I love Evander Holyfield. He was a great ring warrior and a gentleman outside the ring. He went many hard battles against men people believed would crish him.
However of a few of his fights, there are 2 that sticks out badly for me. The first is the DOuglas fight and the 2nd is his 3rd Bowe fight.
The Douglas fight was for Holyfield great. He was fit and ready for anything. Douglas however came up as a shell of himself just a few months prior. Heavily over-weight, badly trained and out of focus. He just did not care. I understand that his life was crumbling due to the loss of his sweet mother and the grief. I understand that his past battles with his father had taken its toll on his heart & soul. But how little he carred for BE the champion was just baffling. I mean we never got to see what a trained and motivated Douglas could have done. When he was all there just like Tyson, McCall, Williams, Page etc. he was a GREAT boxer with a snapping jab, nice combinations and speed to the punches.
The 3rd Bowe fight was more that Holyfield was sick in hepatitus and with that his energy levels went up and down constantly and he more lost to himself.
If he had not been sickj, he would have kind of easily defeated Bowe as he was easy to land punches at at the time and was knocked-down by lighter Holyfield!

When I was younger I got in a fight with another kid who had a black belt in karate. There was no point in my life I could match him blow for blow. But I still managed to knock him down with a really weak punch. He decided to take the hit so he was in a better position to counter but my "punch" landed just right and his legs turned to noodles.
Holyfield could dish it out for sure,.......and he could take a shot as well,.....I got nothing but respect for the man.
