I was born in Sheffield, but left with my parents 70 years ago. I still have strong nostalgic feelings about Sheffield. For some reason watching videos of Halifax gives me similar feelings. I am told I no longer have a Yorkshire accent but I still love Yorkshire after all these years.

Dear Barry Hodgson. I am an old person who left Yorkshire with my parents a long time ago. However, I am approaching the big 90 and love your Halifax videos. Please keep them coming.

My father worked at Dorlux as a driver. His name was John Taylor. Sadly he passed away last November with Leukaemia at age 75yrs. He loved driving trucks, it was his passion.

I started driving at Dorlux in 1971 until 1985 when every driver was made redundant. I seem to remember a John Taylor working in the warehouse but not as a driver. He used to pal around with Taffy Roberts (Neville) who was a frequent visitor to the Grand View pub.

Dear Barry, what a wonderful selection photographs. I grow up on
Shroggs Terrace below the park on a cobbled street. When I was a little my friend and I would go to the "Shears pub" to buy crisps and drinks. I walked around Wheatley and Ovenden as a girl. I would catch buses from Bank Top. I left Halifax to go to College and have not lived back there since. I now live in Los Angeles near Hollywood. Thank you Stella Rowe nee Conner.

Stella, thank you for sharing your memories. I used to help on a milk round around Ovenden and Wheatley back in the late 60's and 70's and we did deliver to Shroggs Terrace. There also used to be a chap named Wally who delivered newsparers in a barrow. Not sure if this would be in your era, but I would like to think I was responsible for delivering the milk that you perhaps poured on your cornflakes.

0:11 the number 9 to Raw Lane, this was the bus I'd take home to the last stop at Turner Avenue North just where the shops were. Nice memories. Thank you for the compilation

Thank you so much for this - it brought back many happy memories especially of the buses ( and that vintage single decker bus had a starring role in ‘The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie’, for which the film company repainted its livery in that smart maroon and white).

My father ( GGHilditch) seemed to be always having new buses about to test, but that one came from the London museum of transport, where we spent a very happy day sorting our which vehicles he was going to be loaned.

We had an Economic Stores across from our house in Great Horton, Bradford, in the 1950s. And Dorlux used to deliver to us when I worked at Discount Bedding and Furniture City in Halifax in the early 80s.. I often helped out for Jeffreys Removals back then too. Great pictures. This was Halifax as I remember it. Simpler times.

I remember the Economic van coming to our farm, Weatherhill above Cragg Vale although the van came up through Sowerby and onto Steep lane then up the hill past the Travelers arms. I think this was around 1962/3

That would be Mobile 1 when Darroll Bottomley was manager. You are perfectly correct in describing the route taken. I have a photo of Darroll and all the other mobile managers from 1963 which I put on facebook. If you would like a link to it let me know.

I worked as an assistant in the Northowram area in 1964. The round started in Marldon Road and Longfield Ave before heading up to the village.

We lived on Yew Trees Avenue until about 1966. www.flickr.com/photos/ruthhb/2918778968/in/photolist-67iS7e-5rR7xB-5c6dr2-5rVvij-5capM7-5rR5xi

We did go on Yew Trees Avenue. Can't recall any exact customers. We did have some regular customers further up at the end of Lands Head Lane where some old stone built cottages used to be.

I shouldn't think you would after all these years! I remember a range of mobile shops coming round - early Amazon?
Well, thank you for a good afternoon's nostalgia. It's set me off chasing all sorts of stuff online that has thoroughly entertained me, though not done much for my to-do list!

Not sure if you still live local, but sounds as if you have moved away. Another delivery firm was Baker's Basket who sold bread and other confectionary.
