📌🆕 Full list of fixes and improvements in today's 1.12.0 release

    - You can now have multiple Little Arc windows open at once! You'll also notice improvements to design and Little Arc opening animations.
    - The Sidebar will now dim slightly when the Arc Window is not in focus.
    - We've improved the UX of dragging a tab out of the sidebar, preventing accidental new windows.
    - We've implemented Chromium's Sad Tab feature, which shows when tabs aren't rendered correctly. If you see this, hit CMD SHIFT R or close the tab.
    - Command + Option + Delete now deletes a selected suggestion in CMD T.
    - We fixed a bug with Max 5-Second Preview that may have caused the preview to trigger on the wrong window.
    - We've made fixes to some common renderer crashes, which should prevent "blank" tabs.
    - We fixed a bug where the Mini Audio Player wouldn't show when the audio volume was very low.

I think doing What's new with Vlogg like this is a waste of viewers' time and it's bad. Can you make a quick summary version like a note? Because it takes a lot of effort for a user like me just to watch the whole video and realize there's nothing to update...

Is there a reason that you have chosen to make the stoplight buttons gray? It's a standard design theme in macOS to have the stoplights grayed out for inactive windows.

@JohnTerhorstPhD You're right. That confuses me too. Most macOS windows have the traffic light buttons colourful when the window is active, and silhouetted when the window is inactive. I inadvertently find myself looking at the traffic light buttons up the top left as the most reliable indicator of whether a window is active one or not.
Many times I've clicked on an empty part of the Arc sidebar to make a window active, to find it's already active.

On the subject of mobile, tab sync is definitely a feature I need from my browser, but I can't see why that would get in the way of designing the best mobile app otherwise. All I really need is a list of tabs that are open on my desktop and the ability to open them in mobile. As long as it can do that, I'm good.

Regarding costs for the 5-second-preview: I've been wondering all week whether you guys need to burn some money or what because I don't need to press any shift key to start the preview, it just happens when I hover. And since I hover over links all the time, I keep getting previews that I never asked for. I assumed it was a way of pushing the feature, but if this is a bug, there's something for you to cut costs right there, cause I think I'd actually prefer the preview to be triggered by Shift (as advertized).

If you exhaust the other options and have to post an update that says "Hey, we tried, but we have to put this behind a $5 a month fee", I won't be surprised or angry because you explained in terms that make sense what's up as soon as you knew. More tech companies should learn from you.

sync between desktop and mobile is essential!! id probably keep using the current app most of the time just for the sync ability even if you made a much better browser. being able to pin whatever page im looking at for my computer later is peak. would be even better if i could pin and snooze on my phone for it to pop up later and remind me on my laptop.

Mobile Arc: I need something quick, snappy, snazzy:
    - I'm on a phone, I need something where I can easily open links (default browser), and quickly read/do something.
    - No fluff; nothing of clutter. If you look at Safari they do the little things like putting the search bar at the bottom and having the home page be previous/pinned tabs.
    - Make Arc stand out, I see too much of Google these days, the soft gradient and noise with the rounded edges on modern day phones makes the UX so much better.
In short, massively upgrading the current version of the mobile Arc could also work. I see value in what you do, and I believe you guys are taking the right steps.

Wahhhh! Snooze tabs would be so awesome, thinking about it and there's definitely sites I need to be reminded of in X time, and right now I have to create a task in Motion for that. Being able to snooze a tab (and it clearly notifying that it has been unsnoozed) would be so helpful!
Okay, and Arc for mobile 👀👀 you've got me SUPER intrigued. I feel like seeing the rethought mobile browser would be required to ultimately make that decision, but the thought around it is very intriguing 🤔 just like you rethought the browser on desktop from scratch, doing the same for mobile, with SUCH a different use-case would be amazing. Genuinely have been so bummed by what browsers currently are on mobile. They aren't fun to use, feel I'm fighting with them in-fact, and end up just having 500 tabs open before clearing them all out.
Mobile browser is more ethereal, checking something in the moment. So curious to see what your team is thinking about to redesign this as it's definitely needed! Blue 🔵 Blue 🔵 Blue!

I've also thought about how the Arc experience will translate to mobile. Yes, syncing between my desktop and my mobile device is a high priority as it just makes it so much easier to take your links with you (you never need to go back to that one tab until it's already been archived 😅), but I am definitely interested in a browser that is mobile first. Isn't AI Hover just being used so widely accidentally? 🤔 I know for me it only triggers on the pages where it's on by default like Google.
I love the AI experiments, but I've basically turned all of them off:
    * The Command+F too often breaks my regular 'find on page'. Breaks search in PDF completely, no idea when it decides to Ask instead of search.
    * Rename of tabs and files too often makes it something generic, making it harder to keep track of what I downloaded/pinned.

This is amazing! Thank you for being so transparent with all the plans and potential problems that might arise. Personally, I've been anticipating a full-featured mobile Arc just to have everything in sync with the desktop version. However, I am a huge advocate for innovation, and considering the incredible success Arc has gotten in a product line with well established players for exactly that, I would LOVE to see what a new browser experience for mobile looks and feels like. But it feels hard to choose one over the other (I don't know why it would be hard to have both). So, I wouldn't mind to wait longer if time is the problem. Just do what you've been doing-deliver the best product as possible and I'm sure the community will gratefully receive it with open arms🙌🏼

That being said, I also LOVE the concept of a totally new mobile browser that doesn't work like anything else on the market. I'm torn 50/50 on which to vote for.

Thanks so much for all the work done in Arc. It's totally revolutionised my teaching and personal use and I know I've only scratched the surface of the features. In relation to the mobile app, my biggest bug bear with Chrome is that if it is set as the default browser on my iPhone, any app specific links will always launch in Chrome rather than the app. Eg, if I get an email notification from a student that they've added a comment on Google Classroom, if I tap on the link it'll open in Chrome instead of Classroom. If I've got Safari set as the default browser then the apps launch properly. I'm not sure if this is a Chrome problem or an iOS design. I'd say if it's a Chrome problem then they need to sort that out. If it's iOS, then RIP my iPhone browsing experience.
Thanks again, I'm sold, sold, sold 😍

The final thing keeping Arc from being my default browser, is that when I got excited after using the browser on one computer, I became upset that I just couldn't seemingly continue on the other computer and have them be in-sync. Shift+Click is SO useful. Amazing work y'all!

Absolutely been loving Arc since it helped me get through the end of my degree! It's really cool to see how resistant you guys are in charging for features that cost an incredible amount to run. I of course can only speak for myself, but I wouldn't hesitate for a second paying some sort of monthly/yearly fee for these features, especially knowing it's helping this company and browser grow!
Also personally rooting for Blue! The reason I came over to Arc was because it was very cool, new and instantly solved many issues plaguing other browsers for me. I think that same principle should be applied to the mobile browser!

Got a satisfied grin from using Max's "Ask on Page" when I was looking for some new metal album to listen.
In a looooooong page with the full list of released and upcoming albums, In two queries I got a list of what was released under 'symphonic metal' and what was upcoming in 'Doom metal'.
So much time loss (and hand strained) preserved. Thank you!

I used to think 'I NEED my tabs to sync between phone and desktop!' but actually I mostly use my phone browser for quick things. Things like Googling a quick thing, doing a quick web-based work thing, and... and uh... I guess that's it lol. I rarely actually do any serious browsing on my phone. What I do think is nice, is the ability to grab a tab I might have open on desktop, but it's pretty rare tbh. What I would like is:
    - an intuitive and fun way to look over all my tabs (this is usually easy on desktop but typically cumbersome on mobile)
    - would love to see some of ARCs super-useful AI features on mobile (especially summarization and hover)
    - Easels! Really fun to use on desktop, and just a fun way overall to track things like gifts, trip ideas, shows/movies, anything I 'collect' on mobile
You guys are awesome, and you're actually making the browser fun, like wtf? lol

    Ideas for Layups:
    1. Sidebar on the right side
    2. Nested Split windows (think of creating a vertical split window, and then on the right one, create a horizontal split window; on the left side, you have one window, and on the right side, 2 windows are stacked over each other).

I am truly loving Arc. I have tried switching back to Safari Sonoma. But there is just one big thing I miss there (besides the damn slick UI of Arc) and that's the flight routes. I can't thank the team enough of having flight routes. They make my life so damn intuitive. I just notice I got back to social, and move back to work. Seeing my reddish browser instead of the lovely little shady greeny, gives me so much more focus.
Thanks for building this amazing product, with a great team of people!

Than you guys! On the subject of mobile, I am definitely in the camp that they should sync up. I see Arc as my organizing system, I put things I am thinking about in different workspaces, so I don't want two different organizing systems when I am in my computer and when I am away on my minicomputer I take with me. Now I don't necessarily want the synchronization to be instant if it's going to affect performance, so maybe it has a button I can press to sync, and once it's synced they are free to diverge until the next sync. But the very first thing I want is mobile for Android since I'm an Android user😆

I've been referring everyone but the only single complaint I've heard from friends (I'm a software engineer and I use a MacBook but some of my other engineer friends use Windows) is the fact that Arc isn't built and stable yet on Windows OS yet. Personally, I've been happy as hell since getting Arc back in April, but I can see the anticipation from all of the WIndows users just patiently waiting in the wings. Lol love the product, Arc Team, keep it coming please! 🙏🏼💯

Love MAX. Love Arc. On the mobile topic. I love the idea of desktop mobile sync, and for account logins it's suepr helpful, but I honestly feel it's secondary (or more acurately, a one way priority). e.g. I search & pin stuff on mobile and then later I'll deep dive on desktop (if I feel like it), but I rarely pull up a pin from desktop on mobile. I mean it's soo rare I'd go as far as saying "never".
So I think prioritizing the mobile experience specifically for mobile is the move, and then add sync from there, even if it's just as simple as having a "pin" tag you can quickly tap onto any sites you wanna save that sync's to a persistant folder in pinned tabs on desktop, (maybe called "mobile" or "synced"), that folder stays updated and ready to be organized on desktop later (or maybe MAX could organize them). This could later be evolved to allow other tags on mobile pins to direct them to specific workspaces/folders on desktop, and allow for them to also be searched easily on a minimalistic mobile browser.
Taking it a step further, on desktop it's be cool to tag articles/blogs/longform text content as "read later" and those would sync to a mobile folder in a stripped down "reader view" style for consumption on the go. That'e the only core function sync from desktop to mobile that I think I'd be excited about. Everything else is more useful to sync the other way in most of my use cases.
Thats it, love what you're doing. Love the skinny sidebar concept. Would also love some kind of a speeddial shotcut for plugins/extention if it doesn't already exist.

Soooo. Potential Pandora's Box question: Can we get a public facing list of the 'layups' that are on the board? You might be overwhelmed but it would be interesting to see what our options are.
Salesforce does this thing where once a year, we get to 'upvote' our favorite ideas. We get a set amount of points and we can spread them across x number of them. Maybe something like that, but on a monthly basis?

Keep/improve that workflow and integrate a mobile first interface, there will be no reason for the normal person NOT to daily arc!

i almost never comment on YT videos, but i would LOVE to see what's new with Blue! TBH i love Arc but i haven't used the mobile browser much at all because being productive on the desktop browser is just not something that works at all on mobile... the ecosystem is just different.
the mobile ecosystem is designed with separate apps in mind, so the way Arc works on desktop just doesn't carry to mobile. for example, loading a Gmail page on mobile Arc simply loads it as a web page, whereas i'm already logged in to the gmail app. same for everything else. so i imagine it's mostly only useful for "reading" pages and content, which is functional but really more of a base line feature of a browser and not really disruptive or forward looking.
making an Arc browser for mobile, for the sake of being in sync... it may work now but i'm not sure if there's a future in that, but that's just me!
    voting for Blue!!!
besides i'm sure there's some way to build / design syncing in the future even if you're going for a disruptive, new browser. it seems like a basic feature.

Okay this was the first video update I actually watched. Low key thought it was kind of annoying when I heard about it at first thinking “just give me the deets!” But i actually really enjoyed the energy and the people behind this. I’ll definitely watch these on the weekend or something. Work weeks are just too hectic. Also. I use the shift open command on clicks for pop out arc (which happens to be the same sequence for AI) so I wonder if there’s a confounding affect happening there. Okay. That’s all. Thank you for your hard work.

For mobile: I always thought sync could be secondary, maybe have a space dedicated in mobile where you can access your last accessed space on desktop version. The rest should honestly have those nice trinkets/ features that make the browser so amazing to use. The little things is how you win!

I would definitely be interested to see what a new mobile app would look like. You are right in that the key for me to use a browser is the ability to keep both in sync, and tbh the current Arc mobile app is struggling 😬 (put in a bug report of course). I really love arc, I really want to keep it, but mobile is a big one even though I spend more time on my computer. I’m thinking about writing a blog post about what features in Arc I can’t live without and if another browser could meet those requirements.

I want to comment on the computer and mobile sync. I do a lot of my work on my tablet, almost as much as I use my computer and being able to sync them would be great because as a student I usually take notes and do stuff in class with my tablet and switch to my desktop at home. When the work I'm doing is left unfinished, being able to access them through my computer would be such a good feature. It could be like a separate workspace which is either never or after a long time archived. I understand most of the mobile users will access Arc through their phones but for us people that are productive on their tablets, it would be a great feature. Maybe it could be a switch in the settings if it turns out to be a resource intensive. I'm also a windows/android exclusive user so if you can update us about that side of the development it would be phenomenal!

As an iPad first but also Mac user I need both to have synched bookmarks and password access and ad blocking. Lack of mobile (iPad) has kept me from switching to Arc as my default on my Mac. I know that the word productivity is the buzz word of the 2020s, I'll leave it to you to satisfy that need for others. What I want is an enjoyable browsing experience when I'm using the web for research and learning. I need a technique for grouping bookmarks by topic as my research hops around from topic to topic. Also, my vote would be to see what potential you guys can hit with a mobile browser from scratch! It seems to me the main feature people here in the comments need is tab sync/snoozing. Maybe if you could just add that one thing to the new browser, you could go wild on the rest.

Hey Josh, loving the Max link previews feature, but I do end up triggering it by mistake sometimes since for me the info appears on hover rather than requiring me to press shift. Triggering it by mistake is no problem for me of course, but I imagine it costs Arc money each time it happens and counts as usage, so if you remove this auto mode and require shift to be pressed I imagine it could help cut down on costs? Of course that would mean fewer people probably remember to use it and build a habit too, so it depends whether usage or costs are more important. I really like hovering to see it personally.

I have never used a better browser than Arc. Congratulations on the excellent work! So far, the only thing I've been waiting for is the skinny sidebar. I hope this can be implemented! 🙂🙏 I believe that on laptops with 13 and 14-inch screens, the sidebar reduces the available horizontal space. Personally, the option to fully hide it seems useful but for me switching tabs using only keyboard shortcuts takes a bit of learning curve. Auto-hide adds a delay during high-productivity moments. So, being able to always see the sidebar but in a skinny mode would be perfect! 👌

Having the option to put the tabs on the top will probably make it much easier for many of us to permanently switch to Arc.
For once, just because everyone is used to it. But this would also be great for smaller laptop screens, because the tab bar either takes up a lot of space, or I hide it and the window becomes fiddly to move around on the screen (the border is too thin).
Often you only use one or two tabs either way - safari manages this excellently with its compact tabs layout.
