You might be the best Gimp Tutorial Channel on youtube, your very concise, succinct and professional. You should probably win some kind of award for best Tutorials on youtube. I'm not just saying that to get more subscribers, I genuinely mean that. Its refreshing to see well done tutorials after wading thru countless hours of verbose nonsense.
So thankful for this video. Wanted to be able to sketch a photo to paint later, and this is perfect for this. Found similar thing years ago in photoshop, but this works like a charm! Thank you for being so clear.
Great video. I've been using Gimp successfully for many years, but your videos have opened up so many more areas of knowledge for me. Thanks. For the grey area removal, on my particular image I found it easier to use the Colour Select tool and paint over certain sections where I needed the grey removed. Depends on the image, though.
You English is great. Please never apologise for your English. I hear so many people apologising 'sorry my bad english', honestly, we should apologise to you. I only speak one language, we are the ones who need to learn other languages. If anything, I want to send you a virtual 'Hi 5' for being able to speak two languages. We are the dumbass's. lol (Ranting) Love this tutorial. This is my go to technique at the moment. Thanks so much, I love it. I made a drawing of my girlfriend, she posted it on facebook saying ' look what Steve drew'......NO!....don't say I drew it. LOL. Everyone was impressed. Most people thought I drew it by hand, even though I clearly printed my name at the bottom as apposed to signing a hand drawn image. One interesting comment, however. One lady, only later realising that it was done digitally, almost rubbished the image, as if somehow digital art is not real art. These same people would have no music if digital art vanished. People! :) Edit: Fix spelling errors and typos. A thankless task.
Hi. I would like to ask you something. Do the finished pictures look good when they are printed? Or do they get distorted? I would love to show you some of my work to ask your opinion. If you would like to please add me on facebook/orban.timea Thank you very much!
Hi Timea Love&Light. I'd like to see your work, but I can't find you on Facebook... sorry. Links don't work in comments (spam). You can however send me a private message with a link, via my channel under 'about' and then sent mesage. And yes, they get distorted when you make a large print, but it depends on size, resolutie, type of image, so you have to try to see what is acceptable. Hope this helps... Have a nice day!
thank you so much. this requires attention to detail and also to be your own artist. don't have to be "perfect". do your perfect and be happy with what you make.
Hello Sir, would you be kind enough to tell me what is the translation of the word "dodge" in French in the version gimp 2.10 because there is nothing close to this word, which in French means "esquiver" ? I thank you for your answer, and I wanted to tell you that your tutorials are beautiful, thank you very much
Hi Véronique Pattinson.😄 I myself am Dutch and the translation from 'dodge' into the Dutch lanquage is also a bit inaccurate. It would be the equivalent of 'evade' in English. But... 'dodge' in Gimp means that you make the area lighter as opposed to 'burn' wich means makes it darker. I hope that this helps you. And thank you for your kind words about the tuts.👌 I am glad you enjoy them. Have a great day. Jan.
you must be good at drawing - so easily you did the eye work. but for non-artists like me, i am sure there must be an easy way - after all, you are changing colors to a grayscale image - just black and white, there must be a simple way.
Hi alxndrdg8 😃 You are right, you might want to try this one: ruclips.net/video/AbSsv6_Rimc/видео.html Maybe the endresult is not as beautiful, but still very nice I think and just straight forward technique. Have a great day and, thanks for your input 👍 Jan.
You're the Boss! Thank you for showing how quickly this can be done, I have used Layers in drawing applications but not sure exactly how they work in Gimp, I know that you made 3 layers but I have seen other videos where they delete layers or make them 'transparent' but you didn't do that, so still very confused with what is basic.
Great tutorial. Very unique voice. Thanks. Keep up the good work. I'm using gimp 10 on Windows 7 can expand window and preview. Any tips and can you also show how to make cartoon character from pencil sketch?
Hi Wow!!! Thanks for your nice comment. I am glad you like the video. 😄 I am not sure what you'r question is about the window and the preview... There is no tutorial about a cartoon from a pencil (yet) 😕 But maybe you like this one: ruclips.net/video/P-fSzJhoLVU/видео.html Best, Jan, GW.
I was looking for the same effect on animals, since they are hairy, how do we do when it's time to 'clean' it up? Sorry, not sure how to ask this question (Brazilian speaking). Thanks a lot for this great tutorial!
Hello, this is a very good video thank you. Is there a way to convert this file to png. i.e. So that you can put the sketch on any background and only have the lines of the drawings no white or light grey colour?
That's nice 👍I have heard from several Gimpers that if you follow the tutorials carefully, you will learn all sorts of things along the way and step by step become more skilled. I hope you have a lot of fun and don't hesitate to ask if problems occur. I wil try my best to answer them as good as I can. Enjoy. 😃
Dear sir, I would like to ask your suggestions for editing something. I have JPG files of black and white mandala patterns (combinations of geometric shapes), which I designed on various websites and downloaded. Some of the shapes are not equal in line size and in colour (either black, or light grayish) and I would like to edit/correct the images so that they are all equal in line size and colour, to look harmoniously. Can you please advise me with editing solutions? You can message me on Facebook messenger too, we have spoken before. Thank you very much in advance! 🌻🌻💐
Hi Timea Love&Light 😄. I would first crop them, so they have the same amount of white around the subject. Then scale them to make the size equal for all images. (Image->scale). Then adjust the black and white, with 'colors->brightness and contrast', or with 'colors -> levels. You can also try 'colors->threshold'. Now changing the thickness of the lines, might be a bit more complicated, but I would try to select all the black with the 'select by color' tool and then grow the selection (select->grow). Then fill the selection with black. (Drag black fg color into the the image) I hope this helps a bit, but it depends very much on the caracteristics of each image. Best, Jan. GW. ✌️

Awesome video. Straight to the point, no self-promotion, no jargon, goes at a pace that a novice can follow. Thank you!

Yes, Jan made wonderful tutorials. He has joined the stars and we miss him very much
@@clochettebzh8371 I agree we don't need to watch 8 minutes of the video telling us how to download and install gimp
Excellent workshop well presented and clearly demonstrated. Thanks very much for posting.

I follow up to the filters distort and value propagate. Then I get the value propagate and change drag corner but don't get the preview that you get.

Hi Rodrix CG. Thanks for your comment!!
Great upload but it doesn`t work for version 2.10 anymore.
Can you do this tutorial for 2.10.6 Thank you so much!
