- Did you hear the tornado sirens Thursday night? Many folks in the areas hit said they did, but some said they didn't. That's because some small towns in rural Wisconsin actually don't have sirens.
"The last tornado warning, none of the whistles went off," a deputy called into Jefferson County 911 dispatch.
Calls like that one came in across 911 dispatches in far western parts of our area Thursday. Deputies in Jefferson County said they didn't hear tornado sirens in some parts of the county.
TMJ4 News went to find out why.

$400,000?! I’d like to think that’s a miscalculation, but it honestly sounds dishonest. More like $12-$20,000 with maybe up to $10,000 for base station install, setup, and programming (if necessary). It’s expensive, but not that expensive!
We shouldn't be relying on sirens but more on weather radios siren mentality gets people killed
Its around that for purchasing and installing, but I think they are talking about maintainence.
@@borkluchtalarm it costs way more to fuel an ambulance over the course of a year than it does to run a siren. Typically from $200 for AC only mechanical up to $2,400 year for high watt electronic. $200/yr over the course of 30 years is still only $6000.
@@joshmo1744 Oh wow.
Sirens ar a problem when people depend on them get a weather radio
That fire chief is lying about the cost
They are talking abouyt maintainence I think.
@@borkluchtalarm no way. Probably wouldn't be any cost for the first five years. After that would be some deep cycle marine batteries. Either he's lying or doesn't know what he's talking about
