I'll never forget shaking tosin's hand and him asking me "this is your first concert?!" back in 2012 and seeing where he is now. Such a wonderful experience I'll never forget.
We're blessed to see such talented Guitarists in this era we live in right now, Plini, Yvette Young, Mario & Erick, Jake Howsam Lowe and Stephen Taranto, David Maxim Micic, Sithu Aye...I could go on for awhile but AAL is like the boss above them all in my opinion. You know you are a true legend when all your albums are timeless and can still hold up in any time period, you can go on a long hiatus and people are ok and not ok with that because what you have made already are a masterpiece that can hold you until forever but still makes you yearn for more at the same time...that's AAL.
When I learned trumpet in 7th grade, my teacher taught the ‘economy of motion’. Watching Tosin pick, I clearly understand what my teacher was talking about.
Very good video mate ! Your analysis on Tosin and Javier was absolutely spot on, and very cool that you mentionned their side projects (including T.R.A.M which are the initials of the four members of the band, just some additional trivia). However, I felt like it was missing out on the drummer (being a drummer myself this might be a bit biased) who is an integral part of the trio and elevates the melodies Tosin and Javier bring up. Talking about Garstka could have led you to some further insights on how the band's sound works, and you even could have talked about some other very talented guitarists Gartska jams with (Josh de la Victoria for example, search up Kepler if you dont know about it already !). I subscribed on the spot, I can't wait for more prog metal deep dives, I'd love it if you worked on Porcupine Tree, Intervals or even Dream Theater ! Amazing job :)
Thanks for the criticism. I didn’t want to dive too deep into Garstka because I didn’t want to disrespect drummers since I really don’t know much about it but I definitely could’ve addressed him a bit more. I LOVE to watch talented drummers but my drum knowledge goes as far as the movie Whiplash embarrassingly. Josh is an incredible guitarists as well! Thanks for the sub and comment :)
I must say that I'm really emotional about this band and it's music. My favorite instrumental modern progressive band 😌👌🏼 This is a very nicely done video and highlights really good stuff about the progress of the band most of which I wasn't even aware of. So, Thank You for making this 😌🙌🏼
Great video. Although being a music lover for all my life , I did not know about tye new styles or bands in the context of new metal, trap or math rock. Thanks to you that changed. Your videos are informative and entertaining. They deserve millions of followers. Keep up the good work!
Really enjoying this, man. You style is well balanced between formal documentary with in-between jokes and reliefs. Maybe it's your charisma as well but your videos cut through like butter. Please keep making them, much love.
Dude I love this videos, its like the before they where famous but for prog, keep it going man im here for it! I suggest doing Intervals (Aaron Marshall) next
Great video I was always curious about their early careers I didn't know Tosin was in a metalcore band makes sense tho it seems like every crazy guitarist does as you said, Solid editing and good voice over keep on going man you will keep growing as long as you don't stop music channels are going crazy right now. P.S. A video like this on someone like Tim Henson would be cool not the most original idea but just a thought
I think you're right about Mestis - Eikasia being their top album But I'd also like to shout out the Basal Ganglia album as well for some absolutely pristine pieces, like Olvidala
Well, this is a nice video from you! I'm not AAL's biggest fan, but, since I'm a keyboardist myself and since I'm into rock/prog genre the most, I should say they're a true inspiration for everyone. However, I'd like to mention a little detail, although a fan of rock/metal music, I don't wanna sound like a nerd or something like that, but Rise Against is not metal. Anyways, great video. Thank you for recommending Ando San, you and he have such fresh and interesting musical stories to offer.
I actually have heard people hate on AAL and tosin for switching to fishman pickups and ditching ibanez. I don't necessarily agree but I can understand someone maybe liking the sound of the joy of motion more than the last 2 records.
Intricate melodies like that are a struggle for me to play since I’ve only played in 4/4 my whole life. I’ve been trying to learn thumping on and off for a couple years but can’t seem the grasp the complete concept. My thumb really was not built for it
@@monfloral yeah I am far from “good” at it. I didn’t know anything other than simple 4/4 until I heard DGD and Polyphia. And it hurts a lot since I don’t have Callouses on my thumb. But i try to do what I can’t till I can even if that doesn’t alllways work 😂 but if u ever wanna jam lemme know! None of my friends are into this stuff so I’m just vibing🤘
holy shit i had no idea Tosin was in a band with Eric Moore....The debate on whos a better drummer, Eric or Matt, is a very open and valid debate... the gospel chops dont lie..
@joshchristian8598 0 seconds ago Wow this was a great video ... and on so many levels, both the AAL legacy story but also your work. Well done!!!! I learned a lot and am from the era of early guitar shred expression. Im staying with it till the end and its really wonderful watching the progression of our beloved instrument ....
I literally sat here for 5 minutes trying to pronounce it via your instructions. And surprisingly, I managed so thank you. I can now stop saying it wrong 💀
I’ve only done a speed listen of it so I can’t rank the album just yet but I LOVE Joy of Motion along with a couple songs from Madness of Many. Parrhesia definitely has some bangers though from what I’ve listened to
Great vid man! Love that you mentioned all the previous projects and bands, there's alot of cool stuff to unpack there. Your guitar playing is lit aswell, keep grinding brother. Btw I've actually started uploading my own vids recently, I was wondering if I could get some feedback on them from a fellow Polyphia fan?
I think that Tosin overuses harmonics and tapping as do most instrumental metal guitarists. And the fact that he has to jump back and forth between a clean sound and a metal sound makes his music just too cliche.
I'll never forget shaking tosin's hand and him asking me "this is your first concert?!" back in 2012 and seeing where he is now. Such a wonderful experience I'll never forget.

Thanks for using their best album in the thumbnail cover
@Shadrach Reid OF COURSE!!! The Joy of Motion is a classic!
When I learned trumpet in 7th grade, my teacher taught the ‘economy of motion’. Watching Tosin pick, I clearly understand what my teacher was talking about.
Great presentation of the kings 🤘🏼
Amazing video! I’m seeing them next November, can’t wait!
I love these videos, man. It really elevates the desire for people in this space to grow by showing dedicated fascination toward the icons
@Jordan J thank ya! I really think today’s instrumental guitar music is something special
great video, inspiring. Thanks!
Just ran across your channel and love it. New sub!

Thank you so much for creating awareness for AAL, they totally deserve acknowledgement, much more than they already have.
great video
I've never listened to their music but now I will
Great interesting content man!
best musical group ever
Very nice content and quality!! Totally enjoyed!!💜👏🏾
great video! the outro to inner assassins is still one of the prettiest things i've heard
That outro would give me chills
Y’all have to see these guys live. Honestly best live performance I’ve seen and I’ve seen great stuff.
I just discovered this channel and is great :D

Nice video man. Just found your channel a couple days ago and I like it. I checked our your Spotify too. Keep at it, you have talent

@Mihai Romano I try so hard to do just that and you have no clue how great it is to see the videos being well received. More coming FOR SURE!

YES that’s exactly the style that I was going for. Thanks for the suggestion!

Much appreciated bro thank you! I’ll be sure to take that idea into consideration
Since their first album it's been my gym sound track and my 3 hour daily commutes.
CAFO is one of the craziest songs I heard in my life.
Yeah! He knows what he's doing
idk why more people aren't unhealthily obsessed with tosin abasi
I think you're right about Mestis - Eikasia being their top album

Lit
0:55 I see what you did there ;)
How do you not talk about Garska?!? He’s an absolute beast on the drums man
T. R. A. M. Is criminally underrated
Once I thought the likes of Tosin was very complete, until I saw Mateo Mancuso or Max Ostro, monsters of clean technique
You need to cover Tesseract man. Acle is crazy. I have no idea how he writes these riffs.
Thanks for the suggestion! At this point I think I’ll just cover all the bands HAHA
Hey this is pretty dope. Very informative. Do you play stuff like this yourself? I struggled to learn thumping 😂😂

Tobin is the next evolution of guitar players. Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Tom Morello (yes he pushed the instrument into a new area), and now Tobin
Garstka, not Gartska.
It’s pronounced like a snare- hihat-snare fill 😅
I literally sat here for 5 minutes trying to pronounce it via your instructions. And surprisingly, I managed so thank you. I can now stop saying it wrong 💀
Tosin is indeed a god, but I have to admit, Parrhesia is their best album to date and Matt is the king on this one!
I’ve only done a speed listen of it so I can’t rank the album just yet but I LOVE Joy of Motion along with a couple songs from Madness of Many. Parrhesia definitely has some bangers though from what I’ve listened to
