This is un underrated podcast. As someone who is not a gambler, it was actually very insightful and entertaining. The "veteran" (sorry I missed his name) is well-spoken and aware.
I used to do the same thing! Single, bored, going to kill some time! I would leave so broken, so finally I told my son what was going on, and we did a self exemption for life! Best thing I ever did for myself! Now I drive by the casinos and don’t even think twice about it! It’s really easy to do a self exemption, and I recommended to anybody who struggles, and can’t stop, but tells themselves that they can! I’ve been free from gambling for over two years now!
I’m addicted to online gambling. The casino online treat me like trash. I spend so much money online gambling like 15 thousand they only gave 60 cent free-play. They actually wanted me to wager 20 thousand dollars to only get 250 dollars in return. They are trying their best to advantage of me.They are truly disgusting. I don’t know why I keep playing. Every-time I get a good paying bonus they boot me out of the game. Gambling everywhere is toxic. I know I have to make very hard decisions to stop. It’s making my mental illness worst. I turn to food for comfort after big a loss. A guy in my town killed himself because he gambled it all. I seriously believe gambling should be illegal. It’s 100% rigged. It destroys lives. The people who run the government don’t care about us.
When I start telling people online about the casino how they give me cheap free play they actually told I should be lucky to get anything. I serious believe they secret work for the casino to gaslight us. They want us to question ourselves trying to make us feel ungrateful. They are evil.
I gambling very often on my phone, but not in the USA, I've experienced the same thing as you do, sometimes when I'm about to hit big like in sugar rush bonus, they phone call me and try to interrupt my game, but i didn't answer the call, but it doesn't matter, the next day or a few days later the weird thing will come by like my account being cursed, no matter what I do, my win probability is very low.
I'd take $250 for $20k wagered that's 1.25% minus 0.50% blackjack edge is $150 profit but you have to play basic strategy and small amounts like 800 hands of $25 with no playing mistakes
The hope is that through shared experience we can find strength, but always remember this is just the starting point! Nothing will ever beat getting out there and sharing yourself
I am so grateful to have voices like both of yours. I could feel myself developing a problem and I made the decision to quit gambling four days ago: I'm now excluded from all casinos. I'm fortunate that I didn't get into any financial or relationship trouble, but it was giving me so much stress and I realised that I was using it to cope with other things in my life. Love this channel 💗
They gave me $150 free slot play. Ideally, video poker or blackjack guarantees you'll get at least $100, probably $115-$125+. There were none. Dragonlink $35 out of $150. Buffalo $45 out of $150. Moon Maidens $40 out of $100. I was blown away at how terrible..........!!! Slots is robbery. And theres no decision making involved. Press button. Press button. Press button.
My first few experiences in slots using free play is how i found out how absolutely BRUTAL those machines are. No way do i put my money in there........
I just subscribed and on day three of no gambling as it has literally broken me over the last five years. This is worse than cigarettes and alchohol and I'm lost but feel like I'm on the right path. Hopefully....... Are there any groups available? I think that might help but I will say your channel is helping so much as each and every person I can relate with. Ty for your channel sir.
I've gambled online for 13 years and it's had a hold of me alot. Yesterday Dec 2nd I am committed to never bet again. I've likely lost 50 thousand over the years. maybe alot more. I don't want to know. I've subscribed and plan to tune in to your videos daily to reinforce my decision.
Whatever you thought you lost, you definitely lost a ton more than that in money and a ton more than that in time and other things. Not wanting to know will never change that so I hope that you really do reinforce that decision. Good luck and all my best wishes.
Great interview, Rob! This is one I can really relate with. I wonder how much of the blame Dave would place on the slot machines themselves and how they're carefully designed to be as addictive as possible. Just the insane pace that dopamine is released with those kinds of games leads to really effective escapism in the moment. It's addicting like anything else I've ever experienced, and I've had experience with drugs like cocaine, MDMA, cigarettes ETC, nothing compared to the addictiveness of the slot machine. I don't think gambling should be illegal, but something like a slot machine that is programmed to be as manipulative and self destructive as possible really has no place in society IMO. Or if they are legal, it should really be against the law to use the manipulative tactics of the endless near misses and the endless bonus teases. Keep up the good work to the both of you guys!
A coworker I worked with for over 35 yrs. "Retired" early at 53 with his girlfriend ( Now Wife ) she quit her job at 52, He had about 450,000 Profit Sharing and they both thought they they were "Rich" Well, Fast forward 4 yrs. they gambled it all away and now live in a shitty trailer park in Delaware, also their health is not the best and they both back in factory type jobs.
Couple of theories as to why (Accoording to the statistics quoted) gambling addicts arw approx twice as prevalent in military..compared to wider community. (1) the stress caused in a military role . (2( egos of the people who typically go down the military route. Competitve ego driven is the generalisation; thus have a harder time admitting they cant wiin and walking away
I stopped for a while. Wow, I'm just going to type this. This makes me realize darn, I have a problem. A friend lent me $1000 to pay my rent. I said ok i need to stop because now i owe her money. I went a few times for free play then realized i need to stop completly. One day i went. I still owed my friend maybe $300. I went and lost $200. I thought i was going to have a heart attack. Truly. I stopped for maybe 6 months. I had paid off my friend. THANK YOU JESUS. However, maybe June i went back. Not good. I won a large handpay and there it is, makes me think oh i can do it again.
I'm going to give you some real advice on how to stop gambling. Don't listen to these guys or seek professional help! It doesn't work! Here is how you stop. Keep gambling! Keep feeding your addiction! Right now it is the only thing that gives you peace. Don't stop! Just give in and accept whatever your fate will be. Yes, it sounds crazy like it won't work, but it will. One day you will just stop gambling. Gambling is what brings you peace and you have to feed that. Then you will suddenly just stop gambling. The lack of peace and satisfaction is what is actually causing you to gamble. Since gambling is the only place you find peace and satisfaction, then that's what you have to do until you stop! Trust me it will work. I tried everything, and that's what works.

Dave is an amazing storyteller
Great podcast. I like hearing these stories on what happened. I look forward to the next one
Monday’s and Thursdays for the next 3 months. If people like that frequency we’ll keep going🙏🏻

All such stories are agonizing. Keep up the good work.
I’m finding myself going down a dark road with gambling. I need to cut my losses and stop.
i came to here some bad beats
You’re in the right place my friend
Dont talk to me my favorite podcast just dropped a new episode!!!!

When I go to a casino lately, I kind of go crazy, lose my emotional control to a degree, and blow too much money.
Couple of theories as to why

(1) the stress caused in a military role .

Spot-on! And then some. Warrior Ethos…I will not accept defeat. Mission-first mentality.
This sure helps to show how incredibly bad it can get. To drive 6 hours! Twice!
Spreading the awareness is key!
How can I share my story? I’d love to share the issues I’ve had through you
This is a good man
Dave is the best

That cycle just repeats itself for those of us who struggle. Seek help before it gets destructive.
My wife is an addict and she doesn’t do well with stress either
I have won $36k in jackpots and blown it all away in 5 hours at a different casino.. gambling addiction is evil
A gamblers blackout is called a brownout
was it $500 or $5000? and i find it hard to believe you could keep winning for 36 hours before losing it all.
❤
Hi
Hey
Make a budget, mine is 5k a year, small percentage of my income.
If you watched this and genuinely believe thats a viable solution for a gambling addict I simply cannot comprehend that thought
@ Clearly not for gambling addicts, for casual gamblers. Also, online casinos are rigged.
