I have a question for you - do you prefer (a) to have sidebars on your Blog Posts or (b) no sidebars and have the post content full width?
I will choose (a) because when there is a sidebar, we have much more flexibility to showcase more information, like a table of contents or a summary of the post (lead magnets, of course). On top of that, full-width for long-form content is bad for user experience. Human eyes digest small paragraphs (small in width as well).
However, sometimes I like to keep the post clean and minimal. In that case, you can define a max-width of 72/82/92 rem and center-align the content. It will look great and be easy to read through.
nice! yeah I prefer the look of no sidebar but to add (like you said) lead magnets etc I have the sidebar.
Have you tried the "ch" unit for the full-width option? Clever that they added that, I'm wanting to play around with that one more
My current site is a bad example but I prefer to have a sidebar.
In the past I had a floating table of content, share buttons, and subscribe form. I saw a higher conversion then rather than now...Plus content looks easier on the eyes when it's 45ch wide.
FYI - for better user experience, you should have a custom field like a radio button in the wp-admin side and have the condition controlled by that!
That was super usefull and practical video. Loved it!!!
Thanks Farhan! Hope you're not working too hard on the weekend :P
Personally, I would do template nested in another template for this. As in the sidebar would be a template itself. Gives alot more options AND futureproofing.
say you add a sidebar template into a Single Post template, and then you set conditions for the sidebar template to not output, in the single template it leaves an empty div where they template would have been inside. So the content then wont stretch 100% across the page. Or do you have a way to do that?
Is it possible to get the same autofit result but with css grid?
I've been meaning to come back and give this one a go and let you know, I think it's possible somehow surely
Yes, It is not only possible but better practice :) From my understanding grid is best for structure, flex for alignment.
Im in half in the video. Please don't show next time in your video HOW NOT TO DO SOMETHING, just get on the right one. You could do a 1 hour long video on how NOT TO DO things. Thank you... Btw good video and valueable information.
