What a great video to take my CNC sign skills to the next level! Question: I want to carve just 1 corner of a large sign project as a test, on a piece of scrap. So I can see the border and the texture and the depth of the 3D model in that corner, before I carve the full sign. How can I crop the full sign down to just one corner in Vcarve? I don't want to scale down the whole sign, just cut a full scale portion of it. Thanks!
Hello Peter. Thanks for the coment. My initial thought would be to set you datum to the bottom left, create a retangular aournd a section of the bottom left corner that you want to test. When it comes to tooling choose to use the "A Vector Boundry" to issoluate your tooling to that section of the job. Of course make sure that your test material is larger then the rectangle so you can hold it down to your wasteboard. Please keep in mind that there a few different ways to do this and with me not seeing the job or knowing what area you want to test this is a general idea. If you need more help I would suggest contacting support@vectric.com and they can arrange to see your file and give you more advice.

I swear to God, ever since I've owned VCarve Pro since Version 3.5. You are the First Person who's taken the time to show what the various Subroutines Can and Will Do. Usually Vectric Glosses over the Features and does little to explain the various Functions an their usage. Thank You very much.

This was an excellent tutorial! I really needed some help breaking into 3D in VCarve Pro and this was a huge help in understanding the mechanisms. Also, the bar-napkin-art had me howling. Thanks for posting!
One question...why did you put the goose on it's own LEVEL? I saw that you put the sun behind it's feet to make their height greater, but could you have done that to the goose while leaving it on LEVEL 1?
Hello and thanks for the comment and question. For that level I used level clipping to clip the moon so I could shape the goose better. "Level clipping" effects all of the components on that level... so knowing that, if I left both components on Level 1 then all of the composition would have been clipped. Not the result I was looking for. Does that help? ~Todd
This is a great tutorial. Don't have all the models you used but I might find some equivalent in Aspire. Need more of these type of modeling tutorials. Thank You Todd!
You showed how to use frame as a "filler" for the customer to see where the wall would not show through. When actually cutting is that part cut out or is there wood left in that area at the thickness you set. Was not sure if that was for show or for milling too. Great Video

Hello... I have a Dell laptop... nothing special. VCarve Desktop, Pro and Aspire will run on just about any off the shelf laptop or PC. You can check the minimum specs on the software here - support.vectric.com/aspire-questions/item/minimum-computer-requirements-to-run-software Hope that helps!
Enjoyed the tutorial but I've got a question. I paid a great deal of money for my V Carve Pro and also bought a Photo V Carve software from Vectric and didn't get any of those make and design tools in my pack. What's up with that?

Can export file to STL or STEP or IGES file format?

Using Aspire you can export any of your layouts as an STL file (STEP and IGES are not supported)
