  • In honor of Marvel's Avengers Endgame, the plan was simple: go back and investigate why 2012's The Avengers is superior to Avengers Age of Ultron. The only problem is that it turned out that Ultron is a much stronger movie compared to the original, despite the Internet's general opinion. In today's episode of Film Perfection, let's dive into previous era of the MCU and see what are the key differences between Ultron and the original Avengers.

Very excited to see Endgame. We'll see what happens with Thanos and which Avenger dies in Endgame. Iron Man and Captain America might not both make it, maybe not Thor either. Probably some are coming back with some time stone action or something related to Ant-man. We'll see what the Avengers Endgame ending is. Not sure if there will be a new villain like Galactus or something.

    Marvel's The Avengers
Marvel Studios delivers the ultimate comic-book film, which ties together such characters as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) for a big-screen franchise team-up like no other. Taking center stage this time is Nick Fury (played once again by the note-perfect Samuel L. Jackson), leader of the peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Fury, along with former Russian spy Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), recruits a super team to combat Thor's ever-deceptive brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) after he brainwashes ace archer Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) while stealing a cosmic cube from an underground base. Thus the heroes must learn to work together alongside outlaw scientist Bruce Banner (Ruffalo), who can track down the artifact's gamma signals when he's not hulking out into a giant green monster. Show runner Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly) adapted and helmed the script by Zak Penn.

    Avengers: Age of Ultron
This sequel to the smash-hit comic-book epic The Avengers finds the iconic superhero team dealing with a threat of their own making: a sentient robot called Ultron (voice of James Spader), who was originally designed as part of a peacekeeping program. Since the events of the last film, Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) have been working to take down various cells of a secret society of villains known as HYDRA. Their zeal to make the world a better, safer place inspires Tony Stark, genius billionaire and alter ego of Iron Man, to create Ultron in order to respond to additional threats that the Avengers aren't able to handle. Ultron, unfortunately, takes this directive way too seriously -- he believes that world peace can only be achieved by exterminating humanity, and he'll stop at nothing to accomplish this goal. The battle between the Avengers and Ultron is further complicated by the appearance of superpowered siblings Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), who ally themselves with the homicidal android. Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders co-star as, respectively, S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives Nick Fury and Maria Hill. Joss Whedon, writer and director of the previous Avengers movie, returns in both capacities here.

Good summary of how a normal "dude", like Hawkeye very much is, would feel during such a monumental, sci-fi level event. Because I'm no good with arrows, or guns, I'd be hiding in a cellar, sucking my thumb, just waiting to die. Age of Ultron really helped establish how good of a character Clint Barton actually was in the bigger picture.

I have been saying this for years and literally just talked to my brother about this, Ultron was demonized because people expected it and hyped it up to be something it isn’t which is not how you go into a movie. Too much anticipation, expectation, and investigation into what you think a movie is going to be before you watch will psychologically set you up to be disappointed which is what happened to a lot of people viewing Ultron. I have always thought this movie was discernibly better than Avengers but I could understand why people liked Avengers more even though I’m not one of those people. I digress this was another good video by Filmento.

    1. The freshness of the idea of bringing multiple superhero’s in one film - first mover advantage.

Could’ve been an accident, probably WAS intentional. I kind of liked Ronan, though. He could have been better performed, but I think the way the way he was written made him an excellent foil to Peter Quill. In Guardians 1, Quill is an overgrown manchild. He listens to the same playlist from when he was a kid, plays a badass ladies man and angles for a profit on a planet-burning macguffin. Ronan is kind of the same, but he’s more of an emo drama queen. From the moment he emerges from a pit of blood ranting about the death of his father and his father’s father, it’s clear that he’s not in touch with reality. He lives on a throne in what we now know from Captain Marvel is essentially his old bomber ship, taking orders from a space terrorist so he can burn a planet just because he’s been at war with it for so long he may not even know the original reason anymore. He’s not doing it to protect his world or any belief system, he’s looking for personal satisfaction. Quill was too, until he met the people who would become the Guardians and become the family he needed.

Please tell everyone how to be saved so they have the chance of being saved. Endless death will never be better than a perfect sinless life forever in Heaven. So you know, Watching porn is not a sin under certain circumstances like if your parents care that you watch it. For more on that go here biblicalgenderroles.com/how-does-watching-porn-and-masturbating-glorify-god/ If you are an adult don’t worry about dishonoring your parents. Don’t have any kind of sex outside of marriage though which includes watching strippers in person. Swearing is not a sin but again if any thing dishonors your parents then don’t do it unless you are an adult. Getting drunk is a sin but drinking is not. Smoking is not a sin but doing it often and getting addicted is. Love everyone including yourself and love God. Treat others the way you want to be treated. When you cause someone else to sin you are guilty as well. It’s up to you to see how far it goes till it’s your fault they sinned. Just remember it’s their choice to do something and don’t tempt them to do wrong. Joking is not wrong unless you are harming the other person in some way but if it’s not that bad for them, go ahead. Taking the Lord’s name in vain is a sin but it’s up to you to decide what is taking the Lords name in vain. Some people might not believe saying “Oh my God” and not using it in its correct way is a sin. Some people believe just saying omg is not a sin. If you want to know more about common sins and stuff so you can avoid sinning tell me and I’ll tell you more. God can basically do almost anything Tell others so they have a chance at being saved and live a perfect life forever. We live in a sinful world and we all sinned so we deserve it. Gathering this much characters was already a big thing, so they kept things safe I assume, comedic action that ends well. @fadedjem 3 года назад +10

@@johnathonhaney8291 This video has left me very keen on the idea of an Ultron return. His fundamental motivation is pretty awesome and not at all as others have said cliched. He doesn't hate humanity because he thinks himself superior, he doesn't fear humanity pulling the plug, he doesn't hate humans for creating or trying to enslave him. He has an obsession with evolution. That's cool. If you keep three lines as fundamental to Ultron going forward "How is humanity saved if it's not allowed to evolve", "The human race will have every opportunity to improve", and "They're doomed" - then you have a character with a very unique and thought provoking perspective on the world and the future. When we imagine a human race that survives into the space age and exists thousands or millions of years into the future, we imagine them as anatomically modern humans. The entire natural order is based around life changing to fill new niches, adapt to environmental changes, and those forms of life no longer appropriate to the environment - well, as Ultron puts it: "Ask Noah". Ultron can and should make us think about whether our determination to preserve our species and our world exactly as it is, is necessarily a virtue.
Ultron in AoU fits the tone of the film and of Whedon's work. He's melodramatic and comedic, he's driven by irrational emotion, insecurity and rage. His specific plan in this film - a meteor strike to force human evolution and encourage a move towards an organic/synthetic synthesis - need not be carried over, nor his temperament. Ultron was pretty well destroyed, but as software it's very believable that he could return and have an easily justified personality shift to match whatever tone is appropriate depending on the placement in the MCU, which hero(es) are facing him, and who is directing. If he moved on to a new, more evolved plan - perhaps a more subtle one, perhaps one which doesn't involve immediate eradication of large numbers of humans or the threat of human extinction, but simply tries to remove superpowered forces coddling the human race and holding it back from achieving its potential, they could really reinforce the evolution obsession as a unique and distinct motivation, and make him a more compelling villain who still feels consistent with his first incarnation. I'd written Ultron off as a character, but the more I think about it the more I'd like to see him come back.
Hell, does he even need to be physically incarnated? An effective Ultron return could spend easily half a film with the identity of the villain unknown, as he sets plans in motion from within a computer or the internet, much like Zola in Winter Soldier - hearing that god damn awesome voice for the first time could be a truly awesome moment, because I don't think anyone would deny that James Spader did a fantastic job whatever you think of the material he was given.

@@rars0n Obviously it's subjective, but Age of Ultron just didn't feel as cohesive to me. It felt like an X-Men movie, not bad, but just a decent movie about a group of heroes. The relationships among the characters felt vital and interesting and dynamic.

    • @rars0n
      @rars0n 4 года назад +28

@@UTU49 Yeah, I agree, Age of Ultron felt less cohesive and a bit more generic. I liked the character of Ultron but it was clear that he was serving a fairly basic antagonist role and would ultimately be defeated because Avengers. Whereas the Avengers movie did a good job of bringing the characters together and growing them into a team. That's what I really admire about Marvel, they don't just introduce characters and throw them into things, they develop them into individual personalities and then give those personalities opportunities to both clash and grow.
Again, don't get me wrong, I liked Age of Ultron quite a bit, a lot more than I would have expected after listening to some other people talk about it. I thought it was a really good movie. But it didn't surpass or even match Avengers.
People often complain about the generic Marvel villain and there's legitimate criticism to be made, but I think what gets overlooked too often is that what makes the movies work so well is not the villains themselves but the characters and how they change along the way. When you can make that element of the story work effectively, you don't really need a super interesting villain, even if we all do really want one. While I believe this was said about the Ultron character in reviews as a negative, that he was another generic Marvel villain, I both agree and disagree. The voice acting was well done, James Spader did a convincing job, and the character was written funny enough to be legitimately entertaining. I really liked the personality of the Ultron character, that's something we don't often get in an antagonist. If only he had a bit more depth to his character I think the movie would have been even more interesting.
Now compare Ultron's personality to Steppenwolf's personality. It's non-existent. So yeah, I like Avengers a lot better but I still like Age of Ultron despite it's flaws, and I think it's better than it gets credit for.

They were really Ultron's big power players, and Ultron himself was a pushover. I mean Captain America holds his own against Ultron. They needed to establish him as a badass, instead he comes off as more of a manipulator who gets stronger characters like SW and QS to do his work for him. I mean, why they gave him a never ending string of super weak bots is just stupid. He really needed to be using all of Ironman's suits against the team, something like the Hulkbuster that we already saw was a credible threat.

Their characters actions fit. They had budding chemistry, and the rest of the film expanded on that subplot. It felt sincere and organic. It was a hijinx that didn't feel like it pandered to a specific audience. It was just a thing that happened. Hulk apologized, and widow was more concerned on him hulking out because of the stressful situation.
      Justice League
Also came out of nowhere. However flash and WW had practically no interactions besides in group settings. Flash came off as a horny teen in prior dialogue, WW never came off as a girl next door. The awkward silence after it happened just made it weird. Flash looked like he was guilty like a horny teen, WW went silent like she was ashamed. It didn't fit their characters. Flash should have apologized quickly and concernly, while WW would disregard it because strong woman wouldn't be embarrased by accidents.
They difference is the resolution of the scene. Age of Ultron addressed it quickly like a minor thing, but it had much more depth later on. Justice League felt forced, unnecessary, and didn't resolve it. Justice League basicaly pandered to a cliche trope in a cliche way, while Age of Ultron pandered to it in a subversive way. That is why one was funny and the other was cringe as shit.

It benefited a lot from being the first movie to ever pull off such a crossover. When you were just watching "2 marvel movies" you saw that The Avengers was better.
Now after witnessing the entire production you go back and analyze the lighting, the character development, and the impact on the later Infinity War and then you rightly conclude Age of Ultron is better
The analogy is someone who compares a flat, yet finished sketch, to the midway point of the final portrait.
Just comparing the 2, the sketch leaves you more fulfilled. But once you see the final portrait you now look back and admire all the depth and texture that midway point added!

Ultron’s motivation was understandable, but he just ended up being an evil Iron Man with an unnecessarily witty personality and disposable robot army. It is implied that Thanos has tortured Loki and will torture him more if Loki doesn't bring him the tesseract. That's why Loki attacks Earth. Bruce Banner confirms that in Infinity War: "Thanos sent Loki. The attack on New York- that's him." Thanos had tortured Loki before so Loki knew what he's capable of. And in fear of being tortured even more, he does what Thanos wants from him and goes after the tesseract. He never wanted the Earth for himself. He doesn't care about Earth. If anything he wants Asgard, but from the first Thor movie we know that what he really wanted was his father's approval and to be equal with Thor.

Here's why the second film felt like such a letdown: Hype.
Everyone enjoyed the first movie so much that people were either:
Expecting this movie to flop. So confirmation bias had them hyperfocusing on the tiniest flaws.

Whenever someone says this, I feel like they forget that literally every Avengers movie was hyped as all get out and the only disappointed ones were Age of Ultron and Endgame. The first Avegers movie broke so many people's expectations and expectations were as high as they could possibly be.
Age of Ultron is an inbetween movie. There's a lot of focus on elements that don't partain to the movie itself, but rather set up upcoming events, specifically Civil War, Black Panther and Infinity War. These types of movies rarely ever work on their own. They need the before and after movies to feel like they belong. At the time of its release, Age of Ultron had no after movie, so it felt clunky.

Ultron was a mess. They misused and underdeveloped Ultron. He was a complete afterthought through the whole film and never felt like a great threat. He spent the whole film hiding and scrounging for metal. Which made the entire movie a hiding go seek adventure. While he was coming up with his ( ridiculous and obvious on how no one researched the mass or energy needed to cause mass extinction with an earth impact object.) end of the world plan. It would've been much more threatening if Ultron hacked all of Tony Stark suits and all of Shields Stark made hardware and use that against the Avengers while he carries out his work. But the movie's message was kind of all over the place. Ultron's hate for Tony is never really solidified, his reasoning for ending the world is ambiguous and they focus so much on the twins that Ultron becomes background noise. The first avengers they all learned they needed each other. Civil War actually focused on the dangers of their power. But this film was just a mad science experiment gone wrong then action scenes. They even had an opportunity to maybe show the thin line between hero and villain. Ultron was an amalgamation of three heroes. How all their goodwill and intelligence can just simply step over this thin red line and become exactly what they fight against. How whether good or bad you still believe what you're doing is good. Maybe paving the way a little bit for Thanos. Blurring the line a little bit more so you understand where Thanos is coming from. It was still better than Thor 2. lol

Even if that something else, set aside in altverse would make you happy without those prepackaged notions, will often lead to disappointment.

I honestly think it could have been one of the strongest pairings of the early Avengers if it had been given the proper exploration, and if a decent amount of time had been dedicated to it. Because there was no real build up, people write it off as ridiculous, and stupid and refuse to look into why the characters might have connected with each other. It's part of why Age of Ultron is my favourite Avengers movie. Bruce Banner has never been better, despite the handful of cut scenes that would have given his character some more, much needed depth, and I love the relationship he built with Natasha.

I think this review is a little harsh on the Avengers. The Avengers was the first movie in this franchise and had to use characters that were barely developed. Thor's first movie was ok, Captain America's was ok, people didn't even know at the time that this was the same Edward Norton Hulk, black widow was a supporting character and Hawkeye was barely even in the universe. Since it was the first of it's kind the studio wouldn't know the success it would be so opted to play it safe. So the movie had mostly underdeveloped characters with no time to develop it and a limited budget compared to Age of Ultron where there was huge hype for and the characters were much better developed and loved. Age of Ultron had a lot more room overall to start with.
In terms of Loki being a bad villain I also disagree. Tom was excellent and his motivations were simple but well presented. He wants to rule and he showed that multiple times. They had to develop a good villain and although it wasn't perfect I think it was still pretty good.
I will agree a bit on the lighting that it could be better ranged in the heli carrier but like I said before I think they were forced to play it safe with a limited budget.
I do enjoy Ultron more but by no means do I think the Avengers failed.

I agree that Loki wasn't given that much care but the focus of the story was more about the teaming up of superheroes and how to establish them as a real team so there was no space to develop Loki. Unlike Age of Ultron that was already established so they didn't need to take time to create the Avengers. Infinity War is a great example cause the main character was Thanos but that only worked cause all the other characters and teams had their development. Its either they keep the villain simple and develop the main characters and the team or make the villain complex and keep the main characters simple, they didn't have time to do both.

If a war vet said Spiderman would've probably been a villain cause people with power often become corrupt would you hold his opinion over Stan Lee's when he made Peter Parker. "Eliminating humanity because they're an inferior and destructive race" is exactly the first thing that comes to mind when writing an evil robot. He made many interesting philosophical points throughout the movie, but when he revealed that it all summed up to this it was disappointing.
Also, he became a joke in the third act. I get that the movie is supposed to be humorous instead of dark, but when you're trying to build an antagonist that must be taken seriously as a major threat, *maybe* don't make him take so many easy blows from half the Avengers in their final battle just for the sake of making jokes.

Gonna be honest with you: I never understood what exactly made Loki so good in The Avengers. As Filmento already said, it certainly wasn't his motivation by itself, since it was generic (unlike in Thor). Imo it's his charisma and overblown ego that made him so much cooler to watch than any MCU villain up to that point.
When Banner says that his mind is a bag of cats we can actually see it, because Loki did feel unpredictable in the movie but still with logic behind his plans. Not always the best logic (pissing off every single one of the Avengers...), but logic nonetheless.
And so the puny god scene doesn't feel like a betrayal of the character, but an accurate portrayal of Loki's megalomania taking the best of him and making him land flat on his face. Even Hulk was right: he indeed had been a puny god for the whole film, and not even the humorous tone of the scene feels like a betrayal because Loki was never set up as a serious villain to begin with. A major threat, yes, but also a swashbuckler that mixed well with humor not only in this scene, but throughout the whole movie.
Ultron was set up as being a philosophical, sarcastic and tortured character. Did he make jokes along the way? Yes, a few of them, due to being derived from Stark. But that's still not nearly enough to become the butt of so many jokes in the third act, when he should have felt more serious and intimidating than ever. Hell, did you notice that the only major thing he accomplished in that battle (killing Quicksilver) wasn't even done by himself, but an Avengers quinjet he stole? After an entire movie of building an army (and himself) up, he couldn't even do something with his bare hands without Scarlet Witch being distracted or something.

“It's the unspoken truth of humanity, that you crave subjugation. The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life's joy in a mad scramble for power, for identity. You were made to be ruled”
That is one of the most beautiful lines, although extremely evil. What he saying is that he is “burdened with the glorious purpose”. He has no intention of being their ruler, but he is doing humans a favor. It’s a much more we’ll flushed out villain than just being evil for the sake of being evil. Also, Tom H. performance is just amazing.

The reason people like Ultron better in the comic is:
      1. He's a lot more menacing and threatening for the team.
      2. They dont have to solve Ultron n one movie, so the relationship between the team and the villain goes over tons of comics and is built up well.
      3. There's a much stronger relationship between Ultron and his creator, who was Hank Pym, and they do a lot of emphasis on how Ultron is actually exactly what Hank wanted, he just never realized how dark his desires were. They also have a great relationship between Hank and Ultron, as since Hank was Ultron's father, so Ultron often felt super abandoned and Hank didn't love him at all. Hank once used that to trick Ultron lying about loving him temporairily defeating him, until he comes back enraged, knowing that Hank hates his son.

@@themadclown4077 Thing about Ultron was my favorite part of him was always the twisted relationship between him and Hank. Ultron is more than just a dark reflection of Hank, he's also sometimes exactly what Hank wants to be. Ultron hates his creator, but still considers Hank his father, and the twisted times where Hank treats Ultron as a son and Ultron couldn't care less are great. Hank is a much darker character and he has parts of him that he's not proud of. The manifestation of that is Ultron. Not the overcampy goofball we see. Ultron's humor is supposed to be sick, but harshly true, not just funny and cringy.

Got to take source material into consideration when breaking down these films overall in my opinion. I say this about anything. If the movie was about a historical figure or mythology I'd say the same. Especially if you're breaking down the story.
Most people I feel are now more knowledgeable about the comics and not just fans of the comics if that makes sense. Like yeah a lot of MCU fans habe read the comics but more haven't. But I'd argue more people now are more knowledgeable about the comic lore without having read them. Ultron is one of the most formidable and dangerous threats the avengers ever face. In this film he is comical. His film is also named age of ultron yet he is drafted in about a weekend.
Lastly these films have to take their source material into consideration to appeal to both fans and new comers. So making it in the traditional way movies are made wouldn't work. Loki in comics is ambiguous in what he does. His plans shouldn't be known and take issues to reveal, just like they did in the films. Thats why I say with films that take their inspiration from source material you have to also break them down while also acknowledging the comics. Otherwise your not doing it in full and in my opinion handicapped.

Please read at least the whole first part up to the link and maybe the sentences before the second link. The second link is about why watching porn and masturbating isn’t bad but you don’t have to go there if you don’t want too. (The watching porn and masturbating thing will probably be better news for men because of the way their brain works.) Just try reading it all please.
Jesus can save you from an endless death and take you to Heaven. SCIENCE and history supports Christianity and I can give you some links on that. ENJOY life and do what you like, but do what is right and not for your own glory or for attention. Doing this will not save you, but once you are saved, doing so guarantees that you are saved. This is how to be saved -> AllAboutGOD.com › how-to-be-sav...Web resultsHow To Be Saved - God.. Jesus loves you even though we can and most likely did horrible things. It is hope. Do what’s right even if it means you can’t enjoy yourself. Doing what’s right is more important. Have a good life. Don’t have sex outside of marriage though.

@@kingdangoz1771 So you'd say the Age of Ultron final battle is better? I'd say I favor the one in The Avengers, but perhaps that's largely nostalgia. I'm curious, what's your case for AoU's finale?

    • @kingdangoz1771
      @kingdangoz1771 4 года назад

I think Avengers was more set pieces clashing at once, and AoU was one giant set piece imploding that imo had more emotion behind it. That’s mainly what sealed it for me.

Adding to the point at 5:45, the discussion started out cold as in from a cold problem to a warmer tone, or a solution to a problem. Problem being Bruce Banner or Hulk always being needed for fights or wars or conflicts to a solution which is what potentially Ultron could have been. Or on a more zoomed out perspective, Avenger's required in every conflict to having a 'suit of armor' around the world, so to speak. Please comment if anyone sees it differently, or if I missed to look much deeper into the scene. :)
