Jamie Ji - it is wonderful to see how you pour in genuine positivity and energy into the issue of 'inspired' compositions. So many of us acknowledge this silently and some of us even become a little pugilistic while defending our composers. But it is great to watch the manner in which you have narrated this aspect of our film and music industry across so many of your videos. Among so many other things, the respect and regard you demonstrate towards the inspired numbers must be emulated by all who are in a position to share opinions on controversial topics on mass media. I am learning from your style and am trying to bring in this well-researched, incisive yet mellowed, fun, and affable approach into content I create - which is on a different subject altogether - poetry. I wish you the very best 🙏 Jai Hind , Dheeraj, Kavitayein Suni Ansuni.
Percentage wise, LP have the least 'inspired' /copied or lifted tunes. Pyaarelal has confessed in an interview that LP were dead against lifting tunes from elsewhere but many times the producers liked a tune and insisted to be copied. Thanks for the video. You rock.
Hi Mr. Alter, first of all I am a big fan of your father's contribution to the Hindi movie industry. I was pleasantly surprised after seeing this video of yours. So many Hindi classic songs lifted from the Western world!!! I am really flabbergasted. Thank you so much for this video. Keep uploading such videos.
Amazing research work done. Laxmikant Payarelal remained original during their prime years in 60s and 70s. I guess when time changed in 80s and music changed and this change was not fitting well with their style of music. I think they were forced to change their music style and then they ended up getting inspirations from western music etc. I love their music from 60s and 70s. In my opinion they were second best after Shankar Jaikishan during that era.. It my personal opinion..
Jamie bhai, about this song from the early 1980s movie Desh Premee that Laxmikantji actually sang for, "Gore nahi hum kaale sahi", they based this song on the band Osibisa that toured India - Bombay (Mumbai) and Pune in 1980 or 1981. The words in the song, "Kulamba kulwa kulwa kulwa" are copied from Osibisa. I was 5 years old then in 1980!
Thanks for your information. Which we'll never known . As I know Except Composer Madan Mohan and OP Nayar all Hindi movies composers are copy composers.
George Benson is one of my favorite smooth jazz musicians/ guitarists. As a musician myself, I was shocked to know Karz tune was copied from his album. Thanks for sharing that, Jamie. Because I have heard very few old songs from bollywood. Morover George Michael, I can't believe that. 😅😅
My guess was correct you are the son of Mr. Tom i became happy to see you and speaking good hindi like your father...where you leave now in mumbai of elsewhere...
No worries in the huge career of 36 years with some 650 movies and 7000 songs you have Only a handful of examples that too from their last few releases which itself proves that L-P were original in most part of their career.
Jamie , the show was very informative and entertaining. But I am even more impressed with your Hindi. I have never seen a foreigner speak Hindi like you do !! You speak so much better than many Indians !! Love you ! And power to you my friend 🙏
Hi Jamie, Mori Kante had 2 songs in that album - Tama Tama Loge and Yeke Yeke. The first one went on to be used in Jumma Chumma. The second one is the inspiration for Thanedar’s Tama Tama Loge.

Laxmikant Pyarelal ji ne 1962 se 1997 tak char dashak mein 3000 se jyada gaane compose kiye hai,,,,jinme se 30 to 40 songs inspired ho sakte hai,,,aur honi bhi chahiye
They sound much better than the songs which inspired. The beat of the Lord Shorty's song even has the old Indian bhajan and dholki beat playing on a higher temp. Good stuff but then a Rishi Kapoor video with the voice of Kishor Kumar is epic. Chalbaaz is similar. As for the rest India truly apologises to Mory kante and the rest. lol. Man we are shameless plagiarists.
Like your father Tom your Hindi and your knowledge of Hindi and western song is commendable, one thing I would say the Indian adaptation of western tune by LP is very wisely done because they sounded better and suriele than their western counterpart to the Indians
Oh nooooooooo Jamie , what have you done 🙂these were some of my favorite tunes and that too from a time period where i believed composers came up with originals ...Karz was too much of a surprise
Thanks to South Mumbai English movie playing theaters, which used to play western records in intervals, we knew many songs 2 to 6 years before our greats inspired or copied. Unfortunately, Hindi belt or local movie buffs never heard these songs before. Now it's on internet everywhere.

I think we should give credit to the old music directors who must have had a hard time searching for international tracks when there was no internet 😉 they were paid for searching and copying tunes.
Jamie you are copying 4 years old informations from the channel Bapaogiri. Because you are more famous because you are Tom Alters son. And you are pointing fingers at the great . LP, RD, SJK. They may have copied 30 to 40 songs out of their 600 to 700 songs. 😂😂😂😂.
I don’t think you would find a single original song in Bollywood even if you go looking with a magnifying glass, it’s either copied or inspired. Not many people knew that before but now due to internet and social media we do. Such a shame!
There is a logical reason for that. When independent artists create songs, they are not timebound or have any pressures. They take their own sweet time and release albums. If you see, most bands and artists release their albums years apart. However, the story is different for movies. The movie is shot within 3-4 months and the musicians have to come up with an album within that span which can be very challenging. Hence, they have to rely on existing tracks for inspiration and also write lyrics for the music and the situation. Sometimes the movie director also provides references to the music directors so that also restricts the creative ability of the artist. Tanishq Bagchi is infamous for remakes but he himself told that the directors and producers want him to remake the old songs. He has some original compositions in Bengali too which are very good.
Such a stupid comment. It happens in every industry. If you can price it even 10 pc songs of all created are copied ill happily agree with you. But Shame is on you who is talking without any fact.
