Scrapping A HOARDERS HOUSE! - Scrap Metal Recycling 34

- Special episode today! We made a friend who agreed to have us clean up all the scrap metal in a hoarder's house! There was so much there, it was difficult to know where to start. After filling the truck again and again though, we made a lot of space and a decent amount of money too!
Wire stripper I use: amzn.to/3jrO2iS
The motorized stripper: amzn.to/3y0JMuQ
The wire cutters I like: amzn.to/2T6j3OW
This is the cheaper version: amzn.to/2SwrYsB
And here are those grips I recommend: amzn.to/2QCJmYl

I like it when you say you made a new friend. Sometimes though, you might not be their friend. Old Bean got 2x free days of labor he didn't have to hire someone for, all the cheddar from the scrap, almost $800 big boys if I remember correctly and didn't even help with gas, and of I had to guess he was being paid for that job already. I love the videos, but remember your time and effort are valuable as well for more than just content.
Please don't stop doing the thing.
You pretty much nailed it, but the scrap money went to the homeowner and a percentage to the estate sale fella. The rims will cover my cost, but yes I pretty near did work for free. It’ll take some time before I have the information I traded my time for 👍
@@thubprint I can't lie, I got a lil smile that Thub replied to my comment.
I'm a lucky man everyday though. I do Junk Removal and get paid to clear out Junk. Whenever I help someone out, either doing a job at a discount or even break even/ a loss I actually think Panda. Scrap is just a side hustle now. Your videos have actually taught me more than a few days to do things differently.
I think Sweet Johnny nailed it, i like to see you hustling, less so getting hustled. Still enjoyed the vid and keep it up!
Exactly I once had a friend enlist me, another mutual friend and my truck to help a friend of His move, was a last min deal and he needed to be out asap. Told me his friend would give me gas money and pay US some(I wasn't expecting much). Did a few late night loads and the guy told me I could have anything that he left on the property as payment, it was all junk! And I was scrapping at the time, so nothing of value. Asked for something of value that we moved for payment and dude wouldn't give me jack, no gas nada.
@@BOOT so sorry this happened to you. It makes it hard for people like me who needs someone like yourself to help move something. I would ask for 1/2 down before you start & the rest when your done.. no deposit, no help. cheers from Ontario.
Great!!!
Thub, I think your big heart gets the better of you sometimes. This one was hard to watch as your gas, time & wear & tear on your truck are worth being compensated. Not even lunch ... just wow!! love your videos!! cheers from Ontario!!
My Front Door Neighbor whom was more of an Uncle my whole life before he died when I was ~33, I turn 36 next Fri and I'm living in the front house now (He left it to me and my Wife) He was a Mechanic for the CHP at the Weigh Station for 30+ years. The man was a MASTER with metal and could build anything. I'm STILL clearing out car parts and tools and scrap metal... during 2020 I got by from ALOT of the scrap in my side yard still and was able to survive.
Dang.. I bet that yard was a heck of a scene! I’ll probably leave a pretty big pile of scrap to somebody when I eventually kick off too 😅
I feel you’ve been diddled! You deserved much more, but I enjoyed the video. You are a good man.
Thank you! I agree it wasn’t profitable on its face but I’ll get what I wanted out of it
@@thubprint I was shocked too, you didall the backbreaking work, your truck wear & tear , your gas & your time. I echo the statement above. I really hope you got what you wanted. Cheers from Ontario.
Looks like u hitz the lottery.. and it's nice that u help out .. keep doing the thing man!
It was a great couple days for sure! I didn’t keep any of the money, those rims and a cool video are all I needed ☺️
At least for the first one! 👌
That's awesome man. Sometimes it's the little things that make it great
SHELVING. Finally, my area of expertise. Shelves are, on average, 15lbs each for a 4footer. Plus that 4ft piece of extruded aluminum stuck on the front is super easy to remove with a big screwdriver. Couple extra pennies per shelf 😉
Also, I just learned something new recently that I want to share since you had batteries. If there's a battery manufacturer anywhere near you, there's a good chance they'll buy old batteries. I got almost double from them than I would if I took them to a scrap yard. Definitely worth digging into.
I’d asked a battery place before but their offer was a lot worse than my scrapyard. Might be worth checking all the ones I can find though, never know!
That's definitely an awesome thing to do for someone.
Thank you...
It really does make for interesting content. Seeing what others are getting rid of, and you "properly disposing" of that content, instead of letting it sit in a landfill, will definitely get my view.
Wholesome entertainment.
It was great fun too! I’ll have a better idea of how much I should get for payment next time, but I think it was still a win for everybody
Mother panda of gold mines!!!
Loved watching this. Estate sales, hoarder houses...love seeing what comes out of them. Old treasures🤔
That’s why I wanted to do it!
Wow I feel like you were taken advantage of, I was a business woman for many years. I'm retired now! Considering the circumstances ,you did an honorable thing. And I think you will think twice before you get in to something like that again
You are valuable ,to us out here, and it is OK to ask for a decent pay for a job well done...with discussion first. It is alright for you to make money On UTube or whatever 🙋🦋👍🤗🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I’ll definitely ask for a cut if I take on a job like this again! 😂 my interest was in learning a few things about this platform, and I’ll get what I wanted 👌
Thub, you deserve to earn more than that. Don't let please use you, I know your not silly but you have a good heart and people see this.
Great job. To bad they didnt want to get rid of it all. Reminds me of my house when i bought it.
There was a lot going on in that yard/property, excellent video, don't beat yourself up too much about losing a bit of money here or there...not the end of the world:)
Oh I’m not concerned, I wasn’t doing it for the money
Here, here! As a one man army this was your bliss. May you enjoy future blisses!
Some fun editing there with the music + time lapses, very soothing to watch - keep doing the thing!
THANK YOU! It was an experiment and I actually thought it turned out really cool, but nobody seemed to notice it and it was making me sad 😭
Im glad you liked it 💙
@@thubprint Hell yeah its cool! It provides a nice ebb and flow to the overall flow of the vid - gonna use that trick myself on my channel😜 - here’s to your next adventure🍻
All the best to you :)
And you can get extra leaf springs from autozone for 20 that will give the truck a extra 1500 lbs load capacity and there easy to put on
thanks man
We need to get you to 100k subs. You deserve it and have been grinding on this channel for years
THANK YOU!! 😆 I admit I was hoping the four-leaf clover and horseshoe method would do it for me but I’m obviously gonna be one of those hard work/dedication cases. Suits me fine! Got lots of vids on the way 💙
@@thubprint it's always better that way. Before you know it I feel your channel is just going to get huge. I watch all the videos. Keep up the great work.
I love the catchy music while your loading. Keep doing the thing.
I'm one of the first to see the video finally😂 love the videos bro watching from Texas
Well hello from calgary!
Love the videos. And I know your trying to get your services out. Anytime stuff like this comes along it should be 50/50. I understand its there stuff. But its your labor/time, your fuel, your wear and tear on the truck. I know your a very generous person. Not many people around like yourself. This person shouldve tipped you at the very least.
Thank you 🙂 and it worked out in the end! Not on this job, but it did lead to two more jobs which were significantly more in my favour 👍
Overall you didn't get raked over the coals at least. Good for content and discovering cool stuff. It's a good sign of your character that you can take that sort of thing in stride. But always remember that ultimately you can sit on your couch in the cool air playing video games to *not* make money; no need to go outside in the heat for the same outcome lol.
😆👍 excellent way of putting it!
Idk apparently there are e sports that have their own scholarships even now‐ bpnot even capping thats fr ykwis
Enjoyed the video. You’re a good person for doing everything you did for that person. Still think you should have been compensated a lot better, that’s a lot of work for one person. Again enjoyed the video very much. Keep up the awesome work 👍🏼 👍🏼 👍🏼 👍🏼
Will do, and thank you!
Great job friend
Dang, Thub! I am absolutely gobsmacked. My mother was a hoarder, and I was in charge of the whole thing. No one who hasn't done it has no clue what it takes to get it to the point we see here. I'm sure they are so relieved to have you for the metal. What a score! Great episode. Think I'll watch it again.
Always glad to see ya! It sure was a lot of stuff. I’ve seen the tv shows so clearly it can get a lot worse. Every time I watch one of those episodes I wish I could be the truck that hauls away all the metal 😁
I hope your mum wasn’t on the extreme end!
Extraordinary Find
And this is who you are! I like it! :+D
😊ty!
I left it better than I found it with a like and a comment 😉👍
P.s. I enjoyed the video as well, it's always interesting to see what others find value in enough to horde/collect them.
You sure did! 💙 And 100%, that’s why I wanted to do this so badly!
@@thubprint was a great idea and I hope you do more.
Bro I loved the video so pissed that's all they gave u for your efforts
At least your good vibes will turn full circle soon
Thanks for making videos that are better than normal tv programs u have my Aussie support brother
Thanks friend! I know I sold myself short on this one and I won’t do it the same way again. I was mainly motivated to do whatever it took to get myself involved, so in that regard it was a perfect success 👍
@@thubprint yes mate some times it's those jobs that get u in what's next in ya videos can't wait
Yeah, you got screwed. Live and learn.
If there's a next time. Make a detailed list. Estimate size/weight. Use that to estimate time/trips/gas. And last, estimate how much money is likely to be made. Then decide how much of that your going to need for your labor/gas. Once you have that info then go into discussions with the client.
I enjoyed that video
Thanks!
Awesome video. I loved the loading up scene of the car with the time laps and music. I also love the fact that you do not play music through out your videos only in certain parts. Like always great job man, keep it up.
I appreciate that! I was playing around with the camera a bit there, I think I’ll try that choppy time lapse thing again sometime cuz I thought it looked pretty cool 😎
I love using music when appropriate but I totally understand how it can be annoying when used all the time. Learned that lesson awhile back 😂
Great video, I do a lot of work with realtors/ estate guys, foster that relationship, it will pay out going forward. Love to see the video of you taking those rims in.
I’m hoping so!
I have the same ranger as you we have to work harder because of the load amount the truck can handle it I scrap for living too a word of advice look for a old junk pop up trailer someone wants hauled off for free like Craigslist then demo it and make a good trailer to us and and if you do it right you will actually make money from it from the scrap off of it and you have a trailer win win
It was another banger, all about the adventure
Exactly!
Good video. It's cool of you to help the guy out like that.
It was helping out, but I also get to learn if this is a new kind of video for me. We both win!
8:45 and ima bout to put my leg-warmers on, some neon clothes, and start my aerobics. :D
Fast time on your channel, learned a lot and very enjoyable to watch! You are good at what you do, thumbs up and subscribed! Keep it up!
Well thanks so much, and thank you for saying hi! I’m just doing my best out here, so I really appreciate your kind words 😊
Leaving a comment for you doing all that work for basically free.
Great video man!!! Adventures are fun but money is better hehe but got a bunch of rims!!
Yeaaaa lol, I’ll be sure to get paid more on the next one! 😄
Hope you grabbed the standing aluminum cause it's not shelves but the white ones were
OMG retro computing heaven!
I wonder if I’ll ever regret not grabbing that Tandy 😅
Hey Bud
Your spirit is impecable, you never stop and your an inspiring to me!
Keep doing what you do.
Jack
Thanks so much Jack! I’m really happy to be able to do what I do ☺️
Awesome!
I used to pick scrap when I was a kid and I haven't forgot the rush, best highlight of that time was finding a huge piece of lady copper but it was to heavy to even lift of the ground haha, my brother lives in Vancouver and I'm hoping to move soon, I'd love to give you a hand if all works well.
Thanks for the content its really great fun and awakens the sacppy in me haha.
Thanks Jack
Such an awesome scrap score. I might have missed it but did you pay for this scrap or was it free? If I may ask.
All the money from the scrap went to the homeowner with a little going to the estate guy. Thub got a bunch of tires with aluminum rims for his payment, that's it.
@@joesmith-es1zy that's cool. I'd like to do something like this in my area.
I think what you did was good. You helped in alot of ways and you taught at the same time. How ever you should have gotten a bit more because of the work and fuel. But it all works in the end.
I think it’ll work itself out 😊
God's plan always does.....you did good....
Absolutely amazing job done, loved the video,
It was a decent piece of content I think!
Wish that I could of seen this video sooner. I think it's about time to invest in a dump trailer, don't you think? A great score! Old electrics speakers and a CRT monitor...
If I want to do many more of these a dum
That's was nice to watch I enjoy it my friend
I’m glad! I had fun doing it, even if it wasn’t well paid
Awesome Video!! I always enjoy your content.
Thank you so much, it means a lot to have you here ☺️
I dig it.
Thanks!
4:15 I pulled about that many metal shelves out of a dumpster that was an old grocery store clean out. It took a few loads, but I’d check every week and get a truckload before they buried it with drywall and rubbish. Plus a bunch of other stainless from old freezers and other scrap. And no it wasn’t a metal dumpster either.
I love those ones! They do a full remodel and just throw away a couple hundred bucks worth of steel 🤙
What? You worked for two days just for the rims? They should pay you for the scrap cleanup or let you keep all the scrap.
I won't do it anymore. Scrap metal just doesn't pay enough to give someone else half. After you add in the cost of insurance, wear and tear on your vehicle and gas it's just not worth it. A lot of people out there think their stuff is worth millions of dollars and it's just not. A lot of people just want you to fix their problems. I've been in the business for a while and have hauled over 3 tons this month. You have to be smart about it though.
You know Thub, every piece and item was brought here. It is amazing how things accumulate over the years. I think that man cheated you. You worked your butt off for some tires and rims. Excellent video! He should have offered you anything in that house.
At the end of it all he actually did offer me anything I’d like, but I truthfully didn’t want any of it. The only thing I really want is a channel that pays me enough for a good life making the world a better place while spending quality time with my loved ones 💙
Good job Thub! Always enjoy the scrap runs.
Thank you! This one was pretty fun and I’m glad I got to do it 😊
Random thought for ppl with pickups. I ended up making a wooden bed extension for my truck and it fits in the gap between the tailgate and the bed plus I’ll tie it down with cords. Gives me another 2 1/2 feet with my bed. Comes in handy for me thought other scrappers may like the idea.
That sounds really cool! I find I hit my weight limit pretty easily with the 6’ as it is, but if I upgrade the truck it could be worthwhile 👍
Thumbs UP
Your a cool dude, Thub.
With school coming up I'm gonna start doing this to make a little bit of money
The scrapping? Do it!
@@thubprint yeah
I like the video lot stuff hope u have more these
Thanks! I’m looking forward to doing another one if I get the chance 🤙
I think you did a hell of a job bro hell I'm new to this scrap game I've already got 300 lb of copper
Scrap and retro goodness !!!
My favourite! ☺️
I did a hoarder house once. The owner had passed and the kids just wanted it all gone. Hoarding is such a challenging psychological condition.
It clearly is! I imagine it’s a bit like the comforting feeling of a familiar object with happy memories tied to it becoming an addiction and clinging to the little bits of nostalgia from each of them all together in a big pile.
@@thubprint I've watched some documentaries on it. As scrappers we are always around it and on the verge...if we're not careful.
that was crazy he was probably laughing all the way to the bank
Yeah, I think they both did well overall 😆
That’s quite a haul! I am getting antsy, because I see these vids and there was an article in a NY paper about a mom making $1000 a week dumpster-diving, and I can’t do this! I am waiting on a doctor to look at my shoulder, see what the damage is, but I have found I really moss going out and collecting all this stuff that would otherwise end up in a dump somewhere. Thanks for the great video, Thub! Keep doing the thing, I am living vicariously through you now.
*miss, not moss.
I knew what you meant 🤣
I hope you get back to nearly full strength soon buddy! Could take some time but I don’t think you’re out for good 👍 might not be deadlifting any cast iron engine blocks for a good while but maybe this just pushes you to get a trailer with a winch, then you won’t have to strain?
@@thubprint Funny you say this - I drove by a pile of stuff out by the side of the road here so I had to stop & take a look. It was what turned out to be 85 pounds of stainless steel and over 100 pounds of prepared steel in the form of pipe. $37 US for the stainless alone, another $11 for the prepared, but my left arm is sore now! 🤣 The funny thing is... I *like* doing this. If only it was more regular (my area is dropping off some the past two months) and I wouldn't hurt my old self so much! I envy your youth (I am 50).
Looks like a fun couple of days. Yes you got a truck of wheels you still have to process and a great video that will hopefully get you some more subscribers (hey, if you are not subscribed, please do so!) but you brought a lot to the table. You know how to prepare and sort the scrap and where to bring it to get good value. Without someone like you, he would have had to hire a dumpster to haul that away and would have lost money instead of making money. Next time I would ask for a cut. Great video!
I think I will, the rims just pay for my costs. I was mostly excited to dig through all that junk 😆
Sometimes you just have to leave it better than you found it bro!
You know it! Felt like a good couple of days to me 👌
What a f***ing JACKPOT!!! CONGRATS!!!
Nice haul! I’d really be tempted to rent a trailer at Home Depot or something to make less trips cuz I have a shorter truck bed.
Yea, I think I’m getting to the point where if I had a trailer I would use it a couple times a year
Looks like a lot of fun!
I had a great time ☺️
Can you do this all by yourself? This one is a massive job. I will keep watching until the end.
I like your scrap things ;)
New subscriberrr just saw some E scraps lot of things that's so expensive & useful👍
I certainly could have pulled a LOT of ewaste from this heap! I don’t have a good place to sell boards to in my area so I focused on the stuff that would pay well without too much time invested
@@thubprint if I be there I can buy some computer stuffs (CPUs smps and some old laptop batteries) and I can modify them everything comes under DIY Haha... ;)
Anyway keep up the awesome vlogs Bro... 👍
You got it! Maybe I could learn some cool things to do with batteries from you 😉
@@thubprint 😁👍
Great video
Load more in the truck make a fuller load side rails are made for a reason
Your time is worth money you just got taken for a lot of money
Remember they need to pay you for your time and fuel.
Either that or split the scrap money because by the time you pay local trash yard to dispose of all those tires your going to be out some cash.
Either that or paint those things and make some art displays and sale them.
We get free tire dropoff at the city dump for tires so that’s not a concern, but you’re absolutely right about the rest of it. Even with that I basically broke even with nothing for my time. The next ones I made sure to talk about money before doing the job!
Oh my! All those Tandy machines!
And the boxes and manuals!
Scrap Metal is so addictive especially at these high prices.
It can be a great side hustle for sure 👌 hopefully the prices being a bit nicer won’t bring in too much new competition lol
thub hope all is well quick question what camera are you using to record your vids?
Things are okay, thanks! Hope all is well with you! Most of my out-and-about filming is done with a gopro8, and the better looking stuff at home I use a Sony a6400
ok thanks so much man im been a fan for a long time keep up the good work!!@@thubprint
You should take those batteries as well with your scrap. Where I’m from if you bring them to an O’Reilly auto parts you get $10 in store credit for every battery. So there is $40 of scrap batteries in the beginning of your video. 👍
They definitely have value, but I just take them to the scrapyard and get cash rather than store credit
Decent score disguised as a jackpot galore 🤷🏻
And you left it better than you found it 😁
I’m just out here having a good time! Though you can hardly tell the difference between before and after lol
Awesome job, 👍 ty for sharing 👍😎👌
Ty for watching!
Good vid thub. I wouldn't mind seeing more like this, although I hope for better profits in the future
Appreciate it!
Gold mine wow
One man’s garbage is another man’s good un-garbage!
kinda diggn the 80s style sound track in the back ground during the time lapses
Thanks! I’m pretty deep on a synth vibe rn. Probably because of the dystopian future and all 😆
there is gold mine there for ebay sales!!!
Bro I can see you picking up scrap in New Orleans after a hurricane
Metalmania! Interesting job Thub! Stay cool!
Cheesy grin lol!
😆🤙💙
Love it bro awesome
😊
Scapping is a skill that you have learned to enable you to earn extra cash. I am at a loss as to the logic of you not being compensated for your time and resources. I believe most "friends" would have offered such compensation.
Agree
I guess I just wanted to see what was buried there 😄
Sometimes when you help others, there is no monetary gain, only spiritual.
Love your videos and content
Thanks!
I do deceased estates quite regularly and generally buy the lot! Goodies and scrap (and often have to deal with the rubbish too - depending on the job). I get some good content for my channel as well - but I do make sure I get good value for my time and all expenses covered! I feel you undervalue your time & efforts Thub. Just sayin'..
Really enjoyed the vid all the same 👍😊
Thanks for the input! It does seem like a great way to get a whole heap of goodies all at once, but after all that sweat and fuel I think I’ll ask for a bit more next time 😂
@@thubprint I think you should get 1/3rd. 3 parties in the deal 3 way split.
That would be a perfect place for me. I would take it all
You must have a way bigger garage than me! 🤣
I have followed for while now and appreciate the content and vibe of your work. I know that there are multiple aspects of what you did in this video that you need to sort out but from my side of the screen I liked the video and would like to see more (if you can work out a more equitable arrangement with the home owners and estate sale people it was a bit grating to see someone taking advantage of a "friend"). I also appreciate your quiet, toe curling rage of frustration regarding the copper. It's all good.
Thanks for considering the different angles! If I do another one like this I will have to ask for fair pay for my time and gas 👍
Nice work!
Ty!
I thought you got the $865.00??? Hmmm..you get the aluminum rims on tires...a lot of work there..
Great video hope this pays off for doing all this work!
Well we’re gonna find out! 😆
Well Thub I think you did an excellent job! Decent $$$. Kudos 👍👍👍
Never mind…I spoke too soon.
😂
Job well done Thub!
Thank you!
Great video like always!!!!
I had a great time!
Ok you answered my question in the video
