Hearing Timo singing like this always makes me sad that I will never be able to go to a concert where he sings like this. It's a shame what happened to his voice.
I know man... His voice is a dry desert now with little to no high notes without noticing strain. And 0 resonance, I just want to cry. It's sad to see your idols / heroes getting old and less impressive. Tho he lost most of his voice due to that illness not actual age, and due to still singing while he wasn't fully recovered, but still.
He got very sick and basically lost his voice in 2011, during the Elysium tour. He in fact stated it in interviews. That's why you can notice the differencen between here and afterwards.
I know, and even nowadays when he says that he is basically healed and even sings "easier" according to him, his vibrating and resonating voice is dry. Yes he sometimes hits nice high notes, but the voice is dry, Kotipelto was mostly about a beautiful vibrating voice.... I Feel without that he falls in a "good but bland" category when it comes to singing. It's like you take the shine of a diamond... it was what made him so unique and such an awesome singer. Now even in the live DVDs which are good recorded, he is still dry af.... pity :(
He kept his voice for almost two decades at the same level. Tobias Sammet ruined his voice after not even 15 years of music. It's a shame that Timo got sick and lost his "old" voice. But I'm happy that he is still able to sing in Stratovarius, even when they sound different now.
@@oslamphoenix9871 The Elysium tour was just painful to listen to. Kudos to Timo and the rest of the band for not canceling it but there were a couple months when he couldn't sing at all, let alone at the top of his range. His voice is in much better shape these days but it seems to have lost that special timbre which really bums me out. But around this period his voice started to drop as well. Listen to live performances of Father Time, SOS, and other high-pitched songs. They aren't great. I love Timo but after like 2003-4 most of the performances do not suit the earlier part of the Stratovarius catalog. The new stuff sounds amazing however!
The recording quality and mix of this gig is also really good, relatively speaking. A lot of recordings of open air concerts are just crap and sound lifeless.

Timo was still so vibrant here. It's almost like he aged 10 years during the two years after this.
