  • In tonight's edition: The military leader behind Guinea's coup has said that he will release political detainees imprisoned by ousted president Alpha Condé. Our correspondent went to speak to some of those released as they walked out of jail. In Ethiopia, Tigrayan forces claim that dozens of people have starved to death in northern Ethiopia last month because of a food blockade by federal authorities. Finally, mosques in Kong in Ivory Coast join UNESCO's World Heritage list.

Only the military can reinstate discipline on those dead woods who calls themselves politicians in the whole of Africa.

Discipline? Most military officials are corrupt and dream of unlimited power and access to a nation's wealth without any critical media or opposition.

Wait my question is why did the prior president decide to do a third term when the constitution says only two? I mean you shouldn't break the ground rules and expect the rest to keep following the rules themselves.

    • @isoomena3511

The international community and the so-called Ecowas Union all stood by and supported him, making it look like anybody can alter the constitution in his own bedroom.
Who are they to challenge the Geniean military for this take over?

Well just like Leonardo Di Capriccio said in the movie blood diamond, 'TIA', or this is Africa.
Although seriously it happens everywhere. There are always power hungry ppl who want to test the limit of their systems and ppl to hang onto power. And in a place like Guinea where there haven't been strong democratic institutions those ppl feel that there's really no cost 4 them to do that...

The majority of them are actually 'good' in recent years in that the military sided AGAINST current (civilian or military) dictators and deposed them. It's more common nowadays actually. Just that the ones that aren't caught more attention. Like the one in Myanmar for example. And even the ones that do lead to an improve in democracy wasn't without its own problems or controversies. Like the one in Sudan, that did directly bring down the long time dictator Omar Bashier and transitioned into a more democratic system as of now. But there was still clashes between the junta and the protestors.
