I've followed the Sailing Doodles videos for quite some time. I'm also a former Army fixed wing pilot, during which time I obtained an Airman's Certificate for Airplane, Single and Multiengine Land, Instrument rating. The Sailing Doodles skipper (Bobby) recently welcomed aboard a new crew member to his sailing vessel, a lovely lady named Dakota. Both she and Bobby are both certificated pilots with more advanced ratings than I have. Bobby has said he wanted Dakota to take the lead in promoting Flying Doodles to promote his RUclips videos in various aspects of flying. As a 78 year old no-longer-flying pilot, I watch many flying videos on RUclips for my personal interests. Lo and behold I see the lovely Dakota in this video. I was pleasantly surprised to recognize her! Dakota is a multifaceted woman, obviously smart as hell and able to speak "aviation" like a pro! Good to see you, Dakota! Flying with a pilot that has flown a C-182 around the world made for a terrific interview! Keep up the good work!
Nice one Dakota. It's amazing how a little Cessna 182 R, 1981 vintage flew around the world. Dakota keep these flying Doodles videos coming and the sailing with Bobby. Looking forward to seeing more
Bobby.....I liked this channel before....but Dakota is a significant upgrade! She is in her element in an airplane. Knowledgeable, confident and easy on the eyes and ears. I hope you make sure she stays current and can progress towards a flying career in addition to being a regular on all your channels!
bobby gets his wings clipped cuz of ''health crap'' ..... bobby goes out and finds a HOTTIE CFI to fly around ''with'' snikker ;) HEHEHEHEEH seems like somthing *I* would do...!!! I would also prolly have one of those KITFOXES or somthing and do it LOW & SLO without the MED CRAP of the GA ;) And go out BUSH FLYING but... yea...
I still think out of all the aircraft I’ve flown the 182Q I have 60hrs in was my favourite, they’re such a reliable and comfortable aircraft. Also I love how he said, “not perfect but I’ll take it” after his landing when the front tyre couldn’t have touched down any closer to the centre of the centreline haha. Great video guys !!
Nicely done, Dakota. Ross has a very interesting story with amazing planning abilities. Look forward to more of these and crossing paths again soon. 💯📸🛩️
Man I completely feel you pain. I flew BUENOS Aires To Atlanta USA during COVID Trying to find 100 LL was by far the hardest part. Plus paying the never ending fees.
I knew two couples who were 4 doctors. They planned a trip to Europe. They shipped the clothes to use to Europe a month before. They had extra tanks added to the plane. They were able to fly all over Europe for a month. They shipped everything back afterwards and reversed the flight over. I was able to hear about it on my visit with them.
Interesting experiment to see the operating sytems of each opposite personality so close in that tiny cabin. Mister IA twice checker and miss Lushy in the sky with a diamond smile.
Dakota, you were fantastic with the Ross interview about his round the world flight adventure...love to see you on Sailing Doodles...keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for the video ! So informative ! At 14:50 you speak of "that what gets people" regarding the weather. Did you know that 80% of general aviation fatal crashes are in vfr conditions ? That's from Dan Gryder's Sunday, 11-12-23 video and earlier ones too. I look forward to more watching your videos. Thanks again so much.
Wow, that is an amazing story and a well shot/edited episode. I love to see the growth and confidence of Dakota in this episode. More of these features would be amazing!
Very interesting vlog. Some very good questions from Dakots. I bet he got some looks in some of the FOB's he landed at. He's a very intellectual guy. That would be a haul flying 17 hrs on one leg in a 182. How did he talk to contollers from other countries? Other countries have bilingual controllers? I would think that would be a challenge. I'm an A&P and want to get my pilots license, and found this vlog so awesome! Thanks Dakota
Interesting plane, pilot and story Dakota, nice start. I think the video would be improved if you had introduced the pilot and done the first part more as an interview than a monologue. Once you all were in the air you did a great job with your questions and overall conversational style. Nice start to your ‘solo’ flying. 🛫
Super informative video. Comments from Ross and Dakota were spot on. When I think back to my first cross country about a hundred years ago, lol, and how nervous I was, to hear about probably a 20, 000 + mile trip makes my little endeavor seem like nothing. We all had to start somewhere tho, right?
Great seeing you out and about in your element Dakota. I hope you might come for a visit with us in Australia? There’s so much to explore here and I’m sure you’d love the country, the experiences and the people You’re doing a great job on FD. I hope to see a lot more of you soon. 🛩️👍🇦🇺
I did the Pponk upgrade on a 1976 182p. Funniest Idiocracy was demonstrating a power on stall. The plane just wants to ride the prop. Had a heck of a time getting it to even buffer. Found that if I held yoke back about 75% and then yanked the last 25% it would finally buffer and stall so I could pass my biannual. I miss that plane!
Flying around the world in a small airplane loaded with extra fuel tanks reminds me of Charles Lindbergh's famous transatlantic flight. Ross has to be in a record book of some kind.
In the 70s , it was common to fly a new light plane to Australia from the US factory. That was the cheapest method , rather than taking the wings off and into a container. Au new plane customer are used to seeing their new bird already broken in for them with 100+ hours on the Hobbs meter. The longest leg were from LAX to Hawaii, (about 2100 KT miles) and can take over 14 hours in a 172 or Mooney, they tend to travel in groups of 3, 4 planes for safety. Seats were removed ( sent by Qantas) and replaced with a big gas tank, Turtle Pack Au still make rubber fuel bladders. When the plane land in AU, the pilots were handed a return Qantas ticket to get back to the US. This is not done now because av gas is not even available in many places at any price, and like Ross, they will have to preposition fuel, which is a pain. My guess is you need at least 2500 kt miles of fuel for you are flying against the prevailing winds. At least icing is not a problem. With GPS, navigation is now a joke. Rather than guessing, like some other aviator in the past, I now know Howland Island position down to within 10 ft. But if I have to do the crossing, I prefer to use something that burn Jet A, which is universally available, and some of those single engine birds like the Epic do not need to carry as much extra fuel.
You should do an episode with Stevie Triesenberg. Would be an interesting story given her love of unique, classic planes. Two female pilots would be a cool concept.
Great video beautifully done Dakota you are so professional your love of flying shows, but we hope to see you on Sailing Doodles and Glamping Doodles very soon, Bobby kneads someone like you to add that Feminine touch.........(and to kick his ass from time to time) ??? 😍😎😎🤤
What an amazing guy. He's flown around the world and yet stayed humble
06:42 bruuh couldn't resist to check them out! smooth one
😂
smooth would have been if she wasn't looking
He started his flight in Zelienople PA, that's were I started flying as a teenager and soloed! What a coincidence!
I live in that area. Still just a little North up in Mercer County.
Great episode! What an amazing accomplishment for him! Great interview Dakota...

@@jackburns804 Amazing the most over used word in the 21st century. I supposed to non pilots she’s impressive. 🥱
Dakota, good thoughtful interview from a pilot's perspective!!!

Dakota has a personality in planes! I enjoy her commentary and knowledge…and personality! Nice upgrade to the channel.
I knew two couples who were 4 doctors. They planned a trip to Europe. They shipped the clothes to use to Europe a month before. They had extra tanks added to the plane. Dakota this was a well done video. Thank you.
👍✅👏Well done Dakota! We don't need Bobby anymore LOL
Interesting experiment to see the operating sytems of each opposite personality so close in that tiny cabin.
Mister IA twice checker and miss Lushy in the sky with a diamond smile.
Dakota! Nice to see you here but I miss you on the boat. A lot of people miss you on the boat.
Wow, would not have picked him as a Kiwi. Grew up in UK I suspect, speaking The Queen’s English. Great video Dakota.
You have a good ear.
Married to a kiwi, I know kiwi.....just had a house full of 'em..... eh......😀
You took off and landed ON THE CENTERLINE. Well done.
You fit right in ... comfortable conversation - interesting interview.

ATC is in English worldwide; with the exception of smaller local fields in New Caledonia and France where it was in French!

Fantastic!
Love to see a vid. on a Meyers Aero Commander, awesome planes to this day. Esp. the "200".
Young lady, you are a natural at this RUclips thing Bobby made a great choice.
That is an amazing accomplishment in a 182! He must have alot of courage to attempt an around-the-world voyage through the air. Great video Dakota!
Very interesting, 💕love it❤️💕

Thank you Dakota ❤
For those long 17hour flights, how do crew rest/max hour requirements play into that? Is there a waiver for these types of flights?
how much did the trip cost?
You should do an episode with Stevie Triesenberg. Would be an interesting story given her love of unique, classic planes. Two female pilots would be a cool concept.
I wish there was a walk around with the wing tip add ons... that was the only thing missing here. Amazing mods.
