That's pretty tight Man! I think it is way better than any double din head unit I have seen and a lot easier than the iPad Mini I installed in my dash. Looks very cool and factory too. Fantastic concept with the "brain" being separate like that for easy access. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Man :-) As I can see you used my Buzz Theme for your Newsmy. :-D Didnt know that it was public, when i uploaded it (modified version of xda). But im happy that i could help you ;-) Tipp: You can adjust the navbar or even disable it in the settings!
Nice video. I am thinking about getting one but I noticed it does not have a CD / DVD but you can use a USB thumb drive for all your music so that should not be a problem. I noticed you did not demo the FM HD radio. I assume it has HD radio. I would like to know how reception works on the NU also I noticed there was an NR version that should have electronics internal... anyone know about that one. What about sat radio.. is there an ability for that .
I didn't demo the radio because I never use it. But when I first got it installed, I did try it out in my driveway. It seemed like it worked as expected. I'm not sure how Satellite Radio could work. Maybe transmit audio via Bluetooth?
+Brian Ratcliffe I have unlimited Data on my cell so it's a hotspot when I'm in the car. When I'm not in the car (when the wife is alone), we leave a dedicated T-mobile hotspot in the car with a 1 gig/month plan.
Normally I think these videos are terrible but this is great. Thanks for making it. I have been robbed every time I put a nice stereo in my cars (3x), so I was hoping to live vicariously through you while refraining myself... all the while assuming you got a ton of great use out of yours for years to come. I just read down the comments and saw yours got jacked too. People are awful and I'm sorry to hear that.
Make sure that the radio is in pairing mode as well as the keyboard. Remember, the radio has two BT radios... One for devices that can be accessed like a regular Android device and the other BT radio that is only for the cell phone.
No. The BT radio had nothing to do with the music radio. Open your settings, go to Bluetooth, hit scan. You need to put your keyboard in pairing mode as well.
hi Jason, what model is the usb camera you used for front facing? i bought a usb camera and the system couldnt detect it at all. please advice? is it just ans ordinary usb webcam? or is it a specific one for android 4.4? i can imagine not all usb cameras could interface with the android unit since they might be built for windows and apple operation systems
Did you have the change the speakers or do you still have stock? I wanna put a new head unit in mine, I’m just worried about the head until and speakers not being compatible.
+Ike Lolwut I gave up on the DVR concept...but that's purely due to the lack of quality DVR apps out there. The camera works with the default camera app as well as using a couple TimeLapse apps...but the DVR apps...no so much. They don't seem to be written well enough for stability.
+mauricien97430 I don't see the purpose of using this device. The NU3001 is a regular Android device. It supports phone and media Bluetooth profiles. You can stream directly to it from another Bluetooth device.

Hey I got the same unit as you did recently. Did you have any issues with backlighting on the physical controls? Mine arent backlit so Im wondering if I need to contact the manufacturer or the company who installed the unit.
Todd Horvath Funny. I just noticed that my buttons aren't illuminated either. They definitely were lit when I first recieved the unit. I believe that flashing a custom ROM disabled the front panel lights. Are you still running the same ROM that it came with?
Yeah. I haven't flashed a rom yet. I mean, there are on screen buttons so I guess that's a non issue. Also, regarding microphone compatibility. I kinda "copycatted" your setup and got the same microphone. It doesn't seem to recognize it. Are you using a microphone sub driver app or did it work out of the box? Sorry to bother you with all these questions.
The microphone worked out of the box. I actually got rid of the onscreen navbar. I find it annoying that it doesn't light up. But I really believe it's a software issues that can fixed. I saw somebody on xda mention a led app.
Todd Horvath try a different usb mic. Also, it turned out that since Webcam has a mic in it, that interfered with the standalone usb mic. I've unplugged the usb mic for now and let it just use the mic in the Webcam.
Hi Jason, I just installed the Carpad in my car. Would like to know which method did you use to update the ROM (for boot logo)? I tried the SD card update method and it didn't work. There was no update prompt? Am I doing it right?
Hey Jason so hows the CarPC after you have had more time to play with it? anything to look out for in your opinion? Specifically Features that might need a upgraded replacement, or just typical use that you wish was more fluid? Im going to be doing a carPC pretty soon and i dont know entirely what is out ther and what to lok for in these small form factors. Alright. Im waiting to hear back from a specific company ATM. This is something i was trying to get into back in 2008-2009 but the options were severely limited/lacking. So this is my 2nd attempt.
Hello, great reviews. I just ordered this head unit from China. You mentioned that your steering wheel controls were not working, did you get it fixed yet? Did you use a wiring interface (such as SWRTY-61S)? I have a 06 toyota sienna that i am trying to install this one on. How did you get the ODB2 informaiton? Is it from the bluetooth or hard wired?
Hey brah, I got a 2012 Soul. Can you still use the voice commands system on the steering wheel in conjunction with that system you got. (Volume, channel skip, mode, voice calls). That whole setup you running is so fresh. Gotta get one. Great videos.
+Steadman Dublin No. The previously installed voice commands were based in the factory stereo. I've been trying to get the steering wheel controls to work and FINALLY got the converter box coded right...but I should've set them before I flashed a custom ROM to the device. Unfortunately, I don't have steering wheel control now, but I'm 90% sure the would work with the operating system that came with the unit prior to my modding.
Luckily (for lack of a better term) the scum only took the android box. The installation was mostly untouched. I already ordered a new Android box from Newsmy so reinstallation of the dash unit won't be necessary. I'm going to stick with it for this car.
Hi, can you tell me the name of the UI launcher that you got from the XDA website? I can't seem to find the launcher which you mentioned in the vid. Also are there any more UI launchers for this device? Where can I get them? On Google Play? Or where else? Your helo would be greatly appreciated. Just bought this item and can't wait to receive it!
+stuart jack I got it for $20 from Amazon. I don't recommend it though. I paid 20 bucks for a no name brand...and got what I paid for. If I did again, I would use a microsoft or logitech unit.
+RecarroJames I'm using this webcam goo.gl/P9M7lt . I've been having problems with DashCam apps and continuous use of the camera. I want to try installing a powered usb hub (the current one is unpowered) to see if that rectifies the issue.
I'm not sure how I would power it. Some type of ac/dc converter, I guess. I'm not a car audio guy...I'm knowledgeable on the Android side. Data comes from two sources. My (unlimited data plan) cell phone is automated to turn on the hotspot when plugged in and connected via bluetooth. For when I'm not present, like when my wife has the car, I copped a used hotspot, dedicated for the car, with a 1gb/month data plan from T-mobile. Music streaming services don't count toward the monthly data usage so we don't come anywhere close to the data cap.
+Jason Harrison ok kool... let me know how it works out for you when you do. I'm finalizing a review video for the Joying stereo I just bought. I'll be sure to make mention of your set up and point viewers to your video of that ok with you. The setup with the webcam is dope tho, I like it. I think I'm gonna get one and try it out.
Hello Jason! What kind of fascia model have you used for the installation? I heard the fascia internal window is a few millimeters smaller than required to fit a Chinese stereo, how did you solve it?
Thanks for the great review! Appearently a lot of people have problems with audio being directed to the microphone's sound card instead of the HUs amps - are you not experiencing this problem? especially when you still had two microphones connected?
No, I haven't had a problem like that. My only mic issue was having the usb mic interfere with the built-in mic on the Webcam. Temporarily solved by unplugging the usb mic. I just have to friggin yell when I use Ok Google or voice text dictate.
Got this thing too and have it installed, working good. I want to upgrade the ROM but I'm totally lost. Tried the wiki, but nothing makes sense. Did you find a good tutorial? I can't get it to do anything!
+Jason Harrison That wiki loses me. Did you need to have a laptop to install the new rom, or were you able to do it with the breakout box from a desktop? That's where it's unclear in the wiki. Thanks for any info, yours looks bitchen.
+Justin Dewitt honestly, I can't remember if I used ODIN to flash the new ROM... I think I saved the new ROM to the sd card and flashed it from the sd card. I will say that having a mini (not micro) hdmi cable to a tv/monitor and a bluetooth keyboard will help you immensely in setting it up.
Great review! Thanks for all the details and tips. How's the stability been? The Pumpkin I tried locks up several times a day if I use the Nav on it. :(
The stability has been great. The only regular malfunction was the dashcam app. I attribute that to the Webcam being underpowered from the usb hub, though
I'm most happy with the physical layout of it. No buttons really make it sleek and seem high end. I edited the build.prop and got rid of the navbar at the bottom so I have the entire display available to me now. I haven't been able to get the steering wheel control connected to my car due to the crappy documentation it came with. I'm still waiting for a response from the contact person in China about it. Other wise, I'm pretty happy with it. Streaming music, 128gb sd card with ALL the music I own, dash cam app running in the background.... 😊
Many thanks to Bruno Sousa for making this Buzz Launcher theme. Here is the current look after getting rid of the Navbar. The two faces in the lower left are Quick Dial shortcuts for my wife and I to call each other. goo.gl/photos/oXZA3ELgNvdLxQHY6
+SmaRTrxxv I wouldn't say it's anymore a hard drive than the guts of a cell phone or tablet is a hard drive. The dash unit is just the display (and amp) for the Android device in the glove box. It's why the "brain" can be taken out and played on any display with HDMI in.
hi Jason, what model is the usb camera you used for front facing? i bought a usb camera and the system couldnt detect it at all. please advice? is it just ans ordinary usb webcam? or is it a specific one for android 4.4? i can imagine not all usb cameras could interface with the android unit since they might be built for windows and apple operation systems
Actually, that's a thing that's given me the most issue. I can't get it to continously record with out it losing connection to the cam. It takes photos when I want, but even then if the camera app is in the foreground too long, say 1-2 mins, it will fail.
That's pretty tight Man! I think it is way better than any double din head unit I have seen and a lot easier than the iPad Mini I installed in my dash. Looks very cool and factory too. Fantastic concept with the "brain" being separate like that for easy access. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks man!
Thanks for the idea Jason, I did the same for my Soul ! ;-)
Would this work on my kia soul 2010
Hey Man :-) As I can see you used my Buzz Theme for your Newsmy. :-D Didnt know that it was public, when i uploaded it (modified version of xda). But im happy that i could help you ;-)

hello I have a 2010 kia soul and I would like to ask how did you connect the stereo under the key
finally got it... but it won't let me log into my Google play...did u have this problem?
Is that KIA soul Plus 201:
can you hook up all for speackers and sub to amp to this. how is sound quality?

What do you mean by usb microphone can you give me link where u can buy it from please :)

Good evening. I was wondering how the android head unit is working after almost 2 years. Any problems? Speakers connection failures. Wifi?
Jogan Tjokrodikromo everything is functioning the same.
How do you have wifi and how many amplifier out puts is there?
+Brian Ratcliffe I have unlimited Data on my cell so it's a hotspot when I'm in the car. When I'm not in the car (when the wife is alone), we leave a dedicated T-mobile hotspot in the car with a 1 gig/month plan.

Thanks for concern dude.
I did get the brain replaced but opted to skip the Webcam this time.
+Jason Harrison what kind of replacement Android box did you use?
I ordered the exact same one from the company. They aren't interchangeable.
What did that cost you
What is the Android version? Is the Play Market available on the device?
It's 4.4
Play market is present. Apps stay updated...
Do you have to ability to fade and balance ?
Scott Woomer It comes with ViperFx for equalizer settings. That Eq app has so much customization available, I felt like I got new speakers.
Great review, thank you!
How did you manage to connect your keyboard to your radio? Mine dont want to connect

+Jason Harrison yes thats the problem i am having my pumpkin radio dont have a scan button
Do you think anybody can install it?
hey where you got the front view camara

And could you share the link to your USB microphone?
I tried mine and it didn't work on the Carpad.
Thanks in advance.
Hey, Jason Harrison, how did you get that mic to work? I have the same one and no matter what i do it will not work. :-(

This model has all of the features you listed here.
There's no reason to try and go crazy for the mic. It's only for voice input for Google Now and such.
And it's not really a car pc. Think of it as an integrated Android tablet.
Alright. Im waiting to hear back from a specific company ATM. This is something i was trying to get into back in 2008-2009 but the options were severely limited/lacking. So this is my 2nd attempt.

+Jason Harrison Cool stuff...I think your setup is soooo dope. I may try a few stuff here and see. Thnks for sharing man.
I'm discovering new stuff thru your posts too. Keep up the good work.
Thanks.... I will.
Annnnd...I was robbed on Christmas morning. The scum thieves took the android box, the camera, the hotspot and the Bluetooth keyboard.
:-(
+Jason Harrison Sucks! Sorry man!
+Jason Harrison Savage! I'm guessing someone saw your set-up video lol
+ZioComposite nah. Probably noticed the Webcam.
I moved 400 miles away after shooting this.
+Jason Harrison Damn, where did you move to?
+ZioComposite so you can come and get the new setup?
Nah fam. 😁
Jesus 40 mins to travel 7 miles lol
??? That so called brain.. isn't just a harddrive.. ? Newsmy Carpad NU3001 is large 2DIN head-unit...
+SmaRTrxxv I wouldn't say it's anymore a hard drive than the guts of a cell phone or tablet is a hard drive. The dash unit is just the display (and amp) for the Android device in the glove box. It's why the "brain" can be taken out and played on any display with HDMI in.

Very bad integration, indeed.
Now that I have the replacement brain from China, I chose a simpler setup.

+Jason Harrison Nice interface ;). What launcher is that? Thanks!
+Radu Radonys it's Buzz Launcher. Link is in description.
what you mean you replace the brain. what is the difference with the new brain?
The original one was stolen
hi Jason, what model is the usb camera you used for front facing? i bought a usb camera and the system couldnt detect it at all. please advice? is it just ans ordinary usb webcam? or is it a specific one for android 4.4? i can imagine not all usb cameras could interface with the android unit since they might be built for windows and apple operation systems
Where can I buy that?
You don't want to now. It's outdated and still running Android 4.4
There's a new one by Pioneer coming out soon with wireless Android Auto.
thus is awesome! how much of a load does the dashcam cause? recording 1080 whilst doing navigation and playing music at the same time smooth?
Actually, that's a thing that's given me the most issue. I can't get it to continously record with out it losing connection to the cam. It takes photos when I want, but even then if the camera app is in the foreground too long, say 1-2 mins, it will fail.
+Jason Harrison dangit. I really want the dashcam working flawlessly in the background unnoticed while doing other stuff in the foreground.
I wonder If i installed a powered usb hub, would that've helped...
+Jason Harrison can't hurt! Webcams draw a lot of power and a powered hub is inexpensive to try out.
I don't know how give it appropriate power...
