I have been filled such that my heart swelleth and my tears spilleth over. I have had the opportunity to really FOCUS on all of these things taught today. Six months ago I began an interesting episode in which I have been gifted with much time in solitude as I have gone through chemotherapy, radiation, and three surgeries. I have most especially embraced President Nelson's invitation to keep covenants then seek and expect miracles. I witness that I have, indeed, experienced many miracles--even maintaining physical strength and healing well beyond expectations of the medical personnel. I was spared a fourth scheduled surgery and a skin graft which I was told was absolutely necessary. The Lord is Serious about his promises. We need only to accept and act upon his invitations and the BLESSINGS follow!

What a joy to be learning again from both of you!
The message standing out for me is the first 19 verses of 4th Nephi and our prophet’s call “peacemakers needed!” What a difference our choices make when we carefully and intentionally act as peacemakers. I love imagining what it will be like to live in complete peace!
Thank you for your continued sharing of truth!

I've realized that in my life the things that cause strife and contention come about because of pride by myself or others. Without that selfish focus so many of those problems would never happen. If I could always let God prevail in my life and Think Celestially, selfishness and pride wouldn't have a place. Thank you for an inspiring message to help me be more humble and remember the important teachings of our Savior.

When I read 4th Nephi it struck me that the many miracles the disciples of Christ experienced HAD to be related to the fact that there was no contention among them. Then Kerry shared that he had come to the same conclusion. As we strive to be one, with no contention among us, we can watch for and expect the miracles President Nelson promised. In another Come Follow Me podcast it said, conflict is inevitable, but contention is a choice. I want to choose wisely, not only how I interact with others, but what thoughts and feelings I allow to stay in my mind and heart.

I’ve loved reading the comments while I was contemplating what I wanted to share. The one thing that kept coming to my mind is, I can be a peacemaker, be more forgiving, even see miracles etc on my own but I can do those things and Hear Him much more clearly when I invite the spirit to be with me through the day. So the key for me in following President Nelson is to each morning invite the spirit to be with me throughout the day because it is more difficult to follow the Prophet on my own.

I think you are right. When we focus on our covenants, and what we’ve covenanted to do and our relationship with Christ while in the temple, it can change us. These things are hard to put into words but we can communicate through our own experiences in a way that we can relate. Spending more time in the temple is life altering.

I have found that if service does not help lift me up, but just drags me down more, I'm either trying to do too much, or I've gotten depressed, and need to address that first. Service usually delights me now, but if it doesn't, I know I do need to take better care of myself in healthy ways.

I love that they all became "partakers of the heavenly gift". Being a partaker means to be active in the gospel of Christ. Being a partaker means to seek Christ. It means to choose Christ. It means to Covenant with Him. Just as we partake of the Sacrament, and we partake of the Holy Emblems of Christ, we enter into and re-enter into those covenants and become partakers of the gift, which is Christ.

  • @JosephChild1

I think its because they ministered to each other in a genuine way, that they loved one another. And when all things became common among them, it was a byproduct of the real genuine care for one another. They were not compelled to be common, it was out of love and because they truly served each other, they looked at and treated each other as equals.
But once they started pulling themselves above others, they lost that commonality.
What a great example the people of Nephi were for 200 years.

It's such a joy to listen to both of you teach us, equally yoked together.
As I have tried to follow our prophet's counsel and expect miracles, the greatest miracle I have seen is in my changed heart--as I try to repent daily, to look upon others with less criticism and more patience, understanding, and love. I have followed promptings to get outside of my comfort zone and stop and visit a ward member that I didn't know well who has been struggling with health challenges and I have walked away feeling gratitude for the opportunity of getting to know a gracious, kind person who blesses me by her goodness. I have attended funerals of friends and ward members and have listened to family members share stories of their lives and have left a better person by knowing their stories a little better. As I have avoided getting into political debates with those who have opposing viewpoints, I have allowed peace to enter my heart and love and friendship to remain. Truly, as we serve God's children, we learn the joy of loving them and loving our Father and entering a deeper relationship with them both.

I wanted to share an additional thought as I was discussing 4 Nephi with my wife.
Verse 38 ... and they did teach their children that they should not believe, even as their fathers, from the beginning.
As I pondered this more, I think we are all in danger of this. One of the best teaching tools is your example. When we criticize our leaders, or don't follow a particular teaching because we think it doesn't apply to us.. or we look down on or talk ill of members in our wards.. or not taking our covenants as seriously as we should.. we are teaching our children that they should not believe. Our children watch our example far more than listening to our words. We should exemplify the teachings of our Savior and repent when we fall short. We won't be perfect.. but our children will forgive us for that, as long as they continue to see us strive and not give up.

    • @TheScripturesAreReal
      @TheScripturesAreReal  3 месяца назад +1

This is so crucial!!! One of the most powerful teaching tools we have is to let your children see us trying to repent and improve!

I've had big testimonies of gratitude, joy and being a peacemaker for years. The Holy Spirit has nudged me time and time again against contension, not that I wanted to be that way but it was hard not speaking my mind. But I've learned that peace is more important and God is able to do things His way without me going against Him... 🙄
I'm kind of sad that noone ever talks about the "there were no poor among them" and "they had everything in common" and how that relates to us today. As if it is something for the future, like in the Millennium. But we are asked to build Zion here and now and this is part of it. How can it be a Zion with big economical differences, where some feel smaller than others? I believe we need to be generous to those around us, not only through what we give to the church but privately, "of our own free will", to those around us. I wish someone would talk about this.

I am only halfway through this very insightful podcast and I just have to stop and say I love the phrase "service becomes self-care"! Only Heavenly Father knows the extent of the mental health issues that we have in our family and how much self-care is needed, but on this subject of service I think you have pointed out that it is the ultimate self-care. I know many times hopefully not too many times, when I've been a little bit cranky about giving service, once I go and do it anyway I find that I am experiencing so much joy that it becomes a blessing to me in addition to blessing the person that is needing the service. So it really is the ultimate in self-care! ❤

Moroni 6 talks about keeping watchful to maintain our determination to keep up with our vigilance (Mosiah 4.29,30) to stay converted (Lk 22.32) !
I think your wife was trying to say about sailing that it’s the southern wind 💨 that can put us in the doldrums that can leave us vulnerable as the east wind 💨 can be very unsettling as the north wind can be very chilly not always as pleasant as the prevailing wind (the westerly winds 💨) , in this country 🇺🇸 area of the world 🌎!
It’s nice to see u & your wife working together that is a rare thing in today’s world of conflict!
A good example to eliminate conflict to allow the miracles (Jhn 14.12) to flow !
If we notice on the popular show “The CHOSEN” we detect there was conflict, there, which delayed season 4 into season 5, interestingly enough!
Even that a show that features Jesus couldn’t seem to get along w/o conflict the irony there so characteristic of this Babylonian (dc 133.12-14) existence!
Love your talent, Kerry! Your landmark byu talk, I think 🤔 back around 2015, as to becoming more HOLY (Rev 22.11).
Your excellent words were on par with a real Len Novella (2/2011) byu type of real quality, blue ribbon, of all byu speeches, ever. A top ten, ever, address given, for sure!
The Lord bless u both (Amos 3.3; dc 132.19)!

Ephesians 2:8 For you have been saved by grace through faith, not of yourselves, it is a gift from God, not of works. Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and salvation, whom shall I fear; The Lord is the strength of my life; whom shall I be afraid. Jesus died on the cross for us, those who have faith and believe in the true Jesus of the bible will be transformed by His will that works through you. We are clothed with His righteousness when we begin believing in Him. He is the light of the world and he who follows him will not walk in darkness but have the light of life. John 8:12 .

That is my little (I thought humorous way) of making sure everyone knows when I am voicing my opinion rather than stating doctrine I am sure of. It is very important to me to distinguish between the two. I am very careful to try to make a real distinction between what we really know and what we think we know.
