Whenever you are looking at a used ANYTHING which needs work. NEVER let on to the seller what you think the problem is, ESPECIALLY if it is an easy fix and NEVER whip out your leatherman or whatever & fix it on the spot. CASE IN POINT- 2 mechanics went to look at an old excavator a farmer had which had broken down & left park where it broke some years earlier. The Guys looked it over & concluded they knew exactly what it need. They jumped in their truck and went to town and picked up some parts and fluids & returned and set to work. In a couple of hours they had it running so they drove it about & tested all the systems and were satisfied this was a good deal. So they told the farmer they would take it & the farmer says “ Well, boys, OK, but it going to cost you twice what I first asked” The guys were pissed. The farmer said “ That price was for an ex that did not run” The guys protested that they made it run & they paid for the parts. The farmer said “Don’t care. The ex is now a running machine & I want twice” The guys were pissed but had put over $500 into it. So they paid his price grumbling all the way and drove away with their new prize but not so good a deal.

    • @AttorneyBCollins

Fair enough. His price was not running. They buy it at that price taking the risk. They get it running, it now is more valuable to any buyer. They still hadn't bought it. I can see both sides, but they got it running so they wouldn't risk their money on something with a thrown rod etc. They buy it then get it running, it is theirs.

I was thinking the same thing but if it’s in gear the starter won’t have enough power to not only move the machine but it definitely won’t have enough power to move those flat ass tires. If it does move it he will notice that the machine moves when the starter turns over at first and the machine don’t crank up

    • @rupe53
      @rupe53 2 года назад +1

@@parkermckowen3781 ... with an automatic or fluid drive trany you might not notice any movement while cranking, but if the engine fires up (RPM increase) you won't have time to react. At that point in the video, we didn't know there were any flat tires. That's what happened to my friend. BTW, in his case it was captured on a home security camera. He got as far as throwing up his hands and trying to lean back but the large tire already pinned his foot and was crawling up his leg. Basically, a human wheel chock. He's lucky the ground was soft, and no leg bones were broken. He's also lucky the engine stalled within a few seconds.

But of course, it's always good to be cautious and have a getaway plan in case things don't go as planned.

One thing that I can't stress to anyone doing this enough is to always and I mean, ALWAYS check the machine to make sure that its not in a forward or reverse gear as starting any machine that you have absolutely no idea who touched it last could have been left in gear and stalled in gear without ever being restarted and could potentially get you or someone else killed very easily...
Also, if you do end up doing something like this and you end up leaving the machine, please put the hydraulic equipment back down on the ground so some kids don't come by and get themselves seriously injured or killed by messing around with it. Thank you for thinking about that and doing that, not many people would think about that unless they either have their own kids or did something like that themselves as a kid.
Also, I would not be walking under that boom being up like that being that its sat around for 18 years and the hydraulic lines to that boom have had plenty of time to sit around and rot. It doesn't take lines that old to start a leak and then have that thing fall on you.
If you're going to buy it and it runs and works, get it up to operating standards and put it to use.

The fact that started up as easy as it did and moved as easy as it did after 18 damn years of sitting is mind boggling shows they dont make stuff like they used to

First off, jack those tires off the ground before attempting to inflate them.
It can be very dangerous to do it sitting like they are.
Before you even move it change all the filters, engine fluids and check to make sure everything is tight.
Fix it up possibly even some paint then flip it.
If you can find a bucket reasonably priced for it even better.
Right now any working construction equipment is selling top dollar at fire sale speeds.

95 are very common around here in the underground mines. They do make a 115z loader, they have a 19 liter Cummins in them. I worked on 2 of these loaders, had to pull an engine in one. Kawasaki loaders were very dependable loaders, we didn't work on them till they had a shit ton of hours on them.

I ran a 115 Z-IV and it had a QSK Cummins around 450 horse. It'd load 18 tons of crusher run all day long. Per bucket and it was an armor plated bucket for loading shot rock.

Reminds me of "dead row" at Edmonton Ritchie Brothers...watching two mechanics trying to out-bid each other for the non running machine and driving the price higher than a running unit going across the block an hour later. Special kind of people can do this and make it profitable.
