Android phones can not be charged while in otg mode.. it will burn the some hardware in phone after which you wont be able to use otg at all on your phone....
I tried it 4 years back... and learned it in a hard way..😂😂
But new phones might be capable of it.. as some samsung devices can be used with usb otg y cable which gives you option to charge your phone and use the otg simultaneously...

You can use any zener diode. Easily you can find it on mobile charger circuit

Yes. Without diode it can't work.
Phone deliveries 5V through OTG mode just like any charger adapter. You can use without diode.

The diode makes no sense if you input only 5v ..why you didnt connect the red wire from the usb also it could charge your phone same time
