A. Piazzolla: Café 1930 from Histoire du Tango, played by Chloe Chua (violin) & Kevin Loh (guitar)

- Опубликовано: 10 дек 2021
- Recording the Cafe 1930 with Kevin for the second time has brought back a lot of fond memory while I was preparing for the Menuhin Competition (Geneva) in 2018. I gave my debut recital in Singapore on 28 March 2018 as a warm up for the competition and this is one of the pieces that I played during then. I had received tremendous encouragement and support from the audience which had strengthened my confidence to participate in the competition. I am very grateful to Menuhin Competition for awarding me joint first prize and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the audience at my debut recital back then for their encouragement, as well as my RUclips Subscribers and viewers now for your continual support. Hope that you like this different interpretation of Cafe 1930 and please stayed tune for Nightclub 1960 which will be premiered next week same time on 18 Dec 2021.
Cafe 1930 is another age of the tango. People preferred to listening rather than dancing to it. It became more romantic and intense in character, often adopting a slower tempo with melancholic harmonies. Tangos are sometimes sung as well.

Last but not least, Kevin Loh for organizing the project and the wonderful collaboration.
We are all very proud of you Chloe! It was our honour to award you joint Junior 1st Prize and we have been delighted to see how much you have continued to develop since then. We can't wait to continue following your career and enjoying your music!
I like that Menuhin Competition si still following and encouraging Chloe. On the other hand Chloe's final Vivaldi was degraded by audience interrupting her after each movement. It was a bit embarassing wasn't it.

I guess it isnt exactly that bad, at least not in the middle of a movement, in between movements can be kinda annoying, but hey, its better than yt ads popping up in the middle of Mendelssohn violin concerto every 3 mins. I restarted that video about 5 times b4 i gave up. :D

this is how it should look like :) There are 1500 people in Maison de la Radio in Paris... no one dares to do it :D
@@rofo2107 ig u dont have to be too nitpicky? Not everyone knows courtesy
How much she has developed?? Now you are thinking traditional. A child should not be able to do this and therefore must develop:) I guarantee she could have done the same at that age. Thats how it is about the real genious's They not fit in schemes. But sooo correct of you to write that
Chloe's performance is great. Also, please don't overlook the wonderful work of the guitarist. Very expressive playing.
Both musicians are absolute virtuosos
What was His name? I agree- his playing was nuanced , tranquil, fluid- very restful. Thank-you, sir!

It's so intense that it hurts me. It' not easy to understand how a little girl like Chloe has captured the deep melancholy of Piazzolla's piece. Absolutely amazing.
What I love most about the playing of Chloe Chua is her patience. She takes her time for every note to be right, and since she is quick if she wants to, she has that time to prepare for that next note. Every performance of her I've seen, breathes.
I know this is Chloe’s channel and all, but this song is literally what inspired me to buy a classical guitar a few months ago. The guitarist is amazing!
The guitarist is Kevin Loh. He is indeed a really excellent guitarist, and has his own YT channel, stacked with videos of superb performances.
Happily, he and Chloe plan to collaborate again I understand.
(Good luck with the guitar!)
Amen to that. Just excellent technique and gobs of emotion and expression.
Kevin Loh.
Same. I stopped playing guitar for 6 years and this song made me start playing it again.
They're not performing .... they're worshiping. And transporting the listener to a special place.
kevin loh is such a freaking boss at guitar. god damn.
Part of the magic of these moments is the skill of the videographer and sound engineer to place us in front of the performers as if we were in the room with them. Visually and aurally we are settled, relaxed and able to absorb the performance completely. We are undistracted by any artifice of the technical elements of the production. The people who gave us front-row seats served these remarkable musicians remarkably well.
Totally agreed. Good setup work and excellent musicians.
Congratulations once again Chloe & Kevin!!! Please organise a LIVE! concert!
Haha I can do the ushering or be crew!
Chloe's interpretation and musicality are, of course, almost beyond description. Kevin's guitar is fully the equal of Chloe's violin. They have been performing this piece for several years and their practice time has been very well spent. Aurally, visually, in every way, this is the most beautiful duet I have seen.
Bravissimo to you both.
P.S. Your decision to wear period-appropriate apparel was brilliant.
I'm just impressed, don't have any words to describe this feeling.
i wish this was on spotify, truly my favorite rendition
it is in spotify
@@MarialyGarcia130the one played by Chloe Chua and Kevin Loh? I only see ones played by others.
Chloe has a very beautiful tone. Compared to her previous version, I prefer this slower version of Cafe 1930.
Beautiful music performed by a diamond team. Shows Singapore is much more than just kiasu.
This was one of my favorite pieces from Astor Piazolla. I'm more than happy that Professor Chloe is performing it!
Chloe Chua and Kevin Loh looks very classy and simple here !! They both look magnificent. :)
I also love her outfit, I never expected her to wear a different clothing - She looks very gorgeous and the hairstyle is cute !!
Chloe's violin playing is always very remarkable, I love her tempo in Café 1930 !! Slow and relaxing just like you would hear in a café. And their interpretation of the piece is just perfect.
I am really thankful that I can hear and see this for free, it almost feels illegal because it is a marvellous recording and videography !! 🌸

Class, I really love this piece and try to play it myself on the violin, this is certainly very far from such an ideal. And also I love Argentine tango and I understand what movements in this dance are and how passionate and emotional the dance is. The café of the time is quite appropriate for this slow and laid-back game. Piazzolla is a brilliant composer! I think that Histoire du Tango's work is underestimated and unfortunately not very popular, although it sounds very nice. Fortunately, sometimes it is played by such cool performers and it pleases and warms the soul.
Yeah, Both beautifully dressed and playing beautiful music The perfect combination.
I'm not sure why the person running this channel did not add a _'Super Thanks'_ button. For fans, it's a great way to express appreciation and show their support for the artiste. If this channel is monetised, it shouldn't be difficult at all.
I'm happy that this recording was created. On the other hand (as I said many times before) Chloe is that super rare musician who has the God's voice and bares the Holy fire.
She is not just a musician or talented musician or anything like that.
With all the respect to the Menuhin Competition which awarded joint 1st price to her and with all the respect to Christian they are not on the same level and they never were.
Christian can be very good but it will be a tragedy if Chloe would not be able to develop her talent to the full extent because of the COVID situation and other contributing aspects.
She is the chosen one who could be on pair with Titans like Maxim Vengerov, HIlary Hahn, Julia Fischer, Midori Goto and others.
The only thing she needs is performing regularly with good orchestras and got experience of being a soloist in a good orchestra with a good conductor.
All those Titans I mentioned above started very early, for example:
Hilary debuted 11 years old and she played Beethoven concert with Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra when she was 15
It was broadcaste all over the Europe.
Maxim got his 1st proffessional contract when he was 16
Julia performed with Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra orchestra when she was 14
Midori ... should I really mention her concert with Leonard Bernstein ? I think it is not necessary. She was 14 when she made headlines in New York Times
Now Chloe is reaching that critical age and it is now or never.
I hope, I really hope she will not be playing duets with guitar and that she got the opportunity she deserves - to play 1st class music as a world class soloist.
And yes her dress was quite OK ....I don't think it is important but it was OK.
@@rofo2107 you probably dont mean it, but u sound like you look down on guitar duets. Its nothing bad, and it sounds nice as well. I understand that you want her to have the best experience, but your word are quite misleading
@@develmaxI have a piece that is a Argentine tango person made.
Called El Choclo Grade 6
The recording quality is outstanding as are the performances. I've lost count of the numbers of times I have played this already.
How fortunate these two, very fine players have found each other. She has such beautiful tone, and he is wonderful.
When I lose the will to live, musicians like these give me a shred of peace.
M'y daughter (flûte) and me (piano) played that piece but your interpretation is really amazing. Thank you for this jewel.
Piazolla’s music and a classical guitar is a match made in heaven. Wonderful playing from Chloe as well. I saw her on a TwoSet Video for the first time just yesterday- how fortunate I was to stumble on this performance!
I have an overdose of Piazzolla in my veins, Chloe, I think you are argentine, what a interpretation! its a caress to the soul. Congrats from Arg.
In addition to the exceptional musical performance as a teacher of photographic lighting and I’d like to complement whoever it was who designed the lighting and captured the performances in this series.
Chloe is such an amazing violinist and her interpretation is quite unique. I've watched her mature as a violinist but also from a girl into a young lady. She is a very impressive person. Good luck to you Chloe.
Chloe being Chole, my ears are pleased, my eyes in tears 😭
Ms. Chloe Chua sounds and plays like a true violin Virtuoso with the great guitar accomaniment!
Beautiful Music!!!!!!!!!
2:10 is perfect in every way....just wow...this recording is by far my favorite of the piece!! Just cannot express how well played this is
Wundervoll! Chloe und Kevin, ihr seid ein Traum-Team. Herzliche Grüße aus Berlin
I have no words seriously. This is as close to perfection as it gets.
She's talented and beautiful. Love her outfit, makeup and hairdo.
Dark green suits her so well. And her signature bangs are perfect. She is growing more beautiful by every day :)
Breathtaking.
聽完之後我才意會到 所謂的扣人心弦 在兩位的演奏當中 就是最好的詮釋。
EXCELENTE, HAN DESCUBIERTO EL ESPIRITU DE ESTA MUSICA, SUENAN A BUENOS AIRES

Young but very mature musicians playing here... Bravo to both, excellent interpretation.
While the James Web Space Telescope is soon to launch and expand our understanding of the beauty that surrounds us in the heavens, here is music that provides near indescribable beauty for us and within us here on earth. Thank you, Chloe and Kevin.
Chloe, I'm listening to you from Japan. The first time I found you playing was Vivaldi's Four Seasons, but recently I've been listening to two versions of Piazzolla's ,especially 1930, in turn, when you were very young, oh you're still very young. But I love them both. I don't think there's ever been, and probably will always so, such a delicate performance.
100% beautiful, heartfelt, soulful! I hope to choreograph and perform to this someday. Ty for sharing this treasure.
I hope you choreograph and perform not just this but the whole Histoire du Tango. Chloe and Kevin's performance of the other three parts of it are equally wonderful!
4:42 to 5:12 ... This sounds so good!
This is so good. I'm literally in tears when I heard this beautiful piece Professor Chloe. You and Kevin really nailed it from start to finish. So many beautiful emotions and colors that I can see in your playing. Chloe I am your undying fan from the Philippines. I could already build my playlist of your pieces and listen to them while working. It's actually a good piece for meditation and concentration. Thank you so much for this early Christmas gift of classical music.
"early Christmas gift of classical music" sounds very accurate =)
Professor Chloe haha🤣🤣
It's so delightful to see a Filipino fan of Chloe's!

This is one of my favorite pieces! I never expected Chloe Chua would play it 😍
Thank you.
Chloe performed it at least twice in 2018, albeit very differently.
I think she did so most beautifully in the Menuhin competition semi-final

Thank you for the beautiful performance and energies... Cheers!!
This is truely beautiful. For me this is absolutely magical music. I wonder what Bach would think if he was here to experience this performance. I feel that he would be stunned.
Brilliant play
This is really soothing
Such emotional depth and intensity, and the technical mastery to express it, is always a marvel.
But in one so young, it is truly miraculous.
I've lost count of the numbers of times I have listen you outstanding performance.
Wow! Just wow!

I was like, I wonder If Chloe has played one if my favourite songs. HERE IT IS
Fields... rolling hills with long grass swaying in the wind... a small home... a family...
That's what the second song brings to mind... thank you both. Wonderful, wonderful...
Beautiful playing!
Desde Argentina les doy las gracias.
bravo, quelle délicatesse dans l interprétation.
You were the first person I ever heard play this piece, and it instantly became a favorite. I have to say that the expressiveness, and delicate touch in your playing is phenomenal. The guitar was fantastic as well. An all around joy to listen to. Thanks for uploading.
It's been on a loop since I discovered this gem of a duet. There are many versions of this emotional piece but this is by far the utmost best beautifully interpreted by Kevin Loh and Chloe Chua.
For real doe
So beatiful. So inspiring. Thanks from Brazil. Bravo!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
please play more piazzolla!!! I am so amazed by your music, CHloe!
The more you grow, the more masterful you become, and that is what you both are... Magnificent interpretation!! 😎👏👑
I ADORE THIS PIECE!!!
Wonderful
Who else here is sad that they missed the premier even with the reminder. Before moving on I want to say thank you as you have inspired me and I know play the violin.
Perfect playing. Both musicians captured the spirit that Piazzolla wanted to convey... Congrats!!!
Very classy performance from both performers. 👀😊👍

Conoci a Piazzola lo escuché tocar en varias oportunidades....estaria tan orgulloso de escuchar a estos dos hermosos musicos tan jovenes y talentosos lll
Highest level interpretation I heard this Tango. Both musicians are super talented and well educated. Thanks.
What a sense of music! What a musical taste! What a balance between passion, peace and joy! Great camera, sound, great 2 young talented people and... Piazzolla! Thank you!

Bravo!!!
This is probably the most beautiful thing I've ever listened to.
Wow, chills
Wonderful!
Congratulations Chloe Chua!! Your arrangement of Piazzolla was extraordinary and the violin emits a beautiful sound!
Once you introduced this piece to me I couldn't stop listening to the both of you playing
Beautiful, brilliant, and bewildering
i discovered this piece thanks to her and im learning it on the piano
but i hope one day i could play it on violin it s way more emotional
Awesome performance!!! Thank you, youtube algorithm. Hope you do "Invierno Porteño" some day.
Chloe gave a scintillating and very spicy performance of "Otoño Porteño" with the China Philharmonic two years ago, when she was just 12.

Also, this Cafe 1930 was taken from a complete performance of the whole Histoire du Tango cycle. It too is on her YT channel (and on Kevin's).
Love the perfection in the harmonics of the duo. Just beautifully done
Fantasztikus, gyönyörű ❤️😊🙏
Absolutely wonderful
This is my favorite recording of Cafe 1930, I’m performing it with my Dad soon so I was looking around for recordings and this is the best one I’ve found besides the past 2018 recording you both did. It was amazing :D
Merci Chloé, pour ce joli et émotionnel cadeau de Noël. 👏👏👏👏
Простите меня, я не понимаю в музыке.Но это так красиво, хорошо и глубоко и оригинально! Такие молодые и идут по пути истины!
It was so heart touching that i cried.
I want to say that as classical guitarist kevin's playing is admirable and so clean and full of emotions, and chloe is a magical girl ♥️ loved it so much thank u for letting us hear something so magical

I know everyone is here for Chloe because her skill is mind breaking but as a classical guitarist, I’m just so happy hearing the guitar haha

I love it!!! This so lovely :0 . That would be so nice to have a collection (or as we call it nowadays an album) of this duo, Chloe Chua and Kevin Loh! As written in the description, there is a suite to this, so I can't wait to listent to all your interpretations!
She had released a audio recording
Bellísima pieza. Dos virtuosos y Chloe, una diosa encarnada que nos mata de Amor con su violín....🙏❤️🙏
Yall need to get these recordings on Apple Music and Spotify this is too good.
Piazzolla would have been proud.
