+you suck the problem is that volvo trucks are for rookies who cant drive. such as urself. your conventional trucks look like tiny cars that get no respect. even a child knows what a classic truck looks like before he can even say daddy. your problem is u wouldnt know the first thing about driving a classic pete. and u said it....they look like trains..
BigTymin while the classics look nice, they are technological relics. The paccar brands even realized this and are slowly copying the Volvo - aerodynamics, driver comfort, ease of operation, fuel economy, emissions, etc.

As a former trucker, an automatic is weird.
Love that shifter feeling. For god sake where is the fun of being a truck driver after all? Going down highway after you just merged on it with your hand still resting on top of that shifter is just speechless.
Jeffrey D i understand the automatics used to be difficult on slick inclines. Not sure if still an issue.
Certainly doesn't look like the Peterbilt quality. Flimsy materials inside...what grade of steel is used on the chassis?

Lol, drove a Pete 2007 and made me feel sorry for myself every day I drove it. The only good thing had was the Eaton Fuller - Cat15 Combo. Drove for my friend a Volvo 2004 from IN - KY and cried when I handed over the keys.

I have been a trucker for 22 years and I think Volvo makes the best truck alot of people might not agree but you have to drive one and you will know what I'm talking about

I've driven a lot of trucks, KW, Petes, Internationals and Freightliners. A company that I used to work for bought several 2002 Volvos. I was hooked! They drove like big cars. If I had to spend my own money of a tractor, it'd be a Volvo.

in the uk we have 460 500 540 610 750 bph my dad pulls 44 ton with a 460 without the t cab nonsense it's probably a lot lighter and it pulls like a train in the UK we have 2 seats leather and a bet with 2 cupboard under 1 fridge one storage we have a few overhead lockers which are great 😄😄😄😄
+Aled Morris we get 600hp dd15 as well rare since mostly the usa has more ground to clear so comfort is more important then hp unless you live up north with the hills. i do envy the hp euro trucks get but you have to envy us for the interior space. most usa trucks are small Apartments
It would be cool to see this Rig on New Zealand roads as we do not have this model over here we have the cab over model they are the FH 12 & 16 with HP up to 700 I think and the FM 12 which is the low cab model..

I've driven 3 trucks as a truck driver. A.) 2001 Kenworth W900L, CAT 3406E engine, Eaton Fuller 13 speed transmission. B.) 2012 Volvo, D13 engine, Eaton Fuller 13 speed transmission. and most currently a 2015 Volvo 780, D13 engine, Eaton Fuller 12 speed automated. as far as towing goes, the Kenworth beat both trucks hands down. the 2012 Volvo had both towing ability and comfort, which is a good combo. it got up to speed quickly also. the new 2015, is basically only comfort. towing ability plain sucks. I was pulling a half loaded trailer up a 5% grade and it had to downshift 4 times just to keep from stalling. The Kenworth could pull a full loaded flatbed up a 15% grade and I would downshift maybe once. automated transmissions also shift and downshift through every gear, no matter the load weight, which adds a lot of time to take-off. in the manuals, drivers have the option to shift how they want to. example with a 13 speed on a full load, the driver can utilize all 13 gears but on empty or bobtailing, the driver could shift like an 8 speed or even skip more gears and only use like 6 or something.

Volvo in America isn't even Volvo. They own Mack and so Mach actually builds the trucks, Volvo puts their name on it. Before integrated electronic engines, Volvo trucks had the standard Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine, capable of 600 HP and 2,000 ft-lbs of torque. Once emissions became crucial, Volvo switched to the Cummins ISX engine which was rated at 450 HP and just under 1800 ft-lbs of torque. In 2010, Volvo developed the D13 engine (which is not to be confused with the DD13 made by Detroit Diesel). rated 445 HP and 1650 ft-lbs of torque, which is impressive but compared to other brands like Detroit Diesel, Caterpillar and Cummins, is not very good. Not even that, but their transmissions also. Volvo used to run Eaton Fuller which made 8, 10, 13, 15 deep reduction, and 18 speed transmissions. In 2013 Volvo cut Eaton Fuller and developed the I-shift 12 speed automated transmission, which is even worse. An Eaton Fuller 13 speed roadranger makes far greater torque than the I-shift, and the DD16 engine produces 650 HP and 2,200 ft-lbs torque. being a regen system, I have no clue how they do it because those numbers for engines haven't been seen since caterpillar's 3406e which stopped production in the late 1990's. Volvo's set up is not bad but compared to other manufacturers, it is not a prime semi truck

+Mitch S The I shift was introduced in 2001 here in EU... You guys don't get the current Volvo tech. I drive the Euro 6 Volvo FH, so I know it, and I saw several interior parts in this VNL from the old Euro 5 Volvo truck. Current I-Shift is a double-cluch 12speed gearbox that has no rivals, preiod.
Believe me, the D13/I-shift combo has plenty of rivals in the heavy-duty truck industry. Eaton Fuller's 13 and 15 speed transmissions blow the I-shift out of the water. The only reason the I-shift is more preferred is because of comfort and their ability to control the driver's actions via computer. as far as pulling goes, they are complete crap. a DD16 engine with an Eaton Fuller 13 speed will easily pull better than the D13 with an I-shift

Nice new truck, but not much has changed. Did Volvo fix the issue with the headlights? Lowbeam sucks, highbeam amazing! Also, has Volvo gone to automatic in all trucks? I like the 13 speed.
I prefer the volvo fh 16 750 xxl . His driving is accurate and comfortable.Its gearbox is second to none in the market not to mention its 750 hp . Look up Volvo's European versions. 750 HP 3,550 Nm is their biggest one.

You can take all that computer controlled crap in them and chuck it. The D13 is a gutless fuel pig.

I'd take a CAT C-series, cat 34 series or the detroit series 60 before any of these other computer controlled piles of junk any day though
