I mow my lawn on Friday mornings and I always listen to the Making It Podcast. This week was different though, I had to stop mowing my lawn about 5 minutes in to it and just take a seat and listen to you talk about Aaron. To say it was heartfelt and touching is an understatement; the love you have for him was felt with every word. When someone passes you can't help but think about your own mortality and think back on what you have done with your own life. It feels selfish but what you said about Aaron and the things he left unfinished gave me a lot to think about. Thank you for being so open and sharing your feelings it speaks volumes of your character.
Very well said Dan, I was so moved listening to Jimmy on Friday talk about Aaron. It really brought home to me how short and precious life is. Thank you Jimmy for sharing your heart with us at such a difficult time. Much love Brother.
I found that if you look at the spot where the nail is going and not focus on the head off the nail, you'll never miss . Remember that and try it. For the guy who has everything....an Estwing hammer for big, medium and small jobs... The long handle would be an excellent hammer for demolition, removing old wood flooring , siding and shingles, lots of leverage, I can see this being handy for certain jobs.
That IS how you do it ! Once you started welding the big one, my brain was pleading with you to make the small one too. And you didn’t disappoint Jimmy. Top job mate.
In the 70s i watched two carpenters have a nail off. 2x4 wall laying on sub floor carpenter 1 20oz framer, carpenter 2 32oz framer. Ready set go! part way through carpenter 2 lost control of his hammer. It hit square on his shin missed 2 days of work. But when he got back the pizza he bought was good.
When started cutting the head off of that brandy new ESTWING hammer I also most cried. I worked at Estwing too for a couple years...the BEST hammer in the world...loved what you did to them....
Fabulous long scarf cut, then grind to give space for the weld filler & hey presto long & strong. That's the gift of being alive to do stuff, something to treasure & delight in, for none of us know how long we live. Thanks for sharing!
That's what makes you The Greatest,,others destroy to create something new, but not you,You extended the hammer but also made a shorter one with the left over,Simplicity is your Greatness,You will go even farther,Cheers from Toronto Canada!
That's pretty darn useful! A long hammer for more torque, thus more power in hammering a nail in, and a short hammer for lighter and/or precision work, as well as working with more delicate materials.
I have my Great Grandfathers Estwing framing hammer with the old school brown handle. Still use it on jobs to this day, I love using his old tools, all made in the U.S.A. 🇺🇸 Thanks Jimmy!
The fact that you didn’t drive every one of those nails perfectly made you actually seem human which both made me feel better about myself but also question everything I’ve ever thought about your abilities. Seriously, huge fan and thanks for showing us a humorous side!
Sorry for your loss. Listening to you speak gave me a lot to think about and made me respect you more as a person. I feel like I knew him from your stories. Rip Aaron
This hammer is badass, and a perfect representation of what happens when you put all of your skill points into “strength” and “luck” but completely ignore “perception” and “agility”
Just heard the latest podcast and want to give you my condolences for your loss! Thank you for sharing a bit of Aaron’s background with us. Nice Hammer though
Jimmy, your like lightning! Never hit the same spot twice! On a serious note, my sympathy to you in the loss of Aaron. I loved the heartfelt discussion on ‘Making It’ podcast about Aaron and the impact he had on you and the impact you had on his life as well. He will be missed.
In some odd, future zombie game, Jimmy Diresta's "Wing War Hammer" is the side-quest we all play. Comes with its own game sound effects. "See ya!" "Goodbye!"
I'm 6'7". I'd love to have one of those when I'm working between my feet. Plus, imagine how effective it would be if zombies swarmed a job site. Way to go Jimmy.
It all started going downhill when the aluminum axe handle vid was made. Now, here we are, banging faces of hammers together all willy-nilly. I love the "stir the pot" Jimmy!
Soooooo, Jimmy lets be real here, i know you man you started out caring more about getting a stubby hammer then the long one.... and i can prove it.... as you say you go to school on the first one... so since you knew there was going to be a learning curve you started with the one you "cared less" about.... but after making the you thought to your self " that long one is sexy " soo... you made the video about that one... :)
Stumbled onto your channel a while back possibly from VGG videos on auto play and never subscribed. Big mistake that I have recently corrected. I can't get enough of the videos but luckily I have an entire library to catch up on. Amazing work!
I don't know how many times I've been thinking at the beginning of one of your videos "what is he doing?" only to think two minutes later "that's brilliant". This is one of those videos.
Alternative video title: "the long and short of it". In all seriousness though, my condolences to you and Taylor, Mike the Fireman and Willie on your loss of Aaron. In the podcast you mentioned all that Aaron would have wanted in work and frienship, and I seriously believe he couldn't have found a better friend than you. I wish you and his family all the strength
You know what? I can see use cases for both hammers, the longer one and the shorter one! 😃 Fantastic work, Jimmy! Nicely done! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
My first summer apprenticing a pro carpenter, at the end of the summer he rewarded me with my own 28 ounce Estwing! I felt like a pro myself when I took my first swing at that 'One Hit' nail challenge!! It is a bit of a right of passage for a beginner if you ask me!! :)
I'm so glad you made the stubby hammer too for all those people who choke up on the hammer. I should have several in my classroom. Also, first time in the first 100 views
Not to rain on your parade, but you have no way of knowing if you’re actually in the first 100 views. Views only count after you view the video. There could literally be a million people watching a video at the same time as you, all before 100 views :D

Digging with a shovel is quite difficult for me without straining my back - because I'm tall, not because I have a bad back - so I ended up making a custom 6.5' shovel haft out of oak. There's always a niche for oversized tools, and honestly I'd love a hammer like this one.
Cool and unique design and project this week. Hopefully you find good use for them Jimmy. Can't wait to see what u make next. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend Jimmy Diresta. Keep Designing. Keep welding. Fab on. Keep making. God bless.
I know it sounds kind of silly, I mean everyone knows how to use a hammer right? But when my Dad , who built houses, showed me how to swing a hammer in my 40's. Suddenly I could sink a nail with a single strike. well +1 to tighten it up.
I’m sorry Jimmy, it was really heartwarming to listen to you share about Aaron; pains me to know I’ll never have the honor to meet the great guy he was after knowing all he’s contributed to this country and to you ♥️
I got a little nervous when I thought the leather handle Estwings were to be sacrificed. I've had mine for 35 years and don't know how long my dad had it before me.

I've heard if you beat the wood around the nail really good, the nail goes in easier.

This project is stupid and useless and terrible and I love it.
This comment is horrible and tasteless and mean and I completely agree.
It’s hideous, yet I can’t look away! Estwing R&D are probably having a fit right now.
