Hey Gary, keep thinking about anything other than the swing when you're playing! Thanks for watching and thanks for supporting the channel. Incase you didn't hear I released the Tropicana Golf ball this week. I've been playing this ball for the past 4 years and love it. Its a premium ball at an affordable price. Hope I have your support with it. Here is the link where you can check it out. Thanks in advance. -Jimmy tropicanagolfshop.com/products/the-new-tropicana-ball
A tip to try...get a sharpie and put an alignment mark on the top of whichever putter you choose. Helps me start the ball rolling over a spot on line. Your distancé control is really good!
Sounded like you really want it to be the Ping. One observation: follow the Jimmy rule of keeping your head down and don’t peek to see where the ball is going. 👍🏻👍🏻
Good luck on your putting journey. I’m going to take it with you because I need to shave strokes as well. Like you, I have a soft spot for Napa putters but I know I do better with my Ping Zing and always go back to it. Confidence is huge with putting IMO.
I bought a beautiful Cleveland "center shafted" putter in 2024, mallet shape, milled copper face about 3/16" thick. One of my golf buddies says, "why aren't you using the Cleveland?". I said, "Because I haven't practiced with it", but that got me going on working with that putter at night. I live on a golf course in the midwest and I can work on my game daily, except about 1 or 2 months in the winter. Mis Amigos y yo went to an away course. They have pure greens there. I shot 75 that day because of my putting and chipping. Should have been an 82-84 based on my not too good long game. I knew if I could find a good center shafted putter that I could make it work for me. Your stroke needs a little more grooving, Jimmy. It's pretty grooved but I think you can tighten it up a bit. I saw a couple of your longer putts where you took it outside and pulled across it. Long ago I chose the "open door, shut door" method of stroke because it feels natural to me and a lot of great putters have done it this way. Under pressure, I have a tendency to take the putter outside and come across it like you do. I try to feel my right elbow stay lightly touching my right stomach and, although difficult try to see the putter swinging inside a bit on the backstroke.... ultimately it's all in the noodle. I believe my brain is making micro adjustments when I am standing over the ball and something doesn't quite feel right. I can't believe how good your long game is!
In watching you putt, you have a straight back / straight through putting stroke. You might want to try a face balanced putter rather than the toe hang styles that you are trying? You may find it far easier to judge line and speed. Great content and I enjoy all your videos.
That replica putter looks like the vintage Tonney Penna putter. I lost it when a friend was supposed to be helping me find homes for a lot of my vintage Wilson and Hogan blades, but he ended taking a vintage Wison 8802, my vintage Tonney Penna, and a hand full of nice Titleist wedges.... I thought I might not have much time left because I am in the battle with stage 4 Lymphoma, but now I wish I had those putters back because my odds of being around for awhile may be better than I initially thought.
I also used the Ping (still have it) but was missing left and right a lot even if it felt great. I have changed to a Scotty Cameron with a thick grip and putting at under 1.5 a hole now. Saw a big difference in distance control with the thicker grip. Out of your 3 I would go with the wilson..
I never like these “which do you think I should use” questions. It is so personal and confidence and trust matter and that comes from practice and consistency. I like the way you putt. I think the issue is not which putter, but which one you chose to love. Just watching, the 8802 seems to make you smile a little more. But 4 putts each at two distances would not be sufficient for me. I’m doing the same test at home this winter. My old 1997 Zebra, my Ping Zing and my Guinness are each in my winter contest. Some days one seems better, then the next day a different one feels better. I’ve been playing 9 with one, then the back nine with another. If I had to grab and go right at this minute, the Ping will go with me. My decision will be by Christmas. For me, you need to just play a round with the best two. This week one of mine will be dropped. If it’s the Guinness, I’ll just drink Guinness and Miller with my friends, and choose between the other two for golf. Once you select, don’t look back. Look forward to the next chance to putt. But I enjoy your golf, your attitude, and the help I’ve gleaned from your growing experience.
Putt with the one you like, stay with. From my perspective, the Ping was the closest on the distant. You need to work on your speed inside 10ft, you just missed with it because of speed
I understand that PGA tour pros average “80 from 5 and 50 from 8.” That is, they make 80% of their 5-foot putts and 50% of their 8-foot putts. So, making 75% from 6.5 feet for an amateur looks pretty great to me.
I would say the basics.Alignhment, stroke(not push or pull).Grip.If the fundamentals are great, then you should improve fast.Because your distance control is great, your rythm also.Saludos desde España,gran canal.
Thanks for all the great videos! My opinions : 1. I think you are not keeping your head still long enough. 2. On the 25 ft. Putts I think you are aligned. a little too far right and cutting across it with your stroke. However, you certainly made a lot of those 7 footers! And, your distance control on the 25 footers was very good I thought. Dave Pelz says we should hit/stroke the ball to finish about 17 inches past the cup to have the best chance of keeping the ball on line. Seems too far to me, but he’s the scientist that has studied it. I think you did best with the Tropicana blade putter, but in my opinion you need to go through the trial for more than 1 day . Good luck! I’ll be watching.
Jimmy please you have great hands set up like you showed in the video and use your hands and wrists by doing a pop stroke just like Bobby Lock great video use the Wilson
@@donaldfletcher7213 I am not familiar with Bobby Lockes style other than I think I read somewhere where he actually even "hooked" his putts. I am familiar though with how Johnny Miller used to talk about the "pop stroke" all the time. I have used variations on that stroke...it can get a guy out of a slump during a round especially if the greens are choppy.
Ok so from 20 feet it is unrealistic to think any would go in. So criteria for judging them was distance control. Which one had the best I.e. closest grouping from the hole? So I would go with the closest long grouping of the Tropicana or Wilson.
Choose any of the three and work with it repetitively and you will learn the putter. It’s the Indian not the arrow. Putting is hard. Fast greens slow greens up hill down hill. How much break. I’m going to follow this and see what I learn. Keep up the good work.
Watched the whole video 3 times on another device. It looked as though you were turning your hands with the Tropicana & Wilson Putters, but you were straighter with the Ping. I say putt with the Ping.
No one putts with the old standard blade anymore and moving away from the anser style as well but I like a blade and the offset of the anser style allows for control Jackie Burke used to toe putt likening it to more control like holding a pencil by the tip Quite frankly for lag putts I would try looking at the hole If you underhand a bean bag do you look at the bean bag? At the dart? At the football? Speith did it for short putts but I think distance control is better with long putts and your method is best for the short ones My two cents
@@johncox3712 I found an old Toney Penna years ago at a second hand store. I liked the look, it look almost Identical to Jimmy's replica putter. I'll be damned if I didn't start immediately putting better. But I just used it for practice at night when I'm walking my dog on the course...hit a few shots, chip a few, putt a few. But, you're right most guys are using those big contraptions (have mostly gone away from the old heel shafted "flange style" and the "bullseye style" putters....I just can't get myself to use one of those even though I recently putted well with an Odyssey 2-ball. It felt like cheating. I used to like the Ping Answer/Cameron style, but now my go to putter is a copper faced, mallet style, center shafted putter

Ping… thanks very much for your work at teaching me!!
"Torn between two putters feeling like a fool - Loving both of you is breaking all the rules "😂
Nice! 70s rewind.
A tip to try...get a sharpie and put an alignment mark on the top of whichever putter you choose. Helps me start the ball rolling over a spot on line. Your distancé control is really good!
Putt the one you like best and feel most confident with. Liking the club is 80% of the battle.

Are you giving equal opportunity to each club ? Putting that many times from the same spot you’re getting a better reading on the green???
I would practice with the Tropicana putter. Would you consider a mallet putter? Or even a different handle position?

All things being equal, use the Tropicana. It’s part of your personal Branding.
Looks like they all made the Jacuzzi! 😊

This is only way to get ahold of you! Are you going to restock cigar holder??
I think the Pink is the one, the more you use it the better you’ll putt. You seemed to like that putter!

You used blade only try a mallet style
I think its going to be the putter you are most comfortable with.

Jimmy, why don't you ever line your ball up with the line on the ball? It gives you a better starting point, just my opinion
Watched the whole video 3 times on another device. It looked as though you were turning your hands with the Tropicana & Wilson Putters, but you were straighter with the Ping. I say putt with the Ping.
Try the 8802 first, stroke seemed smoother.
You need to get a 69 putter
Use a fat grip. Spider. Try that. Dr Gus Greenfield approved!

Seems like it's the ping.
ping. you kept saying how good it feels.
Your left shoulder may not be square. Look like you slightly pulled your putts.
Get a LAB golf putter Jimmy

I know it is the puttee and not he putter. I just ordered the 69 degree blackout wedge and 2 of the 69 putters. Please give the 69 putter a chance.
" Keep your head down "
Ping! You obviously liked it better. You weren’t bad with it. Stick with the ping, learn it and use it.
Ping, you like how it feels
What happened to keep your head down ?
1st one
Lol. Whats the name?
Spoiler.....
Tropicana putter.
How do you line up your feet? Along the hole? Directly at the hole?
Ping.
Use a fat grip. Spider. Try that.
Ping
Ping. I think your set up is mucked up. Have the ball outside of your eyeline a little bit. Trevino in his hey day had the hands ahead of the ball.
Use the one made for you. End of story.
Dumb ask ! It's Not the Putter !
Ping
