One thing I do, to ensure I am not injured in case the trunk decides to splinter, is I wrap the trunk, above where the cut is, with a
tow strap. Tow straps are inexpensive, $20 or less, which is real cheap insurance, in case the trunk does decide to splinter.
Yep, it takes a couple more minutes but it could save weeks in a hospital and thousands of dollars in medical costs.

I'm a logger from Northern CA and we use "Humboldt" undercuts here so as to minimize wood waste on the butt log. But for a homeowner/amateur these instructions are fine. The only thing I would add is for the undercut I personally do the horizontal cut first then the angled cut as I find it's easier to aim the direction of fall and the cuts seem to line up more accurately than doing the angle cut first. Everyone is different but most guys I've seen do the horizontal cut first.

@@seanothemanproductions253 - I love trees. But there's one that's right by my driveway that really is starting to make things difficult. I'm thinking about chopping it. That's why I'm here.

I find this video very disturbing ! Again the human ego taking control over the other living beings we share our existence with . Trees have a network of connections with each other that run through the roots . They also communicate this way and when one tree is in drought they send water to other trees through there root systems with each other .They give us everything we need . Please don’t abuse your power on this planet 🙏❤️otherwise In not so many generations to come we could be facing even bigger problems . Respect the planet 🌎

so much missing safety information. please do not fell trees after just watching this video, for your own safety. also, chainsaws don't have blades, so if the guy is telling you it does, how much does he really know about felling trees???

Lot of trees are diseased, and if you don't cut them they will fall on your house or something else.

I live in western WA, grew up here, logging and now running my own tree service. This video would be OK if it was paired with an hour long tree felling safety basics and at the end in big bold letters said ⚠ WARNING ⚠ IF YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN PERSONALLY SHOWN ALL OF WHAT YOU'VE JUST WATCHED DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CUT DOWN TREES. There is SOOO much this video does not cover.....felling a tree is rarely ever as easy as 1 2 3 you're done and even if it is, without the knowledge of what can go wrong when you do this or don't do that, you're taking your life for granted and could kill yourself or someone else in the blink of an eye.
This video is like saying here's a gun...the bullets go in here and come out here if you pull the trigger here.....ok you're good to go have fun

This is not the safety felling technique, leave about a third of the felling cut behind and form the break strip. Then you put a felling wedge in the cut, then the last third can be cut. This ensures the highest controllability when a tree falls.
