- For the first time in over 60 years, Norfolk & Western steam locomotives 475 & 611 were reunited on the Strasburg Railroad in the fall of 2019. During their second weekend together, the two participated in a series of photo specials organized by Lerro Productions while former Great Western 90 led the railroad's regular excursions. For the first day, 611 led a freight consist, wearing its original single-bulb headlight, while 475 led a short mixed train reminiscent of its days on the Blacksburg branch. On the second and third days, 475 was transformed into 382, another M-class 4-8-0 that was made famous by O. Winston Link's photographs of the "Virginia Creeper," the legendary Abingdon Branch. While the countryside of Southeastern Pennsylvania is a far cry from the rugged Blue Ridge Mountains, it does make a decent stand-in for the more low-lying terrain around Abingdon where the Js leading passenger trains such as the Tennessean and Pelican would have met the Ms on their way from Bristol to the start of the Creeper. I arrived in Strasburg halfway through the Saturday afternoon charter and filmed what I could from the sidelines as the sun began to set. On Sunday, I participated in the first of the 382 charters. Although cloudy skies prevented us from getting sunrise shots, the locomotive crews and more than made up for it by putting on a great show with each runby. Unfortunately, my microphone was acting too sensitive on Sunday morning and much of my footage features distorted and blown-out audio. I had to cut the worst offenders from this video entirely despite them being otherwise great shots. Luckily most of it was at least somewhat salvageable and is featured here, and I hope you all enjoy the video despite the audio not being up to my usual quality.

611: *T R I G G E R E D*
LOL, but dude the sound barrier got blasted so much in this video that it’s actually sad to get the sound messed up
Awesome! Loved every second! (Especially the intro, 👍.)
Thanks!
and sorry about your quality on the video your not the only one who had a similar problem I had to screen record two of my 611 at strasburg videos and speed up the train ride one cause I lost storage space and it wouldn't let me upload it cause of my stupid icloud. at least I was able to get them on to RUclips another way.
Yikes! Tech can be a real pain sometimes can't it? At least you got it uploaded in the end.
SmokyMtnSteam I know right I wish ipads never had storage space that way we can be free to put like a thousand stuff on our that nags without worrying about storage but nooo some idiot says we have to put storage in the iPads
If you didn’t notice, the original N&W 382 was scrapped. 475 keeps the legacy of 382 by being disguised as and renumbered 382.
Don't forget about 90 it was in the video
I made a whole video or just 90 last time I visited Strasburg two years ago. This time I kept the focus on the N&W locomotives.
AWESOME I was there too Back in September and recorded it and posted it
Pretty cool video please make more Smokey videos in the future
Thanks, I plan to keep making videos for many more years.
Yo! That's me on the right at 1:30!!
Your shot was far better than mine, in all honesty
Nice. So now you’re at 51. Hope you can make it to the NCTM this November.
Thanks, hoping to get to 52 soon. I don't think I'll be going to Spencer this year, the at-the-throttle events don't make for great video and the photo shoot sounds to be tailored more toward still photography. I'll definitely try to get over there though if they put it on the museum train or do a full photo freight again.
They said it was going to stay until spring so they might do something for the videographers. Maybe working beside one of the gramlings locomotives
@@stevensainerailfanproductions It would be awesome to see N&W #611 and Jeddo Coal #85 operate together.
Awesome video dude, but bro R.I.P to the sound barrier at 14:35 with 611 and the Amtrak blowing whistles and horns to each other.
Oh Jesus dude RIP to the Sound Barrier HERE AT 18:18 the poor sound barrier got blasted
Thanks! Unfortunately my microphone kinda just died while I was filming this.
@@SmokyMtnSteam you’re welcome, that’s unfortunate that the microphone died while recording. Maybe next time, it’ll survive without dying.
Nice video smokey MTN steam I was there to see the J Frist weekend and she is epic good video btw
Thank you! I hope you had fun at the first weekend, it looked like a great event.
Great video man! It's too bad we didn't bump into each other again. But then again, its been a while I'm not even sure i remember what you look like!
So they just re numbered 475 as 382
I went to strasburg today, it was amazing
About the camera. I’ve had no trouble with filming but the editor has been the real pain sometimes. One time my editor for some reason flipped a video upside down. I know the feeling.
"Soot happens" as they say. My microphone gave me similar trouble at Tweetsie Heritage Weekend, it may just be time to buy a new one.
Beautiful video awesome job man
Really good video!
Thank you!
Truly amazing video and nice camera work! I think i actually talked with u a little bit. I has a D&S 480 hat on
No way, I was wearing an NCStL 576 hat and I think I said something to you about how I've been to TVRM too much recently. If so, it was great meeting you.
@@SmokyMtnSteam Ohhhh yes and you followed our crew to Esbenshade, It was awesome meeting you & really cool i didnt even know i was talking to you lol
3:07 he 's from shining time Station ?
382 is 475
R&N 425 should go visit the Strasburg Railroad and unite with SRC 90 and 475 for a tripleheader steam excursion, because they're both Baldwin type steam locomotives. Maybe 89, leading 475, 90 and 425 in the future!!!!
Nice video! I was there on September 28th and had an awesome time watching 611. But where did 382 come from? I have been to Strasburg a million times and never saw it before.
"382" is just 475 in disguise.
@@SmokyMtnSteam What is the significance of 382?
@@SantaFe19484 N&W 382 was one of the primary locomotives assigned to the Abingdon branch, aka The Virginia Creeper, in the last years of steam and was featured in most of the famous photographs of the line by O Winston Link. It was scrapped but 475 is occasionally used for photo charters wanting to recreate the Creeper.
ok, i'm soooo sorry in advance for the weird/stupid question, but since i don't come from the US please bear with me ^^; But i kinda wanted to know what the "second chimney", on the locomotive n.475 the one that puffs white smoke, purpose is? 17:52
thanks in advance :)
That's the electric generator for the headlight.
@@SmokyMtnSteam i thank you a lot but i don't mean the really small one but the bigger one,the one almost attached to the cabin where the conductor is, it looks like the regular chimney in the front.....sorry for not making much sense english is not my first language sadly ^^;
382=475 btw
