- The Taurus 44 is a six shot, 44 magnum with a 4" Ported Barrel. It really reduces the muzzle flip but you still know you have a power house in your hand. Thanks to Gun Zone Deals for their help!

some of us Brazilians used to get a little "uncomfortable" around taurus. For years the company hold monopoly over civilian and police weapons allegedly through support of politicians that were more inclined to ban and control guns. Due to that, they were able to sell low quality guns for very insane prices for more than 2 decades (some examples converted in US dollar: PT taurus 380 for about 1000 usd; the cheapest 1911 .45 model for no less than 1100 usd. And i am not including taxes). Due to the fact that there were no other manufacturers allowed to sell things to normal civilians in the country, taurus could sell very poor quality equipment to the ones of us that didn't get the collector or hunting license ("if you dont like our equipment, them use nothing"). the gun laws in here are very strict. The company started to improve after the monopoly was stopped by the opening of the market (police forces are now starting to use glocks,, and now other companies are being Able to sell their products to properly registered owners). Because they lose the privilege in the market, they were obligated to improve their products and prices, so taurus is steadily becoming a good company (specially when you see the products that are made or exported to US)
Beauty of free market enterprise
That makes sense.
Taurus has gotten its act together lately.
Now I know why.
Hey ! @ Elias bram what you think of the Taurus g3 9•19
That's interesting I never knew any of that. It definitely makes me like Taurus less though
I have this Revolver now 7 years and love it. This Taurus 44 mag just saved my life from a Black Bear, i fed him 330 grain Hard cast gas checked wfn @ 1350 fps 1 chest shot and 3 head shots that exited his head with a big hole. I love my Taurus 44 mag. I have a Ruger Redhawk also but the Taurus does its job. Nothing Like A Big Bore Revolver.
Ive had my taurus M44 with a 6.5"
Barrel now for 23 years with thousands and thousands of full power reloads, never any problems and perfect accuracy - excellent value
Same here. It was a good purchase for me
What do you consider full power?
@@davidchrist428for me I really like Hornady Leverevolution
A man that will give you a box of 44 magnum at this moment in time is a true friend indeed!!
Perfect revolver to pair with the new Henry rifle in 44mag
John Doe....
🙋You made my day
😀....
Na, pair this with a Rossi. Rossi and Taurus are both Brazilian. Pair a S&W with a Henry, and Ruger with a Marlin. Yes, I know you can do whatever you want, I'm just suggesting.
@Rick Christopher pair the Taurus with a Rossi, pair a S&W with a Henry, pair a Ruger with a Marlin.
.357 is about enough for me due to my age, but you are absolutely right on about Taurus stepping up their game. I have a Taurus 605 and carry 38+p. Absolutely love it.
The 605 is a great shooter. I gave mine to my daughter years ago for home defense. She’s a deputy now but still keeps it close to the front door.
Also love my 605. Only issue I ever had was a squib on a few reloaded rounds.
I prefer a 608 with 357 magnum.
.357 is the best revolver round.
How are you.
Do you know how to identify if a .38 caliber Taurus revolver (with the newest logo) fires + p ammunition?
In models with the old logo they put ".38 + p" on the weapon, in the more recent ones I only see "38spl *" under the barrel (with an asterisk * instead of the + p)
Never had a Taurus revolver fail Owned them for over 14 years now with thousands of rounds through them.
I love the 44 Magnum cartridge and it's always nice to see companies still putting out models in that chambering.
44. Is awesome. It's like 357. But just a little or sometimes alot more oomph. Obviously due to the bigger weight of the bullets. 44. Special is also a great round for faster follow up shots. And some loads would be adaquate on Mountain lion, smaller/medium size hogs (use hardcast) and two legged predators!
Can this gun handle hardcast bullet?
@@youngboyharless9769 I agree!!! I often shoot my .44 Magnum Desert Eagle, and is definitely my favorite of the calibers (next to the .357 and .460 Magnum)
By the time I adjust hand loads down to a controllable level (200 gr JFP at 1050 fps), I realized I could get that from a .45 ACP…
I love Hogue on my 629. Impressive features right out of the box for a full size 44 mag. 44 Mag was the caliber the ruled the 70s due to Dirty Harry. It is also a great handgun for Bear Country, esp. if you are fishing in Alaska.
I have this one with a 8 3/8"barrel, two Tracker 44s 4" barrels, and the 605 Poly Protector .357 mag. Taurus gives you more bang for the buck across a wide range of quality tools. 😎👌
.44 MAG is my favorite round. Light 220 gr, standard 240 gr, heavy 260+ gr, and shotshells. Handguns, carbines, rifles. RUGER even had that semi-auto carbine. Most versatile.
I bought one of these recently, fun to shoot and build quality is fine. No reliability issues. Sure it lacks some of the refinement of S&W but its a working gun that I don't care about scratching etc. To the detractors, don't forget the DNA of Taurus and S&W are not that far removed...
I have the Taurus .44 magnum in polished S.S. W/ 7& 7/8" ported barrel and @ 5'2" & 105 lbs. I find it comfortable to shoot all day.
You Dear Are a Bad Ass.
@@shawnbruce6934 Thanks, but not so much, really I've just been shooting since I was eight years old. And I have been collecting since I turned eighteen. And I am fortunate enough to have a job that affords me that opportunity .
@Jaime Pritchett kool.
@Jaime Pritchett Said with a deep gravely voice...
@Jaime Pritchett How is Meow a reply?
I carried this in Alaska while hiking in Denali. I have put full bore hard cast lead Underwoods in it at the range before the trip. Functioned flawlessly. Its a great gun.
I own one of these too. Having trouble finding a holster for this model, what did you go with?
I carried a 454 Casull ,(Redhawk) while salmon fishing up there a few years back. And yes, there were a few brown bears along the river. They were more focused on the fishing and weren't a problem. Walking thru the willows every morning was nerve racking though. I would have felt safer with a riot gun and slugs then any pistol.
Good info thanks
I carry this revolver in a chest rig when I'm in the woods. I reload my ammo with 310 grain hard cast bullets that penetrate like crazy. Deep penetration is necessary for mammals that have teeth and claws.
That's what she said
Especially for cougars!
Can this gun handle 300+ grain bullets? Can the cylinder close?
@@cynicsupreme I use the 310 grain lee mold to cast my own bullets out of wheel weights. The cylinder closes fine with that cast bullet. A good crimp is necessary to prevent the bullet from jumping forward from recoil. The bullet is just short of the end of the cylinder.
I agree with your assessment of Taurus improving their quality over the years.
I think it's a matter of quality control because they have definitely improved on what they sell not exactly the manufacturing .
im still not buying one
@@Mthermavrick You should
I have 3 taurus pistols, all have performed flawlessly. My taurus pt22 out performs my beretta bobcat. Just a bit down on the fit and finish
I agree…
I won a Taurus PT45 in a raffle years ago.
I know people have complaints about the quality of this gun over the years…
But mine is a fantastic gun.
Everyone who shoots it is pleasantly surprised.
Accurate and reliable.
And of course the $5 raffle ticket was an easily acceptable price point.🤣👍
Sir at 12 minutes and 10 seconds in you have a serious face shooting that 44 Magnum at 12 minutes in 20 seconds you had a smile and a laugh of a young child I envy that since I don't have that gun but thank you for all your gun reviews
And let's be honest, if you can't kill it with six rounds of .44 Magnum, you probably weren't going to win that fight, even with a rifle. With hard cast, you can turn a grizzly skull into a soup bowl. If your attacker is more resilient than a grizzly, you should have invested in a Sherman tank.
Bro your comment is funny for real, but makes a lot of sense got me smiling even though its 2 years old.
Legalize at4's for bear defense.
😂😂😂.
Had a Taurus 44 for 15 years. Great Gun ran hundreds of thousands of rounds through it. Mostly reloads. I sold it to my brother to fund a Ruger Redhawk 44 Mag.
Ive had one for twenty years. Great gun. Thousands of rounds. Great review.
How often do you clean it?
Thousands of rounds, millions of dollars. But really, who can afford to shoot 44?

I really like your demonstrations and your well put comments and your honest opinions. It's nice that you don't use a lot of hyperbole. Calm cool and collected video. Thanks for making them available.
My first pistol was a Taurus .357. As powerful as that gun was, I can't imagine shooting something with even more power coming out of the business end! The one disadvantage of having the stainless finish is immediately knowing how dirty its getting. (Maybe that's and advantage?)
Makes it more satisfying to clean😎
An all steel one with at least a 5 inch barrel with run of the mill FMJ ammunition isn’t bad to shoot, and you can always get some 44 special rounds and shoot those 🇺🇸
My first revolver was a Taurus stainless m66 with 6' compesated barrel, it is one of my favorite revolvers. Cleaning the end of the barrel is a total pain in the ass, but it is worth it.
I have owned one of these for about 3 years and love it. It is much more pleasant to shoot than a wooden gripped Smith and Wesson! I didn’t find recoil to be much worse than a Glock 23.
I had a Taurus Tracker in 44 mag years ago. Thing ran great.
Can i ask you something when you compare it to 9mm 40 sw or 45 or tt33 rounds how do you find the Magnum 44 can it penetrate armour
Still have mine and love it so much I reload this caliber just for this one !
@saleemsuliman3062 I too have a Taurus Tracker and in .44 it penetrates 10 Guage mild steel. That was with jsp federal eagle ammo. 9mm and .40 didn't come close.
I've had a few taurus revolvers I've had no problem with them the are excellence revolvers.
Wanted a 44mag but couldn't afford a SW629. This was a wonderful and affordable alternative!!! Thanks for the informative video! Two thumbs way the f#*k up Sootch!!! 👍👍
Me too so I waited and saved lol 😆

@@Al_capachino Saw the Smith & Wesson and Taurus next to each other in a shop. Then walked away and saved for the Smith & Wesson lol. I just think it looks way better and plus there's way better looking after market grips for it.
@@emello4you I’m just not a Taurus fan honestly. I’ve seen a few malfunctions in person and a lot on video. I heard the q.c has gotten better but I would rather not take that chance
@@Al_capachino The firing pin breaks a lot and the piece that attaches to the hammer block breaks a lot. And also when you shoot Taurus revolvers a lot the cylinder locks up to the back of the barrel causing miss fires and lock up. And the fit and finish is very cheap looking it looked like a gun that was half way finished and they sent it out anyway. I'm good lol.
Just got the same one you had in video. I have the old 431 in .44 spl. Just wanted more power. Love your honest opinions on stuff. Many thanx.
I HAVE THE TAURUS 627 357 MAG. EXCELENT.
I have one of these, I hear all the bad stories about Taurus, but my 4" M44 is accurate, easy to shoot, easy to carry & reliable. It was also incredibly cheap! When I bought it 8 years ago I paid $250 used. My neighbor has Ruger & SW 44 Mags & he coulddn't believe how soft it was to shoot compared to his near $1,000 revolvers. I keep mine for Grizz country, I can't afford to do anything beyond practise, but being so cheap I don't care if it gets wet, dirty, scratched etc when out I'm in the woods.
I just bought the Tuaras 627, 7 shots of .357 magnum. But now I want a 44 magnum!
I have this gun. It's great. Taurus makes some good guns now. This is not as good as a Smith but it's close. Great for the money.
Chris Turner what's the price on it
Great for the money or great because great? Taurus is better than Ruger or Smith e wesson in material?
What’s the retail?

44 magnum is a great cartridge. I’m also a fan of 41 magnum.
Buford Pusser carried a .41 magnum when he was a Sheriff

Yep, would be great if they offered a 41.
The excitement in your voice and on your face just made my day! You can tell you really love this!
This is out of place a bit, but I will say anyways Taurus has been a welcome addition to firearms specifically with their large bore revolvers(454 Casull yes) and their 1911s. Thanks Taurus, you have done very Very well ! Thanks Scootch!
Bext reviews...absolute best intros. You know what we want to see...i love it how you show yourself loading each cylinder...you know thats therapeutic to revolver guys
I have the Taurus 44 in the 6.3 inch barrel and I love it! She’s powerful!!!
My next firearm purchase will be a 44 Magnum 4-in or 3 inch barrel.. after watching this I definitely would consider the Taurus 44...BTW Taurus is really stepped up their game in the quality department.. I just purchased last year a Taurus 856.. six shot defender with 3-in barrel.. titanium cerakote finish.. large dot front sight with tritium insert.. and wooden Altamonte grips... Perfect fit finish in the trigger is sweet too.. Taurus is really stepped up their game
Very nice looking revolver and love the looks of a four inch barrel. Merry Christmas to my 2A family!
ksw ; I realize as I write this text, Christmas is over but, I'm still wishing you and yours a Blessed Holiday Season and, Happy New Year.
2A Every day. Let's Go Brandon.
I had one of these for a hot second, it was "okay". Nothing really good or bad to report about it. It did kick pretty hard because of the 4" barrel. I greatly prefer the Raging Bull 6" much better. Mine shoots like a laser and the grips just eat the recoil. I polished it to a mirror shine.
Nice review on the Taurus, best on .44 Magnum. Definitely a powerhouse worth adding to the camp gear. Thx
I have a Taurus m9 clone that is a bit finicky but my Taurus. 38 revolver has always been reliable and damn near perfect.
Man you made the re-coil look as if it were nothing, great shooting sir. I love that round, it has tons of power.
This is easier shooting than a non ported barrel, I have the same gun as tested
I have a taurus 44 with a 6.5". I have had it for years and I love it.
This is a amazing information because I live in a rural part of California where this is a necessity to have! There a large animals roaming about, and .44mag will do the job.
I always enjoy & trust your reviews.
I own the Taurus M44 and I really think it's a very comfortable & accurate firearm. I've shot both 44spl & 44 magnum out of it. Seems like the 44 round is a very flat shooting round.
I'm perfectly happy with the Taurus line of revolvers. All have been reliable and accurate.
Do you own the M44 in a 4 or 6.5 inch barrel?
Like the 357, the 44mag can shoot specials all day. You can load 44 mag at the lower end and you are in +p range. Versitile. Use powders that fill the case more for your special +p development. Blue Dot is what I used.
Nothing wrong with Taurus. I have had few of them, and still have a few. I have smiths,Ruger, Kimber, sig,Glock,Beretta. I think Taurus makes a fine weapon in either revolver and semi auto. I like them just as well as my other guns. But then again what do I know, I'm just a guy who likes to shoot. Be safe out there
Where there's large predators in the city, having a .44 magnum on your hip is definitely comforting too.
Same feeling when I pack a 1911 .45 with +P 230 grains hollowpoints. If needed, that will keep the 2 legged monsters at bay.

Beautiful Revolver firearm!
A fine looking pistol. I'd like to have it in a 4in. Barrel. I love my .629 but it is a carry challenge. When I was young I carried it all over the mountains on my hip. I was in great shape so wasn't a great burden. This would be a bit easier.
I have that same gun, but with a 8 3/8" barrel. Massive fire power.
I am a big advocate of Taurus firearms. I used to own a PT 24/7 OSS long slide in .40 cal. LOVED IT and regret to this day I had to get rid of it. Been looking for one since. Also want either the Taurus 44 or the 460 raging hunter so I can shoot other calibers.
I’ve got the model 44 in the 6inch barrel. It is flat shooting and yes the porting makes a mess and stains the top of the barrel over time , pretty much like the front of the cylinder against the forcing cone.
got mine 6 months ago for 500. its great as long as you stop before shooting a full box or you'll have nice blisters from the rubber grip
I think any big caliber is going to be hard on you there's just no absolute way around it.
I always appreciate your honesty and practicality concerning your reviews. I have a Dan Wesson 44 currently and was looking into a 44 I can take to the range on a regular basis. I will certainly look into the Taurus 44 to fill that role. Thank you!
Have the Taurus 4” stainless 357 magnum and a 3”327 magnum ported for my revolvers and both are excellent ,have other Taurus semi automatics and have never had any problems and for the price
They do what is needed
And for the ability to use ✨ 327 magnum ,and 32 magnum
👉🏼32 short,32 long are quite 👈🏼,also can use 32 auto ,and this is a excellent one from Taurus ✨✨✨✨👍
Merry Christmas suits enjoy your channel very much always good content And thank you for taking the time to show us the consumer products like you do
Last I looked into these it's effectively only a three inch barrel. The last inch where the porting is located is also an expansion chamber to further tame the recoil. The only reason I think about this is there's a bit of difference in velocity gain per inch of rifled barrel.
Really appreciate the attention to detail in your videos
I own the tracker in .357 with the ported barrel. It is crazy fun to shoot. So powerful.
Me also
I dropped a 200+ pound 9 point with my tracker 357 on opening day this year. It's on my hip every day and it was because of this I got the big boy.

@@GUNSMOTE the one I carry is a 4". I got it on a lark to mainly see if I could do a good trigger job on it. I can and I did without purchasing any aftermarket parts. Took it from 11.5/6.0 DA/SA to 8.5/ 3.5. It went from a lark to shelving all my autos.
One of my favorite, if not my favorite, revolver is a Taurus. The Raging Judge. Very well built and has worked like a charm even with hot loads. An absolute beast that I wouldn’t give up for any other revolver.
an honest review incudes the good, the bad and the ugly. Thank you for your honesty.
I’ll tell you a story that happened to me that really showed me the power of rifles Vs handguns. I was at a family freinds country property. I borrowed said freinds 629 smith. Bought my own ammo and brought my maadi ak. I found a it must’ve been a boulder it was about 45-50 lbs. i set it on a tree (as a target) and proceeded to have a fun little range session. (This was ten years ago i was younger by the way). I shot 6 rounds of the hottest 44 i could get my hands on at the boulder. When it hit little chunks where breaking off. I was like wow that’s awesome 44 is really powerful. I then racked the ak and shot ten total rounds. The boulder turned into dust. There was nothing left. I then shot the remaining twenty into a tree or something. Great physics lesson that day.
If you like that baby, try the Tracker. The Tracker is a 5 shot and is a bit smaller and lighter though not light really. I live mine and it really handles the recoil better than you would think. Mine is stainless as well.
I've shot the hsm 305 gr out of the tracker and it's a rush.
A friend of mine owned the Ruger Redhawk and it actually broke one of the screws in the revolver he never did get it repaired someone burned his house down along with his Ruger Red hawk and a lot of other guns thank you for the video
I've got that exact same gun in my safe, I've had it over 20 years I think. Never had one problem with it, I love the hell out of that thing. I even bought a matching 357 magnum model 608. Yet another excellent video sootch! Have yourself a very merry Christmas!

Scooter, We had an agent that carried a 4" 29. We always used to kid him as he had to wear leather suspenders to keep his britches up.
I swear by the Taurus brand. Used it when I needed it and made it home in one piece.

The 692 357 Tracker is a 7 shot and comes with a 9mm cylinder.Very cool revolver I bought it mainly for the multi caliber capability and wound up loving it .Its on my ill never get rid of it list
Sootch, I bought my SR1911 years ago off your review and this one may well be my Birthday/Christmas gift this year from the Mrs!
I have a 605 and it's very accurate. I don't like the finish or fit but I trust it. I was a brand snob back in my 20's and 30's. Now I'm in my 50's and I have found out that brand really doesn't matter. I shot a Hi Point and a Colt series 70 and they both held a nice group. The Hi Point was much heavier then the Colt and it made the recoil better then the Colt but recoil doesn't bother me. There are 2 Taurus revolvers I would love to own and that's the 44 in this video and the 22lr+magnum convertible. I love it that it is a double action and has 2 cylinders and it's very easy to change. It's more of a novelty firearm of me but they both have a place in the mountains. You have bear medicine and you have a good hunting handgun for small game. It would be nice to have as a truck gun that I would keep in me emergency kit. I have a Henry survival rifle in it now. That rifle saved my life once when I broke down in the mountains. I had to wait for 4 days for my dad to find me. It's a good thing I put my itinerary on my dining room table. When I didn't come back he went looking for me and knew where I was going. I would buy this firearm for sure. I hope I can get one this spring. The 944 I think it is will be first.
I love the .44 magnum cartridge. The first time I shot my 629 it took a week for my smile to wear off.
Same!! To me it's a rush. Especially when it was so built up in my mind from watching as a kid.
Great pistol. I love the 44MAG and its history. I live in Elmer Keiths home town and we have a pistol hanging in the Sheriffs Office that was dedicated from him to the office. Thanks for the video!
For me power is my ruger “Toklat” 454 casual…. Big fan of it !
Ruger is also a WAAAAYYYY better company than Taurus is, so there's that.
Just obtained a Ruger .44 magnum, I’m happy with it.
To remove more of the scorch marks, try some plain ‘ol Brasso on a microfiber cloth.
I just love how excellent of a speaker you are sootch.😎
I love mine. I purchased it to go with my 450 Bushmaster when I am on a Bigfoot hunt.
It's just wrong to shute Bigfoot 😂
I currently have a S&W .357 snub nose as my woods gun I've had since '96. I hike in Maine where 400-600 lbs trophy black bears get hauled out of those woods every year so I think my setup is on the "barely" side of adequate if faced with the rare but possible man-eater. I'm going to upgrade to this specific Taurus .44mag. I think it being heavier than the Tracker is a plus and an extra round. What's an extra 12 oz hiking? A bottle of water - but for decreased recoil, stronger cylinder for high-pressure rounds and extra round I think the sacrifice is worth it. Great video - you rock it, soldier. Long live the Republic and at this posting a respectful salute to Ukraine.
I own one had for about 2 years no problems. Good gun. Plus I gave it a polishing makes a big difference in the look. And I put a fiber optic front sight.
Your face and that grimace on the opening video shot as you were blasting, damn that had me laughing! And those fireballs that thing was throwing just adds to that grimace!
My dad bought a Taurus 357 out of box the cylinder would bind. I know people that's had good luck with them. I guess every body has problems now and then. Good video.
I have the .44 magnum tracker with a 2.5 inch barrel, I love it.
Fancy 12 penny pointer on the bullets.would expect nothing less from a top notch RUclips gun guy. Go man go!
A few years back I bought myself a 3" S&W model 629 deluxe (TALO exclusive). If I hadn't gotten it for less than retail (I think I paid right at $900) I'd have probably gone with Taurus. I have a single action .44 magnum, but I wanted a DA model I could carry. It finds its way into my waistband fairly often and when it's not, it's sitting ready. Ammo is hard to get right now in my area (and about a buck seventy-five a round when I can find it). BUT there's a lot of good in a quality .44 magnum, assuming you are a capable shooter. Taurus has really stepped up their game, it seems.
This will pair well with your 44 magnum lever action review from last week. A guide's dream for encounters with Baloo or Bagheera. Great for taking Bambi or bigger antlered critters
Merry Christmas Sootch00 and all viewers

I had completely written off Taurus and never considered owning one.... Until I saw their Raging Hunter 460 and had to have it. I just really like the design and Im hoping it proves me wrong about the image I had for them. Time will tell.
I don't think this will replace my beloved 686, but I still want one.
I almost bought one of those back in the early 90's!
Great review my brother I'm a Taurus fan... Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and to your whole family Don may God bless your whole household.
Enjoyed the review Taurus is getting better all the time just bought the Gs2c in 9mm I like it after watching your review I think that was the one very affordable and it works thanks and Merry Christmas
Love mine, had it a few years now. I did hand polish the matte finish to a gloss shine as though it were nickel plated. Compared to S&W 29 and 629 Classic, the Taurus 44 shoots much sweeter, thanks to the factory porting. Basically the Taurus 44 is a pleasure to shoot. S&W 29 and 629 Classic are good shooters as well but rattle your cage a bit more with no porting and for me more for my safe queen collection. If you can’t make up your mind just get ‘em all like I did ! Merry Christmas 🎄 & God Bless
Is it difficult to polish? I have the 8inch version and that sounds like a fun project.

I’ve always wanted to shoot the Model 44. I have the Model 66, which is the 7-shot .357 Mag. Version, built on the same frame. It is an enormous chunk of steel. .38 Specials feel almost like .22 LR out of it. I can imagine .44 Mag. being quite manageable out of it.
@Leon Wilcox you are correct. The model I have is the M607.
I had one of the first crop of M-44 Taurus blued. Ported and an expansion chamber. Sweet and loved it. Had to choose between either selling it or a SW 4” 629, also ported. Dolce the Taurus because the Smith was so rare. But honestly? The M-44 was just as good.
44 is awesome I have the ruger super Redhawk 44 7 1/2 inch barrel. It is a beast and will tire you out very quick.
I prefer the long nose/ barrel . Would be awkward to hip carry but it's dead accurate
@@dronepilot260rc yes they are dead on
