To select parent in Bricks: Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + ←.
It is possible to create custom pseudo-selectors in Bricks as well. Ex.: :hover i, :hover #brxe-uiqhml
Bricks provides API to add controls to elements. So it is possible to add frequently used controls like font size, color in the CONTENT tab of elements like Heading and Basic/Rich Text for quick access.
The benefit of needing to add root for custom CSS in Bricks is that we are not constrained to the current element. It gives us more freedom to write complex custom selectors that include the current element.
Taxonomy query in Bricks' query loop is not for querying terms. It is for querying posts and filter by terms. That feature is available in Oxygen's advanced query builder as well. But yes, it is possible to query not only posts but other types of content liker users, taxonomies and any other data source in Bricks even data coming from external sources via API - but not using the method that's mentioned in this screencast.
Oxy Toolbox has a Navigator module that provides 1-click access to directly switch to any Page/Template for editing with Oxygen via WP toolbar inside the editor.

Thanks for the updates, custom hover states don’t work with classes if I remember correctly, which is a major draw back for class based stylings.
Oxy Toolbox is an excellent addon for Oxygen builder! However I tried to limit the feature to what’s available natively.

Weird it's all .. suddenly people start supporting Bricks. Soon it could all end the same as with Oxygen (same business model). Fear of getting serious with these niche builders at all.

Thank you, great video and well worth the watch. I'm an Oxygen advocate but after the BD release and resutling fiasco, I'm taking a hard look at Bricks which I've had for a while now but not done anything with up to this point. I will likely switch to Bricks when ACSS for Bricks drops, which should be shortly.

Very well done comparison. I might suggest that for Bricks that you start by going into theme settings and go through and set all of the text sizes, styles, font etc before starting to build headers, pages etc.

Thanks for this review. 😊 Perhaps, after Brick 1.5 is released you could built an actual webpage with both builders -- so that one can quantitatively see the differences in the work flow process. I would recommend building a webpage composed of a set of typical design elements, e.g., hero image with color gradient and overlay text & parallax effect, sticky horizontal menu for desktop & off-canvas mobile menu, service section, touch enabled testimonial carousel, about section with overlapping text and/or image blocks, on-scroll animations, footer section, use of the design libraries, etc.

The only problem I have with Bricks is the buggy editor right now. Don’t know if you experience the same but. Copy-Paste does not happen sometimes, adding elements sometimes do not appear or appear at the bottom of the DOM… and more… I often reload the editor to fix these temporary issues. Otherwise I think it’s the best builder. It still needs some time for refinement…

Pretty much agree with this video.
The big question for me is...
We compare a builder who is 4/5 years old with another who is 1/2 years old.
One had a large and very active community to develop its product. (is it at its maximum?)
The other takes off and sees its base increased recently.
What will the situation be in 1 or 2 years taking these facts into account?

I'm a pretty heavy oxygen user, and starting to make the switch after their new release.
Since Bricks is theme based, you can easy do all the same stuff on the code side outside of the editor in the child theme, if you need custom code.
Benefits for me are, since it is a theme I think I'll spend way less time writing custom oxygen plugins to integrate with 3rd party plugins like Ultimate Member, or events calendar, since they rely on the theme template to create custom overrides.
Not fully committed yet, but their development team seems to be really listening to the community, which I really like.

@@milessebesta Just out of curiosity, you tried to do something serious in Gutenberg? After this story with "Oxygen" I am honestly a little afraid of switching to these niche builders. You do a big project and the guy abandons the builder. Bricks share the same business model as Oxygen. Oxygen creator said he supported Oxygen with money from another plugin (look atinterview with Permaslug). In other words, it becomes unprofitable over time.

The fact that Oxygen and Bricks are being compared frequently suggests they are in the same weight class.
No matter how similar they become, they’ll both have strengths and weaknesses. These tools should be selected as they best fit the projects at hand.

Not a very useful comment if you can't state specifically what I left out. In Oxygen you definitely cannot create conditions to apply different global styles to different pages/templates natively. You can look that up and let me know if I'm wrong.
