The 50-day and 200-day SMAs are conventionally used in determining crossovers, but are they the best averages to trade?
Exponential moving averages (EMAs), weight most recent prices heavier than earlier prices so they perform better overall than SMAs, which weight all prices in the timeframe equally.
In a study Among short- and long-term EMAs, The 13-day and 48.5-day averages produced the largest returns.
Buying the average 13/48.5-day “golden cross” produced an average 94-day 4.90 percent gain, better returns than any other combination.

Oh my god, you found the holy grail. I can't believe 95% of day traders lose money, when all they had to do was buy and sell when some moving averages crossed. Really the holy grail is to have a youtube channel that you can show perfect trades that already happened as you scroll by all the times when this this doesn't work and people still actually believe you. I thought this was a cord-cutting channel??? I guess day trading channels are trending more on youtube, so now your an expert day trader.

This strategy would work for simply buying shares too right? I'm using a TFSA account in Canada but I can only buy and sell shares, not options or puts. When the crossover occurs it seems to be a good buy signal as the candlesticks following the crossover are green.

To stay on the trade better you can use the 13 for entry on the 5m you can also use it on the 3m. But you can alway get in faster on the 1min then move up. Follow the trend of the day you can use the 8ema on the 15. But for this to work better you should learn levels even more. I use a similar strategy on futures but it can work on any ticker.

Thank you so much! This is awesome. How do you handle risk management with this strategy? E.g. when the trade goes against you right away. Do you use hard stops at all? Or do you just sell your option manually when the price crosses back over the 13EMA?
So I back tested this strategy for the last 60 days. With the exception a a few fake out it overwhelmingly works. I even confirmed each cross overs with other confirmations. However I lost money today even when a perfect entry. He is why. I got in spy at 439 but bought a out at 430. That killed me. The first cross over only netted me a small gain. If I had played in the money I would have doubled my money even with the small move that followed. Then I did not keep my 15% stop loss. Bid went from .40 down to .07. Then we had another huge bearish move. Gained all my losses back.. but I didn’t get out kept hoping on another push. Truth is I had a great push but I was so out of the money I didn’t get the profit. So this strategy works but don’t do stupid stuff.

Something I find really interesting, and also super shady... if you're looking at a 30m (or even the 15m) chart on $SPY, the 13/48 crossovers almost ALWAYS happen pre-market or after-hours.. when options trading isn't available. Speaking of manipulation. xD

First video showed MACD used as well. Is this not as important? It seems when I view it, it almost always is a precursor to the 13/48 crossover. Also, is there anyway to get into the play faster? On TD Ameritrade, there's a 15 minute lapse from real time. Thanks again for all the knowledge

In your SPY example, using the 5m chart, how far out of an expiration would you be looking at when you enter a trade? the end of that week? give yourself an extra week? Less than a week since its the SPY?

Most of ths small vs. long EMA will work the same way in trending market/stock. The issue is when there are overlaps in EMA. everything looks just simple once its done. and EMA is lagging indicator by the way.
