@GenevievesDesignStudio you should include how to know where to put shadows and how to shade folded clothes. i feel that's where many beginner artist struggles!
I love this video! I’ve followed many of your tutorials but I always forget some steps when trying my own sketches. This is great as a refresher. Would love something similar for shading!
I love this tutorial! It’s so nice to learn how our own sketches can be used in Procreate. IM going to watch this a couple of times and hopeful, not forget anything. Thank you so much! ❤
I forget about the secret tricks of tweaking colors ... love using the freehand selection tool, feathering and the adjusting hue/sat/brightness. Thanks for the reminder and other tips.
I loved this tutorial. I have done many many of your tutorials, but I needed this particular one solo. I tried to go on my own instead of always following your tutorials. So I sketched this and that and I was done because I could not figure out how to add color, clothing, etc. Thank you very much.
This was so helpful! I've been using procreate for a year now - doing lots of tutorials and such but focusing in on specific techniques like sketches etc is so helpful. And yes! I would love a shading video as well. It's an area that can make good into great! If you can include some tips about lighting as you demonstrate the need for shading that would be fantastic! THANK YOU!
Thank you for today's video. Interesting tip about ditching the white background. I would also love to see an video on shading. Would also be great if you were able to put together a video covering some of the features in the Adjustments Menu which are still a bit of a mystery to me, such as Colour Balance, Curves, and Gradient Map. I know you touched on some of this briefly today. However, more in depth info with more examples would be great. Also, totally clueless about everything in the bottom of the menu from Noise downwards, except for Liquify.
Hello! First of all, love your videos! 10:02 I do not know what is my fault. But always a tapping the grey circle, the circle got the color I have in this moment chosen. Do you have an idea what happened ? I really love your videos; I've learned so much from them. They’re so well-made, clear, and easy to understand. Honestly, I don’t even need any more brushes-I’ve so many already-but I bought yours anyway as a way to thank you for your work. Many thanks, very good job!
Thank you so much for this! I just finished Inktober, which I changed to Mousetober, lol, and have 31 sketches that I thought would be fun to bring to procreate but wasn't sure how to do so. Perfect timing. And yes, I'd love to see a shading tutorial. ❤️
Absitively! Adding video on shading would be great!! Really appreciated all of,today’s tips. Going to have to watch video multiple times. Yes, you did go super fast, good thing we can rewind. And I definitely prefer fast over going toooo ssssllllooooowwww. You do outstanding videos! CONTENT IS AWESOME! Did have 1 video PACING suggestion which might be helpful. My .02: When you move from 1 menu choice or 1 ACTION to another, maybe pause slightly. NAVIGATION is one of the hardest things about using ANY computer program. Some of these menu selections we and others have never used. Which means we can’t follow easily. For example, if someone has never used blending mode, verbalize where you are going (let’s go to blending mode by tapping N at the end of layer name). Then pause a half second or a second so person unfamiliar with that navigation can locate the N. Hope that makes sense. Maybe it will help others, or maybe not. Favorite tip was Cherry on the top… the last one on unifying the colors in the illustration. IE Create new top layer. Use 1 color from illustration over ENTIRE layer (pause lol). Then on that top layer, tap N at the end of that layer line (pause with pencil over the N for people who have never used the N). N stands for Normal blending mode, and tapping it opens the blending mode menu. Now choose a blending mode like Soft Light. (pause so people can see where it is). Then change the opacity using the slider here (pause) to unify the colors. Haven’t had time to drop in for quite awhile. However did take time this a.m. to enjoy the portrait brushes I bought from you a week or 2 ago. Very nice! Especially liked the hair and eyelash brushes!! They immediately improved the illustration I was working on! Many thanks for your videos and for taking the time to create so many nice brushes! 👍👀👍🖌️
I just found out about tip #5! haha! great help for the other tips, I had a different view and usage for the techniques. Yes please on the shading video! :D you are great @genevieve :)
Genevieve's Design Studio When I First got my ipad I was so excited to actually start drawing, it was a big step up from tracing. But it turned out I started not liking drawing on my ipad bc it was overwhelming for me. Now these days I prefer drawing on paper with a pencil and inking and coloring. It turns out I'm a much better artist when it comes to drawing on paper than a tablet.
That's so interesting! I'm glad you figured out what works best for YOU. Honestly, I think I'm the same. So funny I ended up with a digital art RUclips channel haha 😅
Hi, Zack… know exactly what you mean! The flow and spontaneity changes on an iPad. And there are so many Procreate menus to NAVIGATE through, it is definitely overwhelming. Truly… I almost gave up! That said, 90%+ of my artwork is now done on the iPad. It was a huge learning curve, and there is still plenty to learn. I so enjoy and appreciate being able to instantly “undo” 1 or 2 or 20+ of the last things I drew or shaded. I also really REALLY appreciate being able to “cut off” a leg, arm, eye, mouth, or whatever, and move it slightly over or up or down. OR resize it. In other words, once I understood the POWER of layers, I was hooked! I slowly began to discover that digital drawing with layers actually gave me more freedom. Example; this morning.I did not like the hand position of 1 of the women I was drawing. So I created a new layer on top of the original hand. It took me over an hour to get the new hand the way I wanted. But I was willing to TRY to alter it because it barely affected the original drawing. Then, of course, I decided to change the iris and pupils of the eyes AND give the woman a bigger smile. That took less than 10 minutes each and not because I’m a fast artist. But that’s the power of procreate and layers. I created 1 new layer for the eyeballs and mouth. (when I first started with Procreate, I drew the eyes and mouth on separate layers). By creating a new layer on top of the original, it took less than 15 minutes to do both of those 2 changes. And last but not least, Genevieve’s early videos were my most favorite ones when I started learning Procreate! She was the only 1 subscribed to! 👍👍👍👍👍
I know this has nothing to do with particular video, but you've shown how to draw certain fabrics before, can you do a video of how to draw fringe and create a fringe brush? I've been looking all over YT and nobody has a decent video on it.
