Cargo Movin' People - Norfolk & Western Steam in Strasburg [Music Video]

- Last weekend, I made a journey to the Strasburg Railroad to see the Grand Reunion of the two operating Norfolk & Western steam locomotives - 475 and 611. I made the entire trip within 45 hours, arriving midway through a Saturday afternoon photo freight with the locomotives and then participating in a Sunday morning photo freight with 475 dressed as 382, the locomotive made famous by O Winston Link's photographs of the "Virginia Creeper," before heading home that night. Despite the tight schedule and the cloudy skies I had a fantastic time, the people at Strasburg really know how to put on a good show. Unfortunately, when I began the editing process I found that my microphone had been acting far too sensitive and many of my shots from Sunday had distorted audio. While the majority of my footage is still usable, sadly a few clips were completely unsalvageable. So, I had the idea the make this little tribute video to N&W steam to give these shots a home where they can be showcased free of their audio tracks. This isn't my usual type of production, but consider this a preview of the full-length normal video which should be up tomorrow.
1:58 That wheelslip though
The NEW takes me back home the train use to run by. house were. I was about 12 yrs old then.in in my 70s now such wonderful memories.I love to hear it blow as I look at videos.
I noticed that 611 passed the abandoned Federal Signal Model 2 at the beginning of the video. Though I didnt see the siren itself, it did see the unmistakable overgrown pole.
I’m actually going to ride 611 this Friday
I wish I was that lucky, how was it?

The great N&W reunion with N&W #611 and N&W #475 posing as #382
The Strasburg Railroad could be the next Norfolk and Western Railroad
I can agree
The Strasburg Railroad is our country’s oldest railroad. Norfolk & Western was the King of steam locomotives which had the very best steam locomotive whistles.
I’m fan of NS so I liked the N&W
Great video
Thanks!
Why do I get a C.W. McCall vibe out of this song?
Is 611 being leased by the Strasburg railroad or something?
611 visited Strasburg for one month last fall. It has been stored in the roundhouse at the North Carolina Transportation Museum ever since.
We're moved the freight this country need.
Across the USA.
@@RebuffedGravyWe’re Cargo Moving People. From NW….Railway
How about the Southern Railway?
Who sings this theme??
Cw McCall
@@bweldon13 CW McCall was the stage name for Chip Davis, the director of Mannheim Steamroller.
Hello I’m JediMaster from MemeCorporation Inc. I see a great potential in this song for becoming a meme (ps: How did I even landed here I’m not even a rail fan LOL)
@@stuartadamsrailfanningvideos Thanks for the heads up. Why it took YT 6 month's to inform me... . CW McCall is William D. Fries. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C._W._McCall
I still refer to NS as N&W
Bro what's with 475 having the number 382???????
N&W 382 appeared in many famous photographs taken by O Winston Link when he visited the "Virginia Creeper" line. It was scrapped but 475 is of the same type so it has been redecorated on several occasions for photographers.
I didn't know Strasburg did that!
This bro is Casey Jones
Does anybody know where are the 611 is today?
In the roundhouse at the North Carolina Transportation Museum, she's been there since leaving Strasburg last year.
@@SmokyMtnSteam is she being kept there during the virus? Or is she coming back to Virginia?
@@rudycarlson8245 She'll return to Roanoke eventually, but the timetable is unknown. Likely they're waiting for a good opportunity to run her in Spencer again.
@@SmokyMtnSteam Thanks for the info!
@@SmokyMtnSteam is the 611 still at Strasburg?
Yyyaaaayy
Ya know, the song used here strikes me as having been written by someone who doesn't really know much about the railroad industry and its vocabulary. The word "Cargo" was used in the ocean shipping and air freight industries, not for railroad traffic. On the railroads and in the trucking industry, the things hauled were (and still are) referred to as "Freight." If you wanted to know the status of business in general, you would never ask a railroader or a trucker, "How's Cargo?" You would ask him, "How's Freight?" And his answer would be, "Freight is up" or "Freight is down." Before you romp on me for being a hyper-purist, talk to your neighborhood trucker, or better yet, go read the historical documents from the ICC (Interstate Commmerce Commission,) which regulated all haulage by rail, truck, air and water.
The general public is now entirely out-of-touch with everything railroad, and they only know us as the guys who block crossings. So it is only natural that the talking heads on the television screen should refer to railroads as "train companies," and to rail freight as "cargo" and make suchlike blunders. They just don't know any better...
How do I know this stuff...? Well, for starters, I worked in the business for 46 years.
I don't know who wrote it but the song was made for an official N&W ad campaign so someone at the railroad thought cargo an acceptable term
wanna skip? here 0:31
