Rougarou, formerly known as Mantis, is a floorless roller coaster located at Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio. Designed and built by Bolliger & Mabillard, the roller coaster originally opened in 1996 as a stand-up roller coaster called Mantis, which at the time was the tallest, fastest, and longest of its kind in the world. Cedar Point had planned to name the ride Banshee, but due to negative publicity following the announcement, the name was later changed to Mantis.
In September 2014, Cedar Point announced the pending closure of Mantis, scheduled for the following month. The park later revealed that Mantis would not be removed but would be transformed into a floorless roller coaster design for the 2015 season. It reopened as Rougarou on May 9, 2015.
This coaster is underrated. It’s really fun!

It’s just kind of like a default coaster. Not bad by any means but sub par compared to others.
Makes me sick, too rough that’s why most people don’t ride it.
@@Teqgs Rougaru isn’t rough lmao
Now, THAT'S, what I call a true rollercoaster ride. Speed, twists galore, loops like crazy and a longer ride than most. The only reason not to ride this, is if health is a concern, or for any reason, you won't or can't ride one of these.
Due to neck and back injuries, Cedar Point decided to make it where you don't squat anymore. I know this because I rode it. (P.S. it's my favorite ride now!)
This roller coaster is extremely underrated, it’s always the first roller coaster I ride when I get in the park because the wait is always short and it’s a good warm up
One of my first coasters. Idk it just feels so elegant and beautiful. Not necessarily the scariest ride but it’s awesome. Right up there with gatekeeper for me
This was actually my first rollercoaster I've ever been on back in 2019 when I went to Cedar Point for the first time.
Love this one don’t know why people don’t like it
I love this ride it can be rough at some points in the ride but overall super fun and I love the drop
I love this coaster
this was a fun ride, but its so rough
People hate this ride a ton, saying it’s really rough. I rode it in 2017, and thought it was a pretty decent coaster. Not as bad as some people say.
I'd kill to ride this thing, dude...
This ride was good apart from the head banging and the upside down circles weren’t as bad as I anticipated
This is my favorite coaster at the place, very underrated
May I use this footage for a review? i will give you full credit.
Coaster was definitely a little rough but one of my favorites
I rode yesterday and had the roughest ride of my life, felt sick afterwards so I had to skip out on Valravn and Raptor thanks Rougarou
Ikr, I’ve only ever ridden this once, and will never ride it again. Unbelievably rough for absolutely no reason.
Even though I had a pretty forceless ride on it, except for the two quick transitions and inclined loop, with a little head banging, I loved this coaster. The floorless conversion worked well for it. Actually, I got a little dizzy at the last 15 seconds or so. But, underrated and fun!
Two of my group mates from my band trip to cedar point rode this. I’m too scared. The fastest I was on was Gemini.
This might be an obvious question but do you prefer this coaster as Rougarou or Mantis? In other words, is it better now or when it was a stand-up coaster?
When it was the Mantis it was absolute torture. I only rode it a few times even though at that period of my life I was buying season passes and going like 20 times a year. I haven't been back since they changed it though, but imagine it can't be any worse.
@@arrondentinger2086 I imagine it was full of neck and back injuries
@@superfilmbros3307 the sustained positive Gs also made walking feel weird afterwards lol and if you're a guy...it was uncomfortable
The Mantis, aka The Crotcher, was not as good as it's refit. If you weren't careful, it would honk your nuts.
Even if you didnt manage to lock yourself in with your restraints too high, the high positive Gs throughout the whole ride made it extreeeemely painful on your legs. For me, anyway.
I Miss Mantis Coaster
What is this amusement park called
Cedar Point
Learn to read the freaking title 🤦♂️
ThrillRideFreak88 your comment is amusing I laughed too much
Japanese Koko 😫✨✨✨
Who likes the rougarou at cedar point it's so fun I love it I went on it maybe two times
raptor
rougarou
I loved this ride so much however it did give me a headache
If u can please get this rough headache away from the greatest ride of all time yes that would be great, please and thank u,it kills my heart and soul that every time I go to ride my all time fav I have to hear this ride that I rode once and felt like triple h hit me in the head with his sledge hammer over and over it have my very bad psd flashbacks from my nightmarish rides on vortex at ki 😭😭🙁🤒 don’t have enough ibuphen for this one,one and done
People say this ride hurts but I disagree it’s actually fun even tho I’ve never been on it 😆
You're opinion is invalid, GP.
You can't judge the ride if you never been on it.
@@ghostriderfanboy6618 so
It's not my favorite floorless coaster but it's one of my favorites in the park. I still wish I could've ridden it as Mantis.
I road it it was pretty painful
the coaster is good it’s just after the mid coarse it turns into something else
RUclips noticed me 3 days later wtf
Tennessee Tornado on steroids
It's really just a watered-down version of Superman at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. 🤷♂️
This ride has potential but at the moment it's my least favorite floorless coaster
Has potential? They just gonna change the layout or something? Lmao
@@Lukester1234 I think they meant in terms of smoothness.
There are trolls in the comment section saying this is a good ride but they are just trying to get you to experience the pain and keep you out the lines of the other good rides. Cedar Point made a good attempt to upgrade this coaster, but it didn't completely work out. They should tear it down and build another launch coaster. Or make this an indoor coaster and change the trains to make the ride smoother. Also change the restraints so people don't bang their heads against them.
I think it's a pretty sweet ride. Nice compact, low to the ground layout with some cool features.
this ride is ok but after queuing for more then 1 hour one can not STAND it Lol
Not bad, but compared to the other rides this felt pretty bland. Just imo.
