Please, do a test S4 vs. S5 v. S5 Max vs. S6. :) Even Roborock on their own site does not have a good comparation of those current models... People, please thumb it up. :)
This was an INSANELY helpful review and solidified my choice for the S4; thank you so much for all of your hard work and dedication to aspects I never thought to consider or compare. Keep up the great work!
Be careful! The S4 doesn’t work on medium high carpet. I have the typical American carpet in my house and the S4 gets stuck for no reason in the middle of the carpet or makes weird movements. The brush gets stuck. Customer service acknowledged the flaw and said the S5 / S6 are designed for medium height carpet. The software is amazing though. The best I have seen. And it cleans hardwood flooring amazingly clean and fast.
One inaccurate statement in the video (they could have changed prior to production) the S4 dust bin, while longer than the S5 is actually smaller in volume, according to Roborock it is 420ml not 640ml.
I have never used the mopping attachment on my S5. It's just not practical for my layout. And the only complaint I had with S5 was the smallish bin. So I'd gladly take this cheaper version sans mopping attachment. Although, at $399 (minus $40 with that link to a coupon), it was no cheaper than my S5 on sale. But yeah, I'd take the bigger bin over the mop thingy any day.
The new rubber/silikon sidebrush broke after like 10 runs on my S6.. I don't know what the call them but the silikon "fingers" broke.. only got like 3 left in total..and can't find replacements anywhere... Just comes with the package. I love the mopping feature on the S6. No regrets :D.. I just wish they will release some update so it will sense carpet's during mopping. But that feature is probably on the S7 like rooms feature is on the S6 but not S5 (dont know about the S4) because of $$$.
Amazon Black Friday prices! I actually saw the S6 was only 89$ more the following week, so i bought that and am going to return the S5. The multi-room cleaning and multi floor maps make the extra 90 easy to swallow since i can use it on multiple floors!
I had a Neato D7 for about a month and returned it for the Roborock S4. Below were my deciding factors: 1. Roborock navigation is way more efficient and faster. 2. Roboroock does not get confused and stuck easily under chairs like the Neato. 3. Roborock does not bang into things and back up into things all the time like the Neato. 4. Roborock floorplan allows for any room shape compared to just square for Neato. 5. Roborock allows you to pick multiple rooms for one schedule, Neato only allows 1. 6. The Roborock does as good if not better at edge cleaning compared to the D shaped Neato. 7. The Roborock gets way less hair tangled in the brush compared to the Neato. All in all, the Roborock is just a better product. Neato has a good hardware design, but the software is behind in my opinion.

@@samdeur S4 and S6 seem to be almost the same on the software side and they both use the new standalone Roborock app (instead of Mi Home). For hardware, the S6 has a mop, and the S4 uses that space to make room for a larger dust bin (one reason I chose the Neato D7 over the S5 and S6 was bin size, so this was a big deal for me). And yes, Roborock is a subsidiary of Xiaomi, and pretty much the name they use outside of China it seems.
It should, it looks like Xiaomi is keeping this feature away from the S5 to force people to buy the S6... there is no hardware limitation preventing the S5 from getting this feature... it is something it should have always had... it is a pretty simple feature and it adds a lot of convenience
The problem I see here is that S5 has much lower hardware when it comes to CPU. The new generation (S6, Mijia 1S and S4 have a big upgrade and thanks to that they can handle such features).
You Fail to point out that it gets stuck on carpet. Day 1 with the s4 and it can’t last a minute on carpet without getting error6. NEither low pile or medium. Very disappointed. Also Hundreds of reviews on amazon stating so.
This is simply not true. I think it depends on your carpet. Berber and Shag will likely have problems. It vacuums my carpet just fine and leaves beautiful lines. I have standard medium grade, short pile carpet. Similar to builders grade but a step or two up.
Roborock currently has a $40 off coupon on Amazon for this, maybe to celebrate launch? This literally has a much bigger dust bin than the S6, nearly double battery life, stronger suction, transparent glass on top, and better placement of brush roll. All for half the price. You do lose the gimmicky mop but a Swiffer is $30 cmon.
T- Smooth In the real world you’ll not experience any difference unless you have carpets, so I’ll gladly save €1000. I’m really impressed with the Xiaomi/Roborocks. I’ve not heard of quality issues either. But to each his own.
Xiaomi's product naming is weird and confuses the hell out of potential buyers. Around here the S5 (also called the S5 international edition) is the S4 for you, the S5 for you is the S50 here, and the S6 is the S6 everywhere.
@@MartyNguyen611 From what I understand the S4 (USA) / S5 (EU) -> dry vacuum, S5 (USA)/S50 (EU) -> mopping vacuum, S6(USA)/S6(EU) -> dry vacuum again with minor upgrades. Or if you're still confused just treat them like a furry animal (dog, cat, mouse, etc), flip it upside down and look to see if it has a mop on the bottom :P

Hello. Did I understand correctly that if you put the center brush on the S6 from the S50, will cleaning be better? And why does 6 have a flow rate of 15 CFM and S4 has 19 CFM ?? Maybe it's a Hepa Filter?
My floors are not all the same hight, between the living room and the rooms I have almost 2cm(0.78in). Can you test this to? In Northern Europe I think a lot of people have the same problem. Thanks.
The Roborock S4 has a reduced crossing ability of 15 mm (0.6 in). It can cross some obstacles that might be a bit taller but it would take more time for the robot to do so.

Attention. Roborock has released the S4 without new firmware. Customers complain that the S4 does not suck on the carpet. Customers report that the brush does not rotate or become stuck every 5 minutes. The solution is to upgrade the firmware at the customer's request via email. Also the firmware upgrade brings multiroom mapping. Roborock also realized that they were getting bad ratings on amazon, so they put together reviews of s50 and s4. And now the S4 has over 200 reviews instead of 16. Mostly positive of course. Quite a wise but not very moral move.
Have you had any experience with the roborock S4 getting stuck on carpet? I just purchased it. Great experience as it mapped the main level of my house for tile and wood floor. It didn't get up on the center rug which did not surprise me as my Roomba was not able to do that either. When it came to the carpet, the roborock was fine on carpet in the hallway and guest rooms. When it came to the master bedroom, which I thought was the same carpet, the s4 gets stuck every time. Help!
I got one of these after I gave up on my Botvac D3. This unit is SOOO much less clumsy and the app has quite a few more useful features. Also, it doesn't rub its butt on the walls and furniture like the Botvac. XD
What's the difference between this and the original Xiaomi Mi vacuum? I thought that was also considered the S4. Do you know if the original Xiaomi Mi vacuum can connect to the Roborock app to get the additional mapping features?
Another test should include running the vac continually for several months. How long the machine lasts is an important factor to consider before spending several hundred dollars.

I was a bit upset when I just saw this video, as I recently ordered the S6 from the Roborock Australia website, and it is due to arrive any day now. However, upon looking at the website again, it seems the S4 is not listed. Perhaps it is only available in certain countries? Here I was thinking that I made an expensive mistake ordering the S6. I did get a nice discount with the Black Friday sale they have going, which took 25% off the price. I'm sure I will be very happy with it. But if the S4 is a lot cheaper and performs just as well, then I'd probably feel like I made a mistake.
Thanks to your advice upgraded to the S4, highly satisfied. It’s really smarter than our Roomba 670 that used to get stuck very often and just bumped against everything without a clear pattern. The s4 gets more efficient with every use, follows an organized pattern and never gets stuck. The option to vacuum just designated zones using the app is great.
Great video as always! Thank you! What's the difference between the S4 and the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum 1st gen? They look almost identical to me, apparently they carry the exact same dust bin, brush size (but with more bristles). They even carry the same inverted wheel problem that was fixed on the S5 and now it seems it's back on the S4. Also, can I use these new main and side brushes on my 1st gen? It looks like they fit.
The Mi Robot has 1,800 Pa vs. 2,000 Pa in the Roborock S4. Also the filter in the Roborock can be washed with water which leads to stronger suction and longer life. The Roborock has virtual no-go zones, zoned cleaning and room cleaning while the Mi Robot only has zoned cleaning. The Roborock brush has detachable tips which is better for long hair. The dustbin in the Roborock S4 is also bigger. Overall, the Roborock S4 is a huge step forward compared to the Xiaomi Mi Robot.
There are indeed some upgrades, but I just can’t see a “huge step forward” watching this review. I have the 1st gen vacuum going strong since 2016 and I was waiting a newer version without the mop to upgrade. The power increase has no practical use to me, as I use it for pet hair basically, so 1800pa is way more than enough. As for the filters and brushes, they seem to be interchangeable, as I use the S50 washable filter on my vacuum. And the main problem is that it has the inverted wheels just like mine, so the major upgrade I was waiting didn’t happen, keeping the same problem the 1st gen has. Just like the iphone Xs Max to the 11 max, seems like it’s not worth the upgrade for now, at least imo.

The smart features would be nice to have, like the virtual barriers, but it’s just not enough to upgrade imho. I just can’t understand why they kept the inverted wheels that were heavily criticized back then and fixed on the S50. That was absolutely the most important thing to add/keep on this S4 version imo. That was an incredible step backward I wasn’t expecting to see again on a brand new 2019 vacuum. For now I’ll keep my 1st gen and buy the S4 brushes. The batteries are amazing, I thought they would fail after 2 years or so, but they still hold charge and work flawlessly.
Wait about a month and it will be on sale in the EU and on aliexpres. It will first appear on aliepress without eu support but will later be shipped from Poland, Spain. All within about max 2 months. So it was with the S6.

Ok they don’t have this figured out for different levels but it does say share s4 with a friend ....so I think if you can share it just call the friend a room and that should work ....I would think if you could share it would map out the house on the friends app ...which would be your app... maybe? Big sales happening for Black Friday and I can't decide between the S4 ($299) and S5 ($359) which are basically the same price as far as I'm concerned. I have an S5 now which seems great on hardwood (1st floor) but just ok on carpet (2nd floor). Or...maybe go for $440 MORE for the Deebot 950 which is supposed to be more powerful for carpets... Any advice?
has anyone noticed the brushes stop spinning like 75% of the time? This is the second roborock ive had this issue with. I just have regular medium pile carpet.
This vacuum is so amazing. I've only had it a few days, but I dont have a single complaint. Well....I wish it would notify you when the bin is full, but oh well.....I'll just check it every few days.
This IS the droid I've been looking for. I was set to buy the S5 when this review popped up in my RUclips feed. I never wanted the mopping function anyway and getting a $40 off coupon on Amazon brought the S4 price down to $359, a no brainer. I ordered it the next day and received it this past Wednesday. After using it for 4 days I have to say I am extremely happy with the purchase. I have an old iRobot 860 that still functions okay, but the navigation and raw cleaning power of the S4 blows it away. I haven't used the scheduling function yet in the app, but have started the robot cleaning from work using my iPhone. Two thumbs up! Oh, I also wanted to mention that this robot seems to work well on both solid black carpet and a dark navy rug with floral designs in it. The 860 never worked on those until I disabled the cliff sensors.

The price on Amazon was $429, but the were offering a $150 off coupon. Not sure if the coupon is still available, but if it is, you should jump on it, in my opinion.
What is the differents with Xiaomi Miija 1s? Roborock and Miija are brand under Xiaomi. The Xiaomi world start to be confused, too much items in the same category
Hey there, Got a question for you. Have the filters brushes etc. the same specs as the S5 model? I can't seem to find extra filters for S4 on amazon. Can I buy the accessories compatible with S5 and use them on S4?
But you can fit the new brush models on s5 too. Is It fair to count them as + over s5 if you can just buy them afterwards since you have to regularly change them anyway.
It's clear you put in a lot of effort. I understand you try to appear objective in your testing. I would like to see more real world tests, such as mapping an entire floor, how long it takes to learn the floor plan, etc.
OK so I watch your videos on all these vacuum robot and decided I would like to have the S4. Well the S5 came down to the same price as the S4 (399)so I bought the S5 then the next day the S4 dropped to $329 so I canceled my order on the S5 and bought the S4. Just picked up an S5 for the same price retail as the S4. This makes me feel like it was the right decision even if i never use the mop.

Have you had any experience with the roborock S4 getting stuck on carpet? I just purchased it. Great experience as it mapped the main level of my house for tile and wood floor. It didn't get up on the center rug which did not surprise me as my Roomba was not able to do that either.
When it came to the carpet, the roborock was fine on carpet in the hallway and guest rooms. When it came to the master bedroom, which I thought was the same carpet, the s4 gets stuck every time. Help!
RebeccaD02 lots of people are saying it’s not good on medium and thick carpets. I have a NEATO D3 and it’s great on plush carpets.
I got one of these after I gave up on my Botvac D3. This unit is SOOO much less clumsy and the app has quite a few more useful features. Also, it doesn't rub its butt on the walls and furniture like the Botvac. XD
What's the difference between this and the original Xiaomi Mi vacuum? I thought that was also considered the S4. Do you know if the original Xiaomi Mi vacuum can connect to the Roborock app to get the additional mapping features?

Another test should include running the vac continually for several months. How long the machine lasts is an important factor to consider before spending several hundred dollars.
There's a new model my brother purchased at a Xiaomi store in china STYJ02YM, 2100Pa, comes with 2 tanks, 2in1 dust/water and a gigantic 550ml dust bin only, reversing/mopping with flow control, 2cm climb, has tiny dock, older style 3 leggged side brushes with bristles and smaller 3200mAh battery/110 mins, cheap at 1800-2000 RMB

Xiaomi should stop trying to force people to get the S6 by not releasing the specific room cleaning schedule feature for the S5, there is literally no hardware limitation on the S5 that prevents it from having such feature....

The biggest feature for me is still, that i can root the s5 and throw everything with the xiaomi cloud out.

I was a bit upset when I just saw this video, as I recently ordered the S6 from the Roborock Australia website, and it is due to arrive any day now.
However, upon looking at the website again, it seems the S4 is not listed. Perhaps it is only available in certain countries? Here I was thinking that I made an expensive mistake ordering the S6. I did get a nice discount with the Black Friday sale they have going, which took 25% off the price. I'm sure I will be very happy with it. But if the S4 is a lot cheaper and performs just as well, then I'd probably feel like I made a mistake.

Thanks to your advice upgraded to the S4, highly satisfied. It’s really smarter than our Roomba 670 that used to get stuck very often and just bumped against everything without a clear pattern. The s4 gets more efficient with every use, follows an organized pattern and never gets stuck. The option to vacuum just designated zones using the app is great.
Disappointing how it doesn't get close to the edges of a room or an island. Is there a way to force it close to the edges? Would rather not return.

Great video as always! Thank you! What's the difference between the S4 and the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum 1st gen? They look almost identical to me, apparently they carry the exact same dust bin, brush size (but with more bristles). They even carry the same inverted wheel problem that was fixed on the S5 and now it seems it's back on the S4. Also, can I use these new main and side brushes on my 1st gen? It looks like they fit.
More power, more software features, distribution by Roborock rather than by Xiaomi.
The Mi Robot has 1,800 Pa vs. 2,000 Pa in the Roborock S4. Also the filter in the Roborock can be washed with water which leads to stronger suction and longer life. The Roborock has virtual no-go zones, zoned cleaning and room cleaning while the Mi Robot only has zoned cleaning. The Roborock brush has detachable tips which is better for long hair. The dustbin in the Roborock S4 is also bigger. Overall, the Roborock S4 is a huge step forward compared to the Xiaomi Mi Robot.
There are indeed some upgrades, but I just can’t see a “huge step forward” watching this review. I have the 1st gen vacuum going strong since 2016 and I was waiting a newer version without the mop to upgrade. The power increase has no practical use to me, as I use it for pet hair basically, so 1800pa is way more than enough. As for the filters and brushes, they seem to be interchangeable, as I use the S50 washable filter on my vacuum. And the main problem is that it has the inverted wheels just like mine, so the major upgrade I was waiting didn’t happen, keeping the same problem the 1st gen has. Just like the iphone Xs Max to the 11 max, seems like it’s not worth the upgrade for now, at least imo.
@@Iversonfr1985 you didn't mention smart features the Xiaomi does not have though if you don't use the app too often it might not be a big deal in your case
The smart features would be nice to have, like the virtual barriers, but it’s just not enough to upgrade imho. I just can’t understand why they kept the inverted wheels that were heavily criticized back then and fixed on the S50. That was absolutely the most important thing to add/keep on this S4 version imo. That was an incredible step backward I wasn’t expecting to see again on a brand new 2019 vacuum. For now I’ll keep my 1st gen and buy the S4 brushes. The batteries are amazing, I thought they would fail after 2 years or so, but they still hold charge and work flawlessly.

Wait about a month and it will be on sale in the EU and on aliexpres. It will first appear on aliepress without eu support but will later be shipped from Poland, Spain. All within about max 2 months. So it was with the S6.

Very bad navigation on carpet, even low pile. Roborock support even says this. It seems lost, going in circles and eventually throws errors.

Ok they don’t have this figured out for different levels but it does say share s4 with a friend ....so I think if you can share it just call the friend a room and that should work ....I would think if you could share it would map out the house on the friends app ...which would be your app... maybe? Big sales happening for Black Friday and I can't decide between the S4 ($299) and S5 ($359) which are basically the same price as far as I'm concerned. I have an S5 now which seems great on hardwood (1st floor) but just ok on carpet (2nd floor). Or...maybe go for $440 MORE for the Deebot 950 which is supposed to be more powerful for carpets... Any advice?

has anyone noticed the brushes stop spinning like 75% of the time? This is the second roborock ive had this issue with. I just have regular medium pile carpet.
This vacuum is so amazing. I've only had it a few days, but I dont have a single complaint. Well....I wish it would notify you when the bin is full, but oh well.....I'll just check it every few days.
First clean in bedroom and error 5 happened...wife's 3 ft long hair got the brush stuck haha...try longer hair for your tests...

This IS the droid I've been looking for. I was set to buy the S5 when this review popped up in my RUclips feed. I never wanted the mopping function anyway and getting a $40 off coupon on Amazon brought the S4 price down to $359, a no brainer. I ordered it the next day and received it this past Wednesday. After using it for 4 days I have to say I am extremely happy with the purchase. I have an old iRobot 860 that still functions okay, but the navigation and raw cleaning power of the S4 blows it away. I haven't used the scheduling function yet in the app, but have started the robot cleaning from work using my iPhone. Two thumbs up!
Oh, I also wanted to mention that this robot seems to work well on both solid black carpet and a dark navy rug with floral designs in it. The 860 never worked on those until I disabled the cliff sensors.

The price on Amazon was $429, but the were offering a $150 off coupon. Not sure if the coupon is still available, but if it is, you should jump on it, in my opinion.
What is the differents with Xiaomi Miija 1s? Roborock and Miija are brand under Xiaomi. The Xiaomi world start to be confused, too much items in the same category

But you can fit the new brush models on s5 too. Is It fair to count them as + over s5 if you can just buy them afterwards since you have to regularly change them anyway.

It's clear you put in a lot of effort. I understand you try to appear objective in your testing. I would like to see more real world tests, such as mapping an entire floor, how long it takes to learn the floor plan, etc.
OK so I watch your videos on all these vacuum robot and decided I would like to have the S4. Well the S5 came down to the same price as the S4 (399)so I bought the S5 then the next day the S4 dropped to $329 so I canceled my order on the S5 and bought the S4. I can do without the mop feature. Thanks for doing the video you helped me tremendously on making a decision.

Do you feel like it would be a mistake to pass up on the mopping? Also looking ar around 2400 sq ft of hard wood floor, mostly open floor plan. I understand it probably does not replace the need for a mop but does it help maintain an extra level of cleanliness?

It has the same features the S6 does. The S4 supports both the Mi Home and Roborock apps.

So between the s4 and neato d4 which is the favorite?
I had a Neato D7 and returned it for the Roborock S4, so I would go with the Roborock S4 over the D4 for sure. Below were my deciding factors:
1. Roborock navigation is way more efficient and faster.
2. Roboroock does not get confused and stuck easily under chairs like the Neato.
3. Roborock does not bang into things and back up into things all the time like the Neato.
4. Roborock floorplan allows for any room shape compared to just square for Neato.
5. Roborock allows you to pick multiple rooms for one schedule, Neato only allows 1.
6. The Roborock does as good if not better at edge cleaning compared to the D shaped Neato.
7. The Roborock gets way less hair tangled in the brush compared to the Neato.
All in all, the Roborock is just a better product. Neato has a good hardware design, but the software is behind in my opinion.
