2. Does the kit come with a new adjuster, and is it possible to use air pressure to get the piston out and worry about the adjuster and threaded rod after the piston is out?

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Год назад

      @@kylelambert1672 Unfortunately the kit does not come with a new adjuster and since the adjuster threads into the back of the piston in the rear calipers, air pressure isn't going to work unless you are able to un-thread the adjuster first. Give our customer support team a call or email if you can, they might have some troubleshooting solutions or better answer your questions there.

      This caliper is from an NA/NB I believe. I have just dismantled an NC caliper and found it to differ from what's is the video. It has 2 larger circlips (in the piston and cylinder bore), and both have springs under them to compress.
      I've abandoned trying to refit the one in the bore.
