    What are the actual rules for this? Just hit the black spot with (the first) one foot? Or do you have to stay there as well for a few seconds?

    Even the people that weren't even close are still doing something that is completely stellar!

    Save yourself some time and only watch the landings from 00:35 to 02:28

    I think you should have to STICK the landing to make it count, not just come gliding by and stick a foot down, then go careening off down the field.

    • @MThompsonvought
      @MThompsonvought 4 года назад

      at least get two feet on the first landing, you can move around after that because your wing is still up there at first but initial two foot contact.

    • @MrJdsenior
      @MrJdsenior 4 года назад +2

      @@MThompsonvought Exactly. It should be quite obvious to the judges who is just flying by and stomping a tenth of a second foot down, vs getting a reasonably stationary plant.
      Of course, what really matters is how the rules are set up beforehand. If it is designated as just first touch, then obviously that is what it is. Just doesn't seem like hitting a landed target to me...that would be a point of first contact target, and it appears that is maybe how it was designated, looking at how several who just mashed the center of the bullseye going by, still fully in flight were treating it, a touch and go, or bounce. Seems MUCH more difficult to me to land it there, and stick it, at least until the chute drags you off some where. Maybe first contact, with second contact weighed in? Too complicated, likely.
      Always scored according to the rules laid out though, obviously.

      @@MrJdsenior I think it's probably a safety thing if they make it too much of a solid contact landing you would have people trying to stick it right there more and more prone to stall early on the flare and things like that. If you can come by swoop in touch with your foot and get landed without getting hurt it's a pretty good contest.

    • @MrJdsenior

      @@markmcgoveran6811 Yeah, that's a point, Mark. I actually thought about that after I left the comment but was too lazy to come back. The sand would help cushion, but there is obviously still a chance for major injury if you do something severely dumb.
      You would hope people taking part in contests like these, in an activity like this, are capable enough and bright enough to know that stalling and falling from considerable altitude to win a stupid contest with nothing for a prize (especially) is an industrial strength stupid idea.
      Anyone who is going to take up flying BETTER know what they are doing, because Murphy works overtime in the sky, and to a lesser extent, on the sea. And you can pile up just a couple of marginal decisions and end up in a real, and possibly deadly, mess. Cheers.

      @@MrJdsenior we're talking people here in this contest and they will die before they will lose it's human nature. Look at some of the places we have racetracks and we kill a couple people every time we race there. They had mines they were hellish jobs even when they were open they killed people. Now we have to pour concrete and put in iron bars and people still saw and cut their way to go in an empty abandoned mine and die. These contests like this if you don't make them safe the contestants will self-destruct just to be the best

    Totally enjoyed this! I always try for the LZ target, hope they have the comp this year at Freedom Flight Park! There's always that bit of lift that'll f&$% the perfect touch isn't there?

    FLAPPING/STALLING IS AGAINST THE RULES IN ACCURACY. That will give you a disqualification right there.

      Exactly. Why do they all arrive two stories above the spot and try to stall down? Terrible technique.

    • @markmcgoveran6811
      @markmcgoveran6811 2 года назад

      @@geodude7116 you have airplane with no engine here. The idea is generally to have a little bit too much of something and then cut it off when you can't add more. If you were coming in short when you were landing an airplane give a little gas pull up just a little. On these pair of shoes close to the ground you can't afford the loss of pitch control because it might swing into the ground and break all your bones.

    What a stupid use of paraglider !!! It is like to make competition for Formula 1 for parking ... those things are made for flying not for landing ! Waste of time and tolerate people to risk theirs spinal cords for stupid landing.
