Wow, thanks! I too took the TT at Yogaville 20 years ago. The eye movements are the one thing I still do every day. It's not just for the eyes, of course. I find my whole brain and psyche relaxes! And the day goes so much better, with a lot fewer impulsive mistakes.

Thanks a lot! I have noticed improvement in my eyesight after doing these exercises. My eyesight tends to be better in the morning, but it worsens throughout the day.
+Ian Yeung I'm glad your experience improvements from the practices! See what you can do to maintain the way your eyes feel in the morning throughout the rest of the day by staying connected with good vision habits (breathing, blinking, shifting, relaxing, centralizing, etc.)
Hey Nathan, I just want to let you know that I appreciate your videos and all that you teach. Please keep it up, I would love to enjoy your online services but unfortunately I'm too young to be able to do it, but your videos alone help me out :)
Instead of right and wrong, they're just different. Maybe the way you used to do it was more in line with Yoga, and the way I teach it in this video is more in line with Bates. Both versions have their own set of purposes and benefits. Regardless, I am happy to hear that you have learned a new way to experience it! :)
Thank you so much for these instructive and illuminating videos Nathan. You have such a calming way. I improved my vision with the Bates method after taking a workshop with Meir Schneider in my 20s but recently became motivated to return to these practices to improve my vision further. I really appreciate you and your channel!
I love it when people have a history with this work, and then bring it back to the surface because there is really no limit to how much you can improve your vision!
I am so glad to find your channels. As you had many practice exercises and theory explanations. I will follow your videos one by one. Thanks for your sharing
Your videos ar always so relaxing to watch. I am mildly short sighted with astigmatism and dry eyes too. Recently I realised at 46, suddenly a little presbyopia set in. I got really upset. Too much electronics too and hardly took a walk :(. Now I am back to doing eye exercises every day and I really found that such a wonderful thing. I am enjoying them and they are definitely helping. Thanks for your video.
So glad you are starting to take better care of your eyes! One suggestion I would make is to not consider them as "exercises"... that word insinuates effort and strain, which is counter-productive when it comes to healing your own eyes naturally. I call them "practices" instead to make sure I'm keeping my focus on relaxation as opposed to "trying". Keep it up!
@@NathanOxenfeld Thank you so much for your reply. Yes, I will practice my eye exercises and relaxation. It's only fair since we do that to other muscles in our body. Thank you. :)
This actually helped to relax my forehead. Didn’t realise how tight it was. I have the beginnings of Strabismus at 57. I’ve noticed Bates doesn’t really talk about it much
Isn't it amazing how we can carry so much unconscious tension and strain around with us all day long without even being aware of it? And yes, Dr. Bates addressed strabismus quite extensively in his writings, but keep in mind he often uses the term "squint" rather than strabismus. Hey Chad, yep there is a student in our Better Eyesight League who really turned his diabetic retinopathy around with a dietary change and daily implementation of the Bates Method.
Is it common to experience dizziness or vertigo-like sensation when doing those exercises and also the torso turns (from side to side) featured in another of Nathan’s videos?
most usefull videos on youtube!! thank you a lot Nathan. just one question. can bathes methods cure hyperopia? it would be great. i'm 26 but i wear glasses since i was 4 so now that i discovered some training for my eyes i try to use glasses only when i read and when i use phone or pc. is this ok? bathes method and trying not to use glasses?
Ramon Homjak That's a great combination... spending more time without glasses and accompanying that time with the Bates Method and other relaxation practices. The Bates Method contains lots of ways to improve vision near and far. Dr. Bates was farsighted himself until he developed the method to reverse it.
Just did your yogic eye movements for the first time and boy did I notice how tense my eye muscles are!! For the past few years I've had a constant transparent kaleidoscope in the lower left hand corner of my right eye, no-one can explain what this is. I'm convinced its tension related. I will be doing these eye movements every day now. Do you teach one to one by any chance?
Whoah, that's interesting about the kaleidoscope. Yes, I have several private vision students that I teach one-on-one online at a distance over Skype from all over the world. A good starting point would be to schedule an initial consultation with me online sometime so I can get your complete vision history, explain my holistic approach, overview my different vision coaching options, and answer your specific questions. Hello Nathan, I'm from Russia and watch your videos with the greatest interest, thank you very much for them. And I'd like to ask you a question: What do you think about such exercises as concentrating your eyesight on the tip of your nose, on the point between your eyebrows (bridge of the nose), moving your stare from the tip of your nose to the bridge and vice versa and moving your eyeballs from side to side and up and down with your eyes closed. Can they be added to the standard Bates method?
Hi,can the exercises help pressure too in the eye? Thanking you. I have stopped wearing my glasses to try to help to make my muscles in the sides of my eyes better before the next visit for to see if you can see good too at the sides of your eyes.Thanking you for your answer.
Excellent teaching style Nathan. You give us much reason to be hopeful. Your information is very promising to me, for I have just discovered a blurriness in my left eye. My right eye is good (6/6), according to the refractionist. The blurriness in my left eye gets better when I view writing close to my eyes. I use the computer excessively, and as you pointed out in your other video, well into the night, and this caused all the complications that you mentioned. Will Yogic movements, along with the Bates method, help me regain clarity? Two months ago I had a fall, where the left part of my face impacted the paved surface of the street. But I don't remember experiencing this blurriness, until a few days ago. I was, not in fact not aware of any significant eye problem till that time.
Thank you for your response. It encourages me. I believe I am already experiencing a slight improvement. It's been only two weeks since I started implementing aspects of your teaching. May you continue to enlighten us.
When palming, do you have to keep your eyes closed? Or do you open them as soon as your hands are covering your eyes? Thanks for all the videos. I have bad eyesight and hoping for it to become better with these exercises.
Catherine Black My videos on RUclips are samples of some of the practices I teach in private vision training lessons. When I work with people online one-on-one via Skype I teach dozens of more advanced techniques that pertain to your individual situation. So to get the greatest results it is best to schedule some vision training lessons. You can find out more here: integraleyesight.com/services/online-vision-lessons/
A good starting point might be to read Dr. Bates' chapters on the cause of squint/amblyopia (www.iblindness.org/ebooks/perfect-sight-without-glasses/ch21-strabismus-amblyopia-cause/) and the cure of squint/amblyopia (www.iblindness.org/ebooks/perfect-sight-without-glasses/ch22-strabismus-amblyopia-cure/). Since squint (strabismus) can yield double vision, there might be some initial tips in there. From there, I would do lots of palming and visualizing, as well as a good amount of swinging and sunning. There are many more specifics, but that would require one-on-one coaching or guidance.
Thanks very much for all your videos and help. When we palm, should we keep our eyes open or closed? i searched for this answer but no one seem to talk about this.
Either is fine. A better question is should the eyes be moving or stationary when palming? The answer is moving. Whether your eyelids are up or down, you want your eyes to be free to move fluidly and easily in the darkness in response to your thoughts and visualizations. Do not stare while you palm!
The yogic eye movements can sometimes help with astigmatism. Also check out my video Reversing Astigmatism with Esther Joy Van Der Werf ruclips.net/video/Ahc9IaGdpXs/видео.html
Hiya, Nate: Could a person use a handkerchief to place over the eyes while palming to get an even darker environment? It's New Years' Day 2021, and I did not put my glasses on yet today. Is it okay to go cold turkey? I don't drive or work at the moment and can afford to go without them. I will palm during the course of the day. I love it. I have a hard time sleeping, so I'm hoping the palming will serve a dual purpose. Thank you for your channel.
You can "supplement" with a handkerchief or blindfold, but nothing will ever "replace" your palms in terms of their self-healing potential. So I'd encourage you to do both, your regular palming, and your modified palming. I think "weaning off" glasses is usually a better approach than quitting "cold turkey"... you can keep using your glasses during those times you absolutely need them, or would like a little extra clarity, but try going without them as much as possible, or trying weaker prescription training glasses.
Debby Shapiro The Bates Method can be a viable way to normalize intraocular eye pressure that you may be interested in exploring. I've worked with several students who have various manifestations of glaucoma. Feel free to set up a Skype consultation with me through my website www.integraleyesight.com if you're interested. Thanks for watching!
What about 'eye floaters'? They are common, but not continuous. They are often enough that I am aware of them, but not daily. They are more like monthly.
Floaters are pretty common, and usually nothing to worry about, just can be annoying sometimes. Keep in mind that the more you improve your vision, and the clearer you learn to see without lenses, you will get better at "seeing through" the floaters, and even if they are still there, you will hardly notice them at all. So just keep sticking with your relaxation practices and they may sort themselves out over time. Plus, drinking lots of clean water, improving your lymph flow and circulation, and doing lots of the swinging practices can help flush the floaters out over time. They can also have dietary connections, or a result of mineral deficiencies, so try to eat healthy and consider trying to supplement with silica, which can sometimes help decrease floaters.
I'd encourage you to watch some of my other videos that emphasize relaxation as opposed to exercise. I don't want you to think that vision improvement is about doing "reps" or "exercising" your eyes... it's a lot more about relaxing your eyes and replacing bad vision habits with good vision habits all day long. But I'm glad you're starting to pay more attention about your eyes and realizing that maybe stretching them a bit can be a helpful way to relieve eyestrain!
+Shaun81000 The yogic eye movements are a great way to start your day. Do them first thing when you wake up and your eyes will feel nice and stretched to begin your day.
Hello comment please when I am shifting my eyes very large or making them diagonal I feel my eyes are paining or A little water comes out of my eyes is that fine if water comes out of our eyes when paining or not? Answer plz thanks
Hi Nathan, I am very intrigued and feel hopeful towards your methods of gaining back ones eyesight. I am 59 and never wore glasses till I around my late forties starting with reading glasses but still had great distance and mid range vision. Then that started to go as well and now there is no distance where I have perfect or clear vision. Seeing close is the worst! I am trying very hard not to depend on my bifocals and wear mostly my weaker reading glasses when I have to, because I cannot read without their assistance at all. So my concern is I guess, that I am ruining all the work I am doing on my eyes to heal them as soon as I have to use my reading glasses . And also my long distance when watching a movie or tv. I live in a blurry world as much as I can stand which causes me to also feel disconnected to the outside world. Thoughts? :-)
Deni Silbert Wearing glasses certainly slows your progress down, but it doesn't necessarily ruin the work you put into healing your eyes. The main thing you want to keep in mind while you're wearing your glasses is to try and keep your eyes relaxed and to not strain them (which can be hard because glasses often force you to strain your eyes.) It's good that you are not totally dependent on your glasses and that you spend time without them. However, just going without glasses is not enough to start to see clearly again. You also have to practice the relaxation and refocusing techniques of the Bates Method. The practices I teach in these videos are just the basics, there are many more advanced practices that help you to be able to see clearly near and far without glasses. If you are interested in learning them you can either check out my book ( amzn.com/0986395307 ) or schedule some online vision training lessons with me via Skype.
Stress is the cause of vision problems, so see what you need to do to get rid of that feeling and instead feel more relaxed as you do vision practices. If the vision problems are not relaxing your eyes and mind then you might need to modify them a little bit to make them more comfortable or relaxing for you. You always want to be avoiding stress and strain.
Thank you for your videos, I have had one cataract removed ☹️ and now have ptosis in that eye lid (not occurring directly after surgery but same eye) Do you think these exercises can help restore the droopy eyelid?
Yes, as my vision teacher Dr. Taber told me over and over again - the Bates Method is not just a way to improve your eyesight... it is a way to achieve healthier eyes overall. That means better blood circulation, better lymph flow, greater energy flow, brighter eyes, a more positive outlook, easier gentler blinking of the eyelid muscles, more lubricated eyes, healthier tear film, less eyestrain, less mental strain, better dealing with stress, and much much more!
Dear Nathan My kid 6 years old has -7.25 in right and -5.5 in left eye. Could you please tell where to start, whether he need to wear glasses while doing these yogic movements? Thanks Satish
Hello, your child should not wear glasses while performing vision practices like the yogic eye movements or the Bates Method practices. Glasses should be worn when your child needs to see clearly or needs to perform a more visual activity. When possible, they can try going without glasses or wearing weaker prescription training glasses, as long as they are able to stay relaxed. Straining or stressing at all without glasses or with weaker glasses defeats the purpose.
Hey nathan nice video. Would you recommend that while we're doing the eye exercices, especially the ones in the beginning, we focus our eyes on a certain object in the direction our eyes are pointed at (for example the top of a tree, then the ground (during the vertical movement))? If yes, at what distance should said object be from us?
Yes that can be a helpful strategy, either using a physical object that is perfectly vertical, horizontal, or diagonal (you can experiment with all different distances, near, middle, far) or using a mental image of a perfectly vertical line, horizontal line, or diagonal line, once again at different mental distances... imagining the line 3 inches from your nose, 3 feet from your nose, 30 feet from your nose, 300 feet from your nose...
Yes, you can incorporate crossing your eyes into the Yogic Eye Movements too. You can either look toward the tip of your nose, toward the center of your forehead, or simply straight ahead while crossing your eyes. Just like with the eye movements demonstrated in the video, only look as far as is comfortable without going too far in order to avoid any type of strain. Relaxation should always be the goal. Crossing your eyes is actually a very helpful practice to maintain clear vision up close and prevent convergence issues in the future. I'll try to make another video demonstrating the crossed eye version soon. Thanks for watching!
I would start by listening to my conversation with Esther Joy van der Werf about astigmatism - ruclips.net/video/Ahc9IaGdpXs/видео.htmlsi=WFSJ0llqj7KHNG4z

I have like 10 more days before school and I am at home plenty of time
Nathan, could you recommend a method of how to treat ‘double vision’? Thank you 😊
A good starting point might be to read Dr.
I heard you mention the Ashram. I that Yogaville in Virginia?
Thanks very much for all your videos and help. When we palm, should we keep our eyes open or closed? i searched for this answer but no one seem to talk about this.
Either is fine. A better question is should the eyes be moving or stationary when palming? The answer is moving. Whether your eyelids are up or down, you want your eyes to be free to move fluidly and easily in the darkness in response to your thoughts and visualizations. Do not stare while you palm!
Hey nathan plz start some classes in mumbai india
Will this reduce astigmatism?
The yogic eye movements can sometimes help with astigmatism. Also check out my video Reversing Astigmatism with Esther Joy Van Der Werf

I have been not wearing my glasses for this 5days and doing suning Palm ing
@@NathanOxenfeld Thank you.
Beautiful, thanks. Really concerned as Xalatan eye drops have not reduced my pressure. I have glaucoma. Any advice really appreciated.
Hi i am watching ur videos can sunning be done on 4th floor
I have plenty of time can I know if I do Bates yoga u taught very long period of time like 3hour a day will it helps
3 reps in and my eyes hurt! I guess I need to not go too far up or down. Crazy how much you don't realize about taking care of your eyes!

Thank you. I will look into them.
Can I do these exercises after as soon as I wake up or do I have to wait for some time.
What type of exercises should I do in order to improve long distance vision?
Swinging, Sunning, Palming, Near to Far Shifting, Vision Stretching, Nose Drawing, Centralizing, and Eye Chart Practice.
Hi Nathan,
I am very intrigued and feel hopeful towards your methods of gaining back ones eyesight.
Nathan Oxenfeld I read on your website that an ebook version was available, but couldn't find out the buy button, please help
Can we do after mrng walk
thanks for your videos. but i feel like stressed when doing them
Stress is the cause of vision problems, so see what you need to do to get rid of that feeling and instead feel more relaxed as you do vision practices.
Dear Nathan
My kid 6 years old has -7.25 in right and -5.5 in left eye. Could you please tell where to start, whether he need to wear glasses while doing these yogic movements?
Thanks
Satish

Thank you!!
hello, do u ever let your eyes cross? with the eye exercises? can u do another video letting your eyes cross? thank you Steve
Can it help astigmatism?
