  • Today we install the electrical. The insofast insulation and framing created some challenges in the build but luckily we know what we're doing...at least 50% of the time. If electrical is not something you've done before PLEASE consult an electrician!

@@ContainingLuxury Lemme preface this by saying I'm 23, have a decent job, on salary, but I live with my parents still. I could move out now and kind of want to, but my options right now include a house or an apartment and those are just not financially viable IMO. Then I went to dome homes, seemed like a huge headache, then container homes. Containers definitely seem to be the way to go for people in my age range in my opinion, atleast financially.

Tell your sparky bud to watch some videos on wiring ICF &sips. If you're not using rings, screw the boxes off to the plastic nailing strips so they don't come loose over time. If you know there are fat cable pulls, router the back of the foam first, or if that isn't done, then use a long flex bit and Fish stick, and at least straighten your cable and bend a decent head on it.
You can also router, hot knife, chainsaw, or my favorite a cordless sawzall with blade cut to length in order to make a channel from the front. Then SPF it closed after inspection. And trim SPF with a hot knife potato peeler style instead of shanking the guards

Loved the vlog! Insofast needs to take your advice, if they want to sell more product. If you can't make the raceway large enough for multiple wires, then at least make it easier with sleeves inside the raceway!

why not run the electrical under the container and punch thru the floor? against code? You could also possibly snake some runs thru the square tube channel at the top of the container or in the well on the bottom of the side of the container where the forklift points are

I am thinking InSoFast would still be good for doing the walls. That way you loose less space on the walls, maximizing the usable width of the container. The containers are so narrow to begin. I believe framing to ceiling would be the way to go. It would all all the electrical to be run overhead, and only the end run coming down the walls to each switch or outlet box. And it would allow for additional insulation to be run on the ceiling. Or perhaps run it underneath the container in the same manner, and then insulate and enclose under the container.

if you stud out a container you are going to lose a shitload of interior space. it gets smaller and smaller and smaller pretty soon you can touch both of the walls . also your non-insulated studs are going to conduct heat/cold right into your space. there must be smarter ways to get some those runs in the box before you put in the insofast. Building a dropped ceiling would also increase the cost and decrease the interior space

consider consulting a electrician like myself that thinks outside the box and has interest in said projects .. like insofast is premeditated and engineered.. same with electrical... raceways need to be considered as well as load calculations.. ive wiref connex boxes as far back as 1990 as weather stations shipped to greenland ... the floors come up for one ... framing and insulation will need to adapt to electrical plumbing hvac.. a torch n piece of pipe heated will condense the foam to then fit over raceways of conduit wich has much more versatility and a much better insulated wire that will endure time and elements... im in va but would love to get involved in such prefab ... after 38 years in electrical and was taught pride n craftsmanship first and as i look back and into the future quick .. cheaper..faster..because a GC is more concerned with the lipstick n dress put on the pig instead of the longevity of the creation because of the legal warranty lengths and the answer for bullshit fails is yes products and procedures have changed since that time....if it cant be shipped abroad as it was in its prior life not just handled like an egg when the desire comes to relocate theres a terrible bottom line for the consumer... the possibilities for better product is in existence om sure windows and doors could be produced with proper rubber to install as the insulated panels were... but the insulated panels dont seem to have consideration of anything but a folded metal background ... yes i have ranted on but i see this process as one time offering ... to renovate in few years would be more costly then to start fresh

would it help if you warmed up the romex a whole bunch so it is more pliable? you could put your roll in a tin trash can with a lightbulb mounted to the lid to warm it up. (Use the same can/light to warm up all of your glue ) also use a lite lubricant to help the romex slip thru the foam channel

Would it perhaps be easier to run the wiring through the channels before installing the insofast to the wall? Insofast has a video where they duct taped panels together horizontally before gluing to the wall. Seems like those 2 techniques might work well together to address the issue of the difficulty in snaking wire through the tight channels.

If you had an electrical plan/layout before you insulated could you have run the wires as you were putting up the insulation blocks? It seems that it would be easier running through one panel then 3 or 4. Label each romex so you knew what circuits were once you were ready to hook up to the breaker panel.

Dan Doe thank you! And good question, being that they are so small and the impact windows we use down here in Florida have pretty large gaps in the bottom track there are enough little escapes between that and running the air conditioner that it stays pretty fresh. Then when it’s not 10,000 degrees outside opening a few windows brings in a great breeze

Is a 50AMP service enough for most single container units. I'm looking at a 40ft. With a mini split a. A big workroom with normal lights and outlets possibly a fridge and a small room with a few incubators for eggs the plug into a normal 110. I debating running a simple RV power tower out near it. With a 50 AMP circuit with a 50 and 30 and 20 amp connections in it. Then having something like you have here that just teachers the container into 50AMP. or was just gonna run a a 100 AMP outbuilding service I to the panel. Thing is I kinda want to be easily considered a 'temporary' moveable structure. I just don't know if 50AMP is enough to do what we want.
